Savant WCD-1 Series User manual

The Savant Wi-Fi Circa Switch (WCS-1XXXXX) and the Wi-Fi Circa Dimmer (WCD-1XXXXX)
quick reference guide provides the information necessary to install either Wi-Fi Circa keypad.
The Wi-Fi Circa switch contains one relay, and functions as a one-gang switch to turn on/off
relay-controlled devices, such as lights, fans, and fireplaces. The Wi-Fi Circa Dimmer functions
as a single gang forward phase dimmer. These keypads can be combined in gangs up to four in
a wall. Both keypad types must have a lighting controller: for example, an SSL-P018 or SSL-
P002 (wired) via a network router, to operate correctly. The SmartConnect Accessory and the
SmartConnect app enable the WCS-1XXXXX or WCD-1XXXXX to be configured with an iOS
user interface. The Savant plastic faceplate is included, by default the same color as the switch
or dimmer.

Installing a WCS-1XXXXX or WCD-1XXXXX
The Wi-Fi keypads are designed to be replacements for a toggle switch for regular household
lighting. The WCD-1XXXXX functions as a single dimmer. The WCS-1XXXXX is used to relay-
controlled devices such as lights, fans, and fireplaces. Both the WCD-1XXXXX and the
WCS-1XXXXX require a Savant Light control system. A minimum system could consist of a
single controller, WCC-2XXXXX or any Savant SSL controller and a single WCD-1XXXXX or
WCS-1XXXXX. A licensed electrician is required to install any Wi-Fi keypad.
ELECTRIC SHOCK: The 120 V AC, 60 Hz source power poses an electric
shock hazard that has the potential to cause serious injury to installers and
end-users.
IMPORTANT: A licensed electrician is required to install any Wi-Fi™ keypad.
Isolate and turn off the power from the main power supply to the switch or
keypad that is to be replaced.

Three-Way Replacement Installation
NOTE: This installation
requires network availability.
Electrician Installation Instructions
To ensure proper installation of your Wi-Fi keypads, a qualified electrician should do the
following.
1. Turn off the power from the main power supply to the switch/keypad that is to be
replaced.
2. Unscrew the wall plate and remove.
3. Remove existing toggle/rocker switch or analog dimmer.
4. Unscrew the sheathed, insulated wires (Romex) from the screw terminals.
5. Remove switch box.
6. Connect the in-wall Romex wires to the correct screw terminals on the Wi-Fi keypad and
tighten terminals.
7. Insert the Wi-Fi keypad into the backbox and secure with the screws provided.
8. Re-establish power from the main power supply.
Important! For back-boxes without neutral wires, they will have to be rewired to
contain both a hot and neutral wire to power the controller on the switch.
To replace three-way switches, determine which gang actually controls
the load. After that is determined, wire the neutral and hot wires from box
to box so that they are not switched. For switches that are not wired to a
load, leave their load connector bare.
Parts Identification and Installation
The next diagram shows the mounting sequence and parts for the WCD-1XXXXX or
WCS-1XXXXX keypads. Savant recommends a U.S. back box with an optimal depth of 3.5 in
(8.89 cm). A minimum depth of 2.5 in (6.35 cm) is acceptable.
Installation of Wi-Fi™ Keypads
The Wi-Fi keypads are designed to be replacements for a toggle switch for regular household lighting. The WCC-2XXXXX
keypad functions as two dimmers and a controller. The WCD-1XXXXX functions as a single dimmer. The WCS-1XXXXX is
used to relay-controlled devices such as lights, fans, and fireplaces. Both the WCD-1XXXXX and the WCS-1XXXXX require a
Savant Light control system. A minimum system could consist of a single controller, WCC-2XXXXX or any Savant SSL
controller and a single WCD-1XXXXX or WCS-1XXXXX. The WCC-2XXXXX could also be a standalone system. A licensed
electrician is required to install any Wi-Fi keypad.
ELECTRIC SHOCK: The 120-240V AC, 50/60 Hz source power poses an electric shock hazard that has the
potential to cause serious injury to installers and end-users.
IMPORTANT: A licensed electrician is required to install any Wi-Fi™ keypad. Isolate and turn off the power from
the main power supply to the switch/keypad that is to be replaced.
