SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
WARNING:
Service should not be attempted by anyone unfamiliar with the necessary precautions for this recording or playback
equipment. The following precautions are necessary during servicing:
1. Many electrical and mechanical parts in this recorder have
special safety related characteristics for providing protec
tion against shock, fire and other hazards. These charac
teristics often go unnoticed in a visual inspection, and the
protection afforded by them cannot necessarily be ob
tained by using replacement components with higher rat
ings (voltage, wattage, etc.).
2. Replacement parts having special safety related charac
teristics are identified in this manual, and in the schematic
diagrams, by the symbol ! . These components have
values that are of special significance to product safety.
Should any component (identified by the symbol ) need
to be replaced, use only the part designated in the parts
List. Do not deviate from the specified resistance, wattage,
and voltage ratings.
3. Before returning the set to the customer, always perform an
AC leakage current check on the exposed metallic parts of
the cabinet, such as terminals, screwheads, metal over
lays, etc. to be sure that the set is safe to operate without the
danger of electrical shock, Plug the AC line cord directly into
a 120 V AC outlet. (Do not use a line isolation transformer
during this check.) Use an AC voltmeter with a sensitivity of
5000 ohms per volt (or more) as follows: Connect a 1500
ohms, 10 watt resistor, paralleled by a 0.15 mfd, 150 VAC
capacitor, between a known good earth ground (water pipe,
conduit, etc.) and the exposed metallic parts, one at a time.
Measure the AC voltage across the 1500 ohms resistor and
0.15 mfd capacitor combination. Reverse the AC plug at the
AC outlet and repeat the AC voltage measurements for
each exposed metallic part. The measured voltage must
not exceed 300 mVrms. This corresponds to 200 µA AC.
Any value exceeding this limit constitutes a potential shock
hazard and must be corrected immediately.

WARNING
Do not use solder ontaining lead.
This product has been manufactured using lead free
solder in order to help preserve the environment.
Because of this, be sure to use lead free solder when
carrying out repair work, and never use solder
containing lead.
Lead free solder has a melting point that is 30 40°C (86
104°F) higher than solder containing lead, and moreover it
does not contain lead which attaches easily to other metals.
As a result, it does not melt as easily as solder containing
lead, and soldering will be more difficult even if the
temperature of the soldering iron is increased.
The extra difficulty in soldering means that soldering time
will increase and damage to the components or the circuit
board may easily occur.
Because of this, you should use a soldering iron and
solder that satisfy the following conditions when carrying out
repair work.
Soldering iron
Use a soldering iron which is 70 W or equivalent, and
which lets you adjust the tip temperature up to 450°C
(842°F). It should also have as good temperature recovery
characteristics as possible.
Set the temperature to 350°C (662°F) or less for chip
components, to 380°C (716°F) for lead wires and similar,
and to 420°C (788°F) when installing and removing shield
plates.
The tip of the soldering iron should have a C cut shape or
a driver shape so that it can contact the circuit board as flat
or in a line as much as possible.
Solder
Use solder with the metal content and composition ratio by
weight given in the table below. Do not use solders which do
not meet these conditions.
Lead free solder is available for purchase as a service tool.
Use the following part number when ordering:
Part name: Lead free solder with resin (0.5 mm dia., 500 g)
Part number: VJ8 0270
Note:
If replacing existing solder containing lead with lead free
solder in the soldered parts of products that have been
manufactured up until now, remove all of the existing solder
at those parts before applying the lead free solder.
The first and second digits of the serial number
indicate the year and month of production.
For example, "95" indicates production was in
November 2005, and "96" indicates that production
was in December 2005.
However, these numbers start at "01" and are reset
after "96" is reached, so that January 2006 is indi
cated by a number that starts with "01".
Because of this, serial numbers for products manu
factured from January 2006 onward may be smaller
in value than serial numbers for products manufac
tured in December 2005.
Example :Production in Dec 2005: "96120001"
Production in Jan 2006: "01120001"
Production in Feb 2006: "02120001"
Products listed in the Service Manuals with serial
numbers of "96XXXXXX or later" include serial
numbers such as "96XXXXXX", "01XXXXXX" and
"02XXXXXX".
In addition, products listed with serial numbers of
"01XXXXXX or earlier" include serial numbers such
as "01XXXXXX", "96XXXXXX" and "95XXXXXX".

1. Do not subje t the unit to sho ks or vibration.
If the unit is subjected to shocks or vibration, it may
damage the HDD or cause corruption of the data stored in
the HDD.
• Do not move the unit while the power is turned on.
Always be sure to turn off the power before removing the
unit from or placing it onto the rack.
• When transporting the unit, pack it securely using the
specified packing materials. In addition, use a method of
transportation that minimizes vibration.
• When placing the unit down on a surface such as a floor,
attach the specified feet to the base of the unit and place
it down gently. If the feet are not attached, place the unit
down very carefully so that it does not make any noise.
2. Do not move the unit for 30 se onds after turning
off the power.
After the power is turned off, the disk inside the HDD will
continue to spin for a brief period due to inertia, and the
heads will be in an unstable state.
During this time, the unit is even more susceptible to
shocks and vibration than when power is being supplied.
Make sure that the unit is not subjected to even gentle
vibration for at least 30 seconds after turning off the
power.
3. Do not operate the unit when ondensation has
formed.
If the unit is operated when condensation has formed, it
may cause operating problems.
If sudden changes in the ambient temperature occur, wait
for the temperature to stabilize before operating the unit.
NOTES ON HANDLING INTERNAL HDD COMPONENTS
This unit has a built in hard disk drive (HDD).
Be sure to observe the following points carefully when operating, setting up and servicing the unit.
4. Notes when repla ing the HDD
Be sure to follow the correct replacement procedure when
replacing the HDD.
• HDDs that have been removed from their packaging may
not operate correctly if they are subjected to any shocks
or vibration. It is recommended that you place the HDD
onto a soft, level surface with the printed circuit board
facing upward after unpacking it.
• Be careful not to subject the HDD to shocks or vibration
when removing and tightening screws as part of the HDD
replacement procedure. Make sure that all screws are
tightened securely so that they will not become loose.
• The HDD is sensitive to static electricity, so you should
take proper precautions to prevent static electricity
buildup.
5. Handling the HDD unit by itself
If transporting or storing the HDD unit by itself, always be
sure to pack it in the specified packaging first.
In addition, use a method of transportation that minimizes
vibration.
If the HDD becomes damaged, handle the unit and the
damaged HDD that has been removed in order for it to be
replaced carefully to prevent the problem from being
aggravated until as the nature of the problem can be
checked and analyzed.

