SELF-AMALGAMATING TAPE
& DEE-RING CONNECTORS
When operating in an
environment where a tool
could fall a distance of 3 metres
or more
When working externally on
the perimeter of a structure.
When working within 3 metres of an
opening, riser, stairwell or perimeter
of a structure
Examples of when tools should be tethered
Please read and understand this User Guide and
Instruction Manual before using our tool tethering
products.
Tool lanyards and their components are for tool
tethering and should not be used for personal fall arrest.
Never exceed the allowable capacity for any tethering
system component.
Inspect tool lanyards and components before using
them.
Don’t modify or alter tool lanyards or wrap them around
objects with sharp or rough edges.
When an object falls from height, it gathers energy and
force. A Tool as light and blunt as a spanner has the
potential to cause damage, injury or death if it was to fall
on a person from height.
Sharp tools such as knives and screwdrivers can also
cause fatal injuries given their ability to penetrate upon
impact.
A dropped tool weighing 1.5kg falling 60 metres will
reach a speed of 80 miles per hour upon vertical impact.
If the falling object is deflected by a hard surface it can
fly over a very long distance greatly increasing the area
of danger. Heavier tools will generate greater speed and
velocity.

A Tool Lanyard is a tether that is designed to
act as an intermediate device between the tool
and the anchor point.
They allow a tool to be used freely whilst
maintaining a direct connection that will arrest
the fall if they are accidentally dropped in use.
The Work at Height Regulations (2005) state
The employer shall, take suitable steps to prevent the
fall of an object to prevent injury to any person being
struck by any falling material or object which is liable to
cause personal injury.
