Get Started
The following topics give you all the information you need to set up your phone and Sprint service for the
first time.
Your Phone at a Glance
The following illustration outlines your phone’s primary features.
Set Up Your Phone
Before using your new phone, you must install and charge the battery.
Note: Your phone’s battery should have enough charge to turn the phone on and find a signal, complete
the setup wizard, set up voicemail, and make a call. You should fully charge the battery as soon as
possible.
Install the Battery
1. Using the slot provided, gently lift the cover off the phone.
2. Insert the battery, aligning the gold contacts on the battery with the gold contacts on the phone,
and gently press the battery into place.

3. Replace the back cover, making sure all the tabs are secure and there are no gaps around the
cover.
Important: Before closing the cover, check to see if there is any foreign substance such as dust or sand
between the rubber on the back of the cover and the sealing area.
Note: Water-resistant and dustproof based on IP67 rating, which tests submersion up to 1 meter for up to
30 minutes. Not shockproof. Covers must be tightly closed.
Maintaining Water and Dust Resistance
This device is rated IP67 using the Ingress Protection rating system. The dust rating is 6 (highest level of
protection) and the water resistance rating is 7 (water resistant up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes).
Despite this classification, your device is not impervious to water damage in any situation. It is important
that all compartments are closed tightly.
Follow these tips carefully to prevent damage to the device.
● Whenever your device gets wet, dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth.
● Do not expose the device to salt water or ionized water, or to water over 1 meter deep for more
than 30 minutes. If your device is exposed to salt water, wash the device with fresh water then
dry thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth. Otherwise, when it dries, salt may accumulate and block
the microphone, earpiece, and speaker.
● When drying off your device, be sure to pat the earpiece (top front of phone), microphone (bottom
of phone), and speaker (rear of phone) with a clean, soft cloth to remove as much water as
possible.
● When making a call immediately after your device is wet, the microphone may have water in it
which may lower the volume that the other person will hear. After drying off the device, allow the
device to air-dry before making a call.

● The back and USB/Accessory Port covers may be loosened slightly if the device is dropped or
receives an impact. Ensure that all the covers are properly aligned and tightly closed. Otherwise,
they may not provide protection from water and dust.
● Always keep the USB/Accessory Port cover clean and be careful to avoid damaging it.
Note: The touch screen may not be active in water.
Charge the Battery
1. On the bottom of the phone, gently lift the multipurpose jack cover to reveal the
USB Charger/Accessory Port.
2. Plug the USB cable into the USB Charger/Accessory Port on the bottom of the phone.
3. Plug the other end of the USB cable into the Charging Head, and then plug the Charging
Head into an electrical outlet to charge your battery. Fully charging a battery may take up to
three hours.
Note: Your phone supports USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, and includes a USB 3.0 cable for higher data transfer
speeds when connected to another USB 3.0 device. You can also use USB 2.0 cables (not included) to
charge and connect your phone.

Activation and Service
Follow the instructions below to activate your phone and Sprint Prepaid service.
Register Your Phone on Sprint Prepaid
1. From your computer, visit sprint.com/prepaidactivate.
2. Choose an activation option and click Next. Then enter your zip code and click Next.
3. When prompted, enter the serial number (MEID DEC) printed on the label on your phone's
packaging.
4. Follow the instructions to select a plan and payment method.
 If you're swapping phones or bringing your number over from a different carrier, follow the
prompts to sign in or provide additional information.
5. Continue to follow the instructions to program your phone. Once you see the “Congrats” page,
your phone and plan are activated.
 To confirm activation, make a phone call. If your phone is still not activated, visit
sprint.com/prepaidsupport for assistance. If you do not have access to the Internet, call Sprint
Customer Service at 1-855-639-4644 from another phone
Note: If you are having any difficulty with activation, visit sprint.com/prepaidsupport for assistance.
Activate Your Phone
After completing the account setup on sprint.com/prepaidactivate, simply turn your phone on. It is
designed to activate automatically.
■ Press and hold the Power/Lock key to turn your phone on.
 Your phone is designed to activate automatically. When you turn the phone on for the first
time, you should see a Hands Free Activation screen, which may be followed by a PRL
Update screen and a Firmware Update screen. Follow the onscreen instructions to continue.
If your phone is still not activated, visit sprint.com/prepaidsupport for assistance. If you do not have
access to the Internet, call Sprint Customer Service at 1-855-639-4644 from another phone.

Complete the Setup Screens
The setup screens help you set up certain features and preferences on your phone. Once your phone has
been turned on, you will see a Welcome message. You can then complete the setup process.
Note: You may be able to complete the setup screens before your phone has been activated on your
account.
Note: During or after setup, you may see a Connections Optimizer notice. Read the notice and tap I
Agree to allow your phone to connect automatically to the best available data network, including Wi-Fi.
To turn Connections Optimizer off at any time, from home, tap Apps > Settings > More settings
> Mobile networks > Connections optimizer and uncheck the box. See Connections Optimizer for
details.
1. From the Welcome screen, select a language (if prompted) and tap START to get started.
 To skip any section where permitted, tap NEXT.
Note: On the Welcome screen, there may also be an Accessibility button. If you are visually impaired or
hard of hearing, tap Accessibility to change the accessibility settings.

2. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete each section. For each topic, you will have the
option to skip it and continue to the next screen.
 Wi-Fi – If prompted, follow the prompts to sign in to an available Wi-Fi network. For secured
Wi-Fi networks, you will need to enter a password. See Wi-Fi for more details.
 End User License Agreement – Read this document carefully, and then tap I understand
and agree to the terms and conditions above. If you wish to send Samsung error data to
help improve your phone, tap Yes. Tap NEXT to continue.

 Tap & Go – Quickly copy Google accounts, backed up apps and data from an existing
Android device. Follow the instructions onscreen to transfer data from your existing Android
device, or tap SKIP to skip this step.
 Add your account (Google) – A Google account provides you with a single account that can
be used for Google services, including Gmail, Play Store, and Hangouts. You can enter an
existing Google account, create a new account, or skip this step. Each option is described
below:
• Enter an existing Google account: If you have an existing Google account, tap Enter
your email, enter the email address associated with your Google account (usually a
Gmail account), and then tap NEXT.
• Create a new Google account: If you do not have a Google account, tap OR CREATE A
NEW ACCOUNT. Follow the prompts to create an account user name and password.

• Skip entering or creating a Google account: If you skip entering or creating a Google
account, you are prompted to enter your name to personalize your phone. Enter your
name and tap NEXT.
 Google services – Select your Google services options and then tap NEXT.
 Samsung account – Sign in to or create a new Samsung account for access to various
Samsung apps and services such as GALAXY Apps.
Note: If you entered or created a Google account earlier, then you have the option to sign in using your
Google ID. If you skipped the Google account steps, then the Google ID option is not available on the
Samsung account screen.

 Dropbox – Sign in to or create a new Dropbox account for access to cloud storage. If you do
not want to set up Dropbox, tap SKIP.
3. Enter a name for your device (optional), and then tap FINISH. Your setup is now complete.
Follow the onscreen instructions to learn about basic tap menu navigation, view tutorials, or just
get started.
 Your phone is now set up for use. If you skipped any part of the setup, you can access
additional options through the Apps screen or through Settings.
Note: You do not need to sign up for a Google Account to use your phone. However, to download apps
from the Google Play Store app, you must link your phone to a Google Account.
