Thank you for purchasing a SALTON Stainless Steel Urn. Each unit has been
manufactured to ensure reliability and safety. Please ensure that you read the
instructions carefully and keep the manual safe for future reference.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
It is essential that you read this section first in order to operate the urn
safely:
•The hot water urns are constructed almost entirely of hygienic
stainless steel and should give many years of trouble-free service as
long as they are used in accordance with these instructions.
•Ensure that the voltage used corresponds to the voltage indicated on
the rating label on the underside of the unit.
•Avoid touching the metal parts of the urn as they become hot during
use
•Be mindful of hot steam coming from the lid vents
•Always position the urn on a clean, level, heat-resistant surface that
can withstand the weight of the urn - both empty and once it is filled
with water.
•Close supervision is necessary when using this appliance is used by or
in the vicinity of children.
•Always switch off and disconnect the urn from the mains supply
before cleaning or when not in use.
•NEVER attempt to move the urn when it is full of water, either hot or
cold.
•Do not allow the urn to be immersed in liquid for cleaning purposes.
•Do not attempt to disassemble the urn – there are no user serviceable
parts inside.
•ALWAYS disconnect from the mains supply and allow the water to
COOL COMPLETELY before attempting to clean or de-scale the urn.
•NEVER OVERFILL THE URN – only fill the urn up to the MAX line
•Do not allow cold water to sit in the urn for more than 2 days as it
could stagnate, which is very unhygienic. Empty the water out
completely and refill if the urn has been standing idle over the
weekend or for a period of time.
•This appliance is intended for household use only.
•If the urn fails to operate; ensure that there is sufficient water in the
urn and that the manual reset cut-out has been reset if necessary. If the
problem persists, seek advice from your nearest authorised service
centre.
•To protect against fire, electric shock and personal injury, do not
immerse the cord or plug in water or any other liquid.
•If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the
manufacturer, an approved service agent or similarly qualified person
to avoid a hazard.

•Do not place or operate the product on or near any hot surfaces such
as gas flames, electric elements or in a heated area, or let the cord
hang over the edge of the table or bench.
•This appliance is intended for indoor use only. Do not use outside or
under extremely cold conditions. Freezing up of the unit may pose a
safety hazard.
•Do not use abrasive cleaners on the outside or interior of the urn as
these may damage the surface.
DO NOT POSITION THE URN SO THAT THE TAP HANGS OVER
THE COUNTER EDGE. IT IS NOT DESIGNED TO BE USED THIS
WAY AND COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS SCALDS SHOULD THE TAP
BE SWITCHED ON BY MISTAKE
USING YOUR HOT WATER URN
•Before first use, rinse out the urn with warm water (without
detergent).
•Fill the urn with the desired amount of water taking care not to fill
past the MAX level indicator. Avoid under filling the urn as this will
cause the overheat protection system to operate and could reduce the
life of the element.
•When filling the unit, the minimum and maximum ambient
temperatures for the water ensure correct and safe operation of this
appliance are:

•Lock the lid in place by turning it clockwise.
•Connect the urn to a suitable 220-240V AC 13 Amp mains supply.
This will cause the green light to go on. Turn the thermostat to the
desired setting to achieve the temperature you require. When you turn
the thermostat knob the red indicator light will go on. Once the unit
reaches the selected temperature, the red indicator light will go off,
and the green indicator light will come on. Should you then select a
temperature between 1 and 9 on the thermostat knob, the unit will re-
boil periodically to reach the selected temperature, with the red light
going on each time the unit starts heating. Should you select a high or
10 on the thermostat knob, the unit will continue boiling, and the red
light will remain on permanently.

Important: The urn is not designed to constantly BOIL water. This would
simply fill the room with steam. It is designed to heat water and maintain it at a
temperature that is ideal for hot beverages such as tea or coffee.
TIP: When filling cups etc with hot water, hold them as close to the tap as
possible to avoid hot splashes.
SAFETY CUT-OUT
•The urns feature a boil dry protection system, which will switch off
the element if the water level is too low.
•To reset the safety cut out, switch off and unplug the urn and allow it
to cool. Empty out the water and press the RESET button underneath
the urn. Refill with cold water and switch the urn back on again. The
urn will automatically re-boil.
CLEANING & MAINTENANCE
ALWAYS LET THE URN AND WATER COOL BEFORE CLEANING
•The inside and outside of the urn can be cleaned with a moist cloth.
Do not use detergents, as this may discolour the urn.
•Dry the urn with kitchen towel or similar cloth after cleaning.