3. ADJUSTMENT
3-1. CH1 INPUT SIGNAL LEVEL ADJUSTMENT
1. Input a color bar signal containing 100% white to the CH1
input terminal.
2. Connect an oscilloscope to the TP131.
3. Use VR131 to adjust until the 100% white level from the
sync chip for the Y signal is 1.10 ± 0.04 Vp p.
3-2. OUTPUT SIGNAL LEVEL ADJUSTMENT
1. Input a color bar signal containing 100% white to the CH1
input terminal.
2. Select "CH1" and switch to full screen mode.
3. Connect a 75 Ω termination to the MONITOR OUT
connector and connect an oscilloscope.
4. Use VR105 to adjust until the 100% white level from the
sync chip for the Y signal is 1.00 ± 0.04 Vp p.

9. Press the CUE ([ ]) key to display the confirmation (YES/
NO input) screen, and then use the [ ] key or the [ ]
key to select "YES".
10. Press the CUE ([ ]) key.
• "WRITING NEW FIRMWARE!!", "DO NOT REMOVE
CARD!" AND "DO NOT POWER OFF!" will be
displayed on the screen. Overwriting of the sub
microprocessor will start and the front LED will flash.
• The update is completed once the device has re
started twice. (After the device powers down and
automatically restarts twice.)
Note:
When the unit restarts, the "SANYO" logo and the messages
"HARD DISK CHECKING!!" and "DO NOT POWER OFF" will
be displayed, and you must never turn the power off while
they are being displayed. If the power is turned off at this
time, the HDD may become damaged.
3-7. OVERWRITING THE FIRMWARE
1. Prepare the CompactFlash card containing the firmware to
be overwrite and a USB connection type CompactFlash
card reader.
2. Insert the CompactFlash card containing the firmware to
be overwrite into the card reader, and connect the card
reader to the unit's USB connector.
3. Turn on the power for the unit.
4. Press the MENU key to display the "MAIN MENU" screen.
5. Use the [ ] key or the [ ] key to move the cursor to "8.
POWER LOSS/USED TIME" and then press the CUE ([
]) key to display the "POWER LOSS/USED TIME" screen.
6. Press the [ ] key until the cursor is displayed.
7. Press the [ ] key to move the cursor to the line where
the version number appears, and then press the CUE
([ ]) key to display the "FIRMWARE UPDATE" screen.
8. Use the [ ] key or the [ ] key to move the cursor to
"MAIN & SUB COMPUTER".

3-8. MAC address
1. MAC address settings
Each device with LAN functions is controlled with one built in
48 bit address. Writing this address incorrectly may result in
a device ID error creating a malfunction when using as part
of a network.
For this reason, each unit is controlled by inputting a num
bered address.
2. Preparations prior to writing the MAC address
1.RS 232C servicing tools (VHJ 0116)
2.PC (with a Windows 2000, XP OS, FD drive and RS 232
terminal)
3.MAC address writing software (VJH 0165)
4.RS 232C cross cable (VHJ 0149 or any commercially
available item)
2 1. Installing the MAC address writing software Copy the
"MACW.EXE" file from the MAC address writing software
into the PC's optional directory.
2 2 .Verify and record the present MAC address prior to
servicing.
3.MAC address verifi ation and writing pro edures
1.Connect the RS 232C servicing tools (VHJ 0116) to the
CN309 socket located on the unit's CP 1 board.
2.Connect the PC's RS 232C (COM1) terminal to the RS
232C servicing tools using the RS 232C cross cable (VHJ
0149 or any commercially available item).
3.Turn the PC's power supply ON and a MAC address writing
software directory will appear.
4.Connect the unit to the monitor and turn the monitor's
power supply ON.
5.Turn the unit's power supply ON and press the RESET
button while pressing on the UP button. Lift your finger
from the RESET button but keep pressing the UP button.
6.Lift your finger from the UP button only after hearing the
buzzer.
The SANYO logo will appear on the monitor's screen and
the present MAC address will be displayed below the logo.
7.Click on "MACW.EXE" located in the PC's directory to
launch the software.
8.When replacing the repair board, input the "MAC Address
Code" attached to the repair board in "Mac Address".
For servicing other than board replacement, verify whether
the "MAC Address Code" is identical to the code verified
prior to servicing. If the entry space is blank or if the code
is wrong, input the "MAC Address Code" verified prior to
servicing.
9. Click on the "WRITE" button.
"Write Finish" will appear. Click on "OK" when the MAC
address prior to the change appears on the monitor.
10. Click on "EXIT" to end operation.
