the battery charger manufacturer may result in a

cord, pull by plug body rather than cord when

RULES FOR SAFE OPERATION

• DO NOT OPERATE CHARGER WITH A

DAMAGED CORD OR PLUG. If damaged, call our

sharp blow, been dropped, or otherwise damaged

shock or fire may result if reassembled incorrectly.

• To reduce risk of electric shock, unplug charger

from outlet before attempting any maintenance or

cleaning. Turning off controls will not reduce this

risk.

• Do not use charger outdoors.

• Disconnect charger from power supply when not in

use.

PRECAUTIONS REGARDING THE USE OF

CHARGER AND BATTERY

• Do not charge battery when temperature is below

39°F (4ºC ) or above 104°F (40ºC ).

• Never attempt to connect two chargers together.

• The charger is designed to operate on standard

household electrical power. Do not attempt to use it

on any other voltage.

• Do not insert foreign matter into the hole for the

battery in charger.

• Do not charge by means of an engine generator or

DC power source.

• Do not disassemble the battery.

• Do not store the tool and battery in locations where

the temperature may reach or exceed 104°F (40°C)

such as outside sheds or metal buildings in

summer.

• Do not incinerate the battery, even if it is severely

damaged or completely worn out. The battery may

explode in fire.

• Under extreme usage or temperature conditions,

battery leakage may occur. If liquid comes in

contact with your skin, wash immediately with soap

and water, then neutralize with lemon juice or

vinegar. If liquid gets in your eyes, flush them with

clean water for at least 10 minutes, then seek

immediate medical attention.

• Do not short-circuit the battery.

• Do not discharge battery beyond normal use limits.

Further discharging (such as by placing a rubber

band on the trigger switch) can cause a deep

discharge which may result in polarity reversal of a

cell rendering the battery useless.

OPERATION

USE THIS BATTERY CHARGER ONLY WITH

Scotts® 40V LITHIUM-ION BATTERY PACKS.

Battery packs are shipped in a low charge condition to

prevent possible problems. Therefore, you should

charge them prior to use.

NOTE: Batteries will not reach full charge the first time

they are charged. Allow several cycles (operating tool

followed by recharging batteries) for them to fully

charge.

BATTERY CAPACITY

By press the button, LED displays shows the battery capacity.

TO CHARGE

• Use this battery charger only with Scotts® Lithium

40V lithium-ion battery packs (BL82040, BL85040).

• Make sure power supply is normal house voltage,

120 volts, 60 Hz, AC only.

• Connect charger to power supply. The light will be

constant Green indicating that the power is on.

• Place the battery

pack in the charger,

aligning the raised rib

on the battery pack

with the groove in the

charger.

• Slide in the battery

pack to be sure

contacts on the

battery pack engage

properly with contacts

in the charger.

• When the battery is fully charged, unplug your

charger from power supply and remove the battery

pack.

CHARGING STATUS:

When charging a battery, the following stages will

occur.

• Green light on charger will

begin to flash.

• First battery LED light will be a

solid green light. The three

remaining green lights will

begin to flash.

• First and second battery LED

lights will be a solid green light.

The two remaining green lights

will begin to flash.

• First, second and third battery

LED lights will be a solid green

light. The last remaining green

lights will begin to flash.

• All battery LED lights will be a

solid green light. Charger green

light will be flashing until battery

is full.

Charge time is dependent upon the type of battery

pack.

• BL82040 charges in approximately 70 minutes.

• BL84140 charges in approximately 140 minutes.

• BL85040 charges in approximately 170 minutes.

Defective battery Off

• If defective, try to repeat the conditions a second time by

removing and reinstalling the battery pack. If the LED

status repeats a second time try charging a different

Scotts 40 Volt battery.

• If a different battery charges normally, properly dispose

of the defective battery pack.

• If a different battery also indicates “defective”, the

charger may be defective.

Flashing

Defective charger Off No light indicates the charger may be defective.Off

NOTE:

• The battery pack will become slightly warm to the touch while charging. This is normal and does not indicate a problem.

• When using a tool continuously, the batteries in the battery pack will become hot. You should let a hot battery pack

cool down for approximately 30 minutes before attempting to recharge.

• The charger and battery pack should be placed in a location where the temperature is more than 10°C but less than

40°C.

• 40V lithium-ion batteries are designed with features that protect the lithium-ion cells and maximize battery life. If the tool

stops during use, release the trigger to reset and resume operation. If the tool still does not work, the battery needs to

be recharged.

