1. Transport & handling
1.1 Transport
SCANTOOL TSM 650 is delivered on a pallet with the following measurements:
120 x 80 x 86 cm 85 kg
The shears are wrapped in protective film/wrapping and the measuring bars are
supplied non-fitted.
1.2 Handling
SCANTOOL TSM 650 can easily be transported on the pallet on which it is
delivered.
1.3 Placing
Placing of the SCANTOOL TSM 650 must take place on a firm and level surface
such as a work table or the concrete. The shears must be secured to the floor by
using the four fittings which were also used for tightening the shears to the pallet.
On the back of the shears the back stop is mounted as shown in fig. 1.1.
The back stop is mounted in the fittings. To adjust the back stops to the correct
position loosen the handles (A) and the pointed screw (B). The back stop is
pushed towards the lower knife and then the measuring bars are reset (C). The
pointed screws (B) can now be tightened. Finally the protection film is removed
from the protection plate (D).

2. Operating
2.1 Operating
The back stop (E) (see fig. 2.1) is adjusted on the back of the shears by loosening
the handles (F) so that the back stop (E) can be moved to the desired cutting
length. Now the plate to be processed (G) must be fitted against the angle hold
(H) which can be adjusted to the desired cutting angle. Finally the handle (I) is
pressed to the bottom. The back stop lowers to hold the plate during cutting. The
upper knife is pushed through the plate –now pull back the handle (I) so the knife
will rise simultaneously with the back stop lets go of the plate. The shears are now
ready for a new cutting operation.

2.2 Safety
When working with the Scantool TSM 650 plate shears existing safety rules must
be kept in order to avoid personal injury or material damage.
A. User
Do not wear any loose clothing, gloves, rings, bracelets, or other jewellery to get
caught in moving parts. Non-slip foot wear is recommended. Wear protective hair
covering to protect long hair.
Always wear eye protection. Also use face or dust mask if cutting operation is
dusty. Glasses cannot replace eye protection.
Don’t overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
Never leave tool running unattended. Turn power off. Don’t leave tool until it has
come to a complete stop.
Don’t operate tool under the influence of drugs, alcohol or any medication.
B. Use of Machine
Don’t force tool. It will do the job better and be safer at the rate for which it was
designed.
Use right tool, use recommended accessories.
C. Adjustment
Make all adjustments with the power off. The user should read the detailed
instruction manual when doing adjustments and assembling the machine.
D. Working Environment
Keep working area clean. Cluttered areas and benches invite accidents.
Don’t use in dangerous environment. Don’t use power tool in damp or wet
locations or expose them to rain. Keep work area well lit.
Keep children and visitors away. All visitors should be kept at a safe distance from
work area.
E. Maintenance
Disconnect the machine from power source when making repairs.
Check damaged parts. To read all details on trouble shooting, repair it very
carefully and make sure the operator won’t get hurt or damage the machine.
Scantool TSM 650 is constructed to operate with the delivered equipment. DO
NOT make any changes or use any accessories not approved for Scantool TSM
650.

6
When placing and securing the Scantool TSM 650 make sure that the crack
between shears and floor is less than ~2 mm to prevent cut off material to fall
under the shears. DO NOT cut plates that exceed the given max dimensions (see
technical specifications).

7
2.3 Maintenance
After a period of use it may be necessary Lubricate handle bar with acid-free oil
and adjust the upper knife. The length of this period depends on how many cutting
operations the shears have performed and also the thickness of the plate. It is
also necessary to grease the 2 grease nipples.
When adjusting the upper knife: first dismount the top plate (J) to be able to
dismount the protection plate (K) (see fig. 2.2) and also the plate holder (L). Now
loosen the 8 nuts (M) holding the slide bars (N) tightened.
Fig. 2.2 Now the upper knife can be adjusted according to the lower knife so there will be a
knife crack of approximately ca. 0,1 mm (see fig.: 2.3). Check this by making a
test cut without plate. Now the nuts can be retightened and the plate holder and
the top and protection plates can be refitted.

It is also possible to turn around the knives by dismounting them and turn them
180°, so they will cut with the opposite edge. This can be done with both upper
and lower knife as they are alike.
