This chapter provides basic information about the QNAP device.
About the TS-1655
The TS-1655 is powered by an 8-core Intel® Atom® processor and up to 128 GB of DDR4 memory, delivering
high performance within a compact chassis. The NAS features enhanced connectivity through two 2.5
Gigabit Ethernet ports. Designed for scalability, the TS-1655 also has two M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD slots and three
PCIe Gen 3 x4 slots to accommodate expansion cards.

Hardware installation
This section provides information on installing drives, memory modules, expansion cards, fans, and
expansion units.
Removing the case cover
Warning
• Only qualied personnel should perform the following steps. Failure to follow
instructions can result in serious injury or death.
•
Moving fan blades: Keep your hands and other body parts away from moving fan
blades.
1. Power o the device.
2. Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet.
3. Disconnect all cables and external attachments.
4. Remove the case cover.
a. Remove the screws on the rear panel.
b. Slide the cover back.
c. Lift the cover o the device.

Attaching the case cover
Warning
•

1. Place the cover on the device.
2. Slide the cover forward.
3. Attach the screws on the rear panel.
4. Connect all cables and external attachments.
5. Connect the power cord to the electrical outlet.
6. Power on the device.
Drive installation
The NAS is compatible with 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch hard drives, 2.5-inch solid-state drives, and M.2 solid-state
drives.

Installing 3.5-inch hard drives on 3.5-inch trays
Warning
• Installing a drive deletes all data on the drive.
• Observe electrostatic discharge (ESD) procedures to avoid damage to components.
1. Power o the NAS.
2. Remove the drive tray.
a. Optional: Unlock the tray.
Note
The preinstalled drive trays come unlocked.
Important
Ensure the drive tray keys are stored in a safe place.
b. Pull the tray handle outward.
c. Pull the tray out.

3. Install a drive on the tray.
a. Remove the fastening panels from the sides of the drive tray.
b. Place the drive on the tray so that the holes on the sides of the drive are aligned with the holes on
the sides of the tray.
c. Attach the fastening panels to lock the drive to the tray.

d. Optional: Attach the screws to further secure the drive.
4. Load the tray into the bay.