•Ensure that the electrical parts of the urn are completely dry before
plugging into an electrical outlet.
NEVER IMMERSE ANY PART OF THE URN IN WATER.
DESCALING
•Excessive lime-scale build-up can cause the element to overheat and
can even cause the tap to malfunction! Make regular checks of the
inside of the urn for signs of lime-scale.
•It is essential that lime-scale deposits be cleaned using proprietary de-
scaling tablets, powders or liquids (available from most
supermarkets). Those in hard water areas may need to de-scale the urn
every week. Those in soft water areas won’t need to de-scale the urn
quite as often.
Important: For a heavily scaled urn use approximately FOUR TIMES the
amount of de-scaling product required for a kettle. Repeat if necessary.
YOUR WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER MALFUNCTIONS CAUSED
BY EXCESSIVE LIMESCALE BUILD UP.
WIRING INSTRUCTIONS
The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following
code:
BLUE NEUTRAL
BROWN LIVE
GREEN/YELLOW EARTH
As the colours of the wire in the mains lead of this appliance may not
correspond with the colour markings identifying the terminals on your plug,
proceed as follows:
•The wire which is coloured BLUE must be connected to the terminal
which is marked with the letter N or coloured black.
•The wire which is coloured BROWN must be connected to the
terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red.
•The wire which is coloured GREEN/YELLOW must be connected to
the terminal which is marked with the letter E or (earth symbol) and is
coloured GREEN or GREEN/YELLOW

AFTER SALES SERVICE
This appliance is not user serviceable. If it is not working properly
check the following:
1. You’ve followed the instructions carefully.
2. The plug fuse hasn’t blown.
3. The main supply fuse/circuit breaker hasn’t blown/tripped.
If the appliance still doesn’t function, consult your retailer. If the
retailer is unable to resolve the problem, and you need to return the
unit to us, please proceed as follows:
Repack carefully
Enclose your contact details (name, address and daytime
telephone number).
Enclose an explanation of the problem you are experiencing with
your appliance.
If under guarantee, state where and when it was purchased, and
include your proof of purchase (e.g. till receipt).
Return to the retailer where purchased, who will send it in to our
Service Department for repairs.
An estimate for the inspection/repairs will be sent to you.

can make any further arrangements for payment and
delivery/collection.

BE PRODUCED.

Amalgamated Appliances (Pty) Limited (“the Supplier”) warrants to the original purchaser of this
product (“the Customer”) that this product will be free of defects in material and workmanship
which under normal, personal, family or household purpose manifest themselves within a period of
365 days from the date of purchase or in respect of commercial or professional purposes, manifest
themselves within a period of 90 days from the date of purchase. Any claim in terms of the
warranty must be supported by a proof of purchase. If such proof is not available, then
notwithstanding anything to the contrary herein, the Supplier’s normal charge for service and/or
spares will be payable by the Customer upon collection of the repaired product. If a claim is made
in terms of the aforesaid warranty within the first 7 days from the date of purchase, the faulty
product will be exchanged (provided that the product is in its original packaging with all
accessories). Failing return of the product within 7 days, the Supplier’s liability shall be limited on
return to the Supplier of the product or parts thereof, to the replacement or repair (in the sole
discretion of the Supplier, or its duly authorised service dealer) of the product to eliminate any
defect in workmanship or materials found to be due exclusively to any acts or omissions on the
parts of the Suppliers, of which defects the Supplier shall have been notified in writing by the
Customer within the aforesaid warranty period. The warranty provided herein and the obligations
of the Supplier as aforesaid are in lieu of, and the Customer waives, all other warranties,
guarantees, conditions or liabilities, express or implied, arising by law or otherwise, including
without limitation, any obligation of the Supplier in respect of any injury, loss or damage (direct,
indirect or consequential) arising out of the use of, or inability to use, this product and whether or
not occasioned by the Supplier’s negligence (gross or otherwise) or any act or omission on its part.
The warranty does not include and will not be construed to cover products damaged as a result of
disaster, misuse, abuse or any non-authorised modification of the product. The warranty does not
include replacement of light bulbs, heater bars, paper bags or any glass, plastic bowl or jug or other
expendables. During the warranty period the product should be taken to a service centre of the
Supplier or one of its duly authorised service agents. The Supplier neither assumes nor authorises
any other person to assume for it, any additional liability in connection with the sale or servicing of
its products.