• If at any point during the charging process none of the LEDs are lit, remove the battery pack from the charger to avoid

damaging the product. Do not insert another battery. Contact us at 1-800-618-7474 for service or replacement.

LED Function of Charger

• After 30-60 minutes, including charging time, the lights will automatically shut off.

• During use, pressing the button will turn on the lights showing how much charge is left on the battery. The lights will

automatically shut off after 3 to 5 seconds.

• When battery pack reaches 70ºC , the built in thermal protection will stop the unit to protect the battery from damage.

Remove the battery pack from the unit and allow it to cool to below 50ºC . Once the battery has cooled, you may reinsert

the battery and resume the job.

• During charging, if battery temperature reaches 50ºC , the thermal protection will be activated and charging will be

halted. When battery cools to less than 45ºC, charging will resume. It is advisable to remove the battery from the

charger and allow ample time for cooling so the battery can be fully charged without interruption.

• If battery temperature is below 0ºC , battery cannot be charged. Charging will begin when battery warms to over 5ºC .

MAINTENANCE

WARNING:

When servicing, use only identical replacement parts.

Use of any other part may create a hazard or cause

product damage.

WARNING:

Do not at any time let brake fluids, gasoline,

petroleum-based products, penetrating oils, etc. come

in contact with plastic parts. They contain chemicals

that can damage, weaken or destroy plastic.

DO NOT abuse power tools. Abusive practices can

damage tools as well as the workplace.

WARNING:

Do not attempt to modify or create accessories not

recommended for use with this charger. Any such

alteration or modification is misuse and could result

in a hazardous condition leading to possible serious

personal injury.

Charging a Hot Battery Pack

When using a tool continuously, the battery pack may become hot. A hot battery pack may be placed directly

onto the charger port but charging will not begin until the battery temperature cools to within acceptable

temperature range. When a hot battery pack is placed on the charger, the red and green LED lights will be

flashing alternatively. When the battery pack cools, the charger will automatically begin charging. It is

advisable to remove the battery from the charger and allow ample time for cooling so the battery can be fully

charged without interruption.

Charging a Cold Battery Pack

A cold battery pack may be placed directly onto the charger port but charging will not begin until the battery

temperature warms to within acceptable temperature range. When a cold battery pack is placed on the

charger, the red LED and green LED will be flashing. When the battery pack warms, the charger will

automatically begin charging.

After the battery has been fully charged, the LED lights will remain on until the charger is disconnected from

the power source. Output current from the charger stops an hour after the battery is fully charged.

If the red and green LED lights keep flashing for over two hours and the charger still cannot resume charging,

please replace battery.

WARRANTY POLICY

Scotts Warranty policy

• 2 Year limited warranty on all Scotts 40V lithium ion batteries and chargers from date of purchase when used for personal,

household, or family use.

The Great States Corp. (GSC) warrants to the original owner that this Scotts product and service part is free from defects in materials and

workmanship and agrees to repair or replace any defective product or part for the warranty period as stated above.

• Warranty voided if used for commercial or industrial purposes or any other improper use as determined by GSC.

• Warranty does not include repairs necessary due to operator’s abuse or negligence (including overloading the product beyond capacity

or immersion in water), or the failure to assemble, operate, maintain or store the product according to the instructions in the owner’s

manual.

• This warranty does not cover

 Wear items, including but not limited to - drive belts & gears, tines, cutting blades, mower blades, saw chains, mulching

blades, blower fans, spool covers, trimmer line, blower and vacuum tubes, guide bars, high pressure hoses, wheels, handles,

augers, worn bags, power cables, and other items subject to wear over time.

 Wear on batteries, including but not limited to – drops, wear and breakage on charger, exposure to extreme temperature

swings (hot or cold), battery left on charger too long, battery left uncharged for too long, and misuse or abuse of the battery.

• This warranty does not cover damage caused by cold, heat, rain, excessive humidity or other environmental extremes.

• This warranty does not cover normal deterioration of the exterior finish or normal wear and tear on the products including, but not

limited to scratches, cracks, dents, or damage caused by outside chemicals.

• This warranty is not transferable and only applies to new products sold directly from an authorized retailer. This warranty does not

apply to any product, new or used, purchased through unauthorized third-party channels. For information on authorized dealers,

• Any incidental, indirect or consequential loss, damage, or expense that may result from any defect or malfunction of the products is not

covered by the warranty.

• The warranty does not include installation, assembly or normal adjustments explained in the operator’s manual. The expense of

delivering the product to the vendor and the expense of returning the product or replacement parts to the owner is not covered by the

warranty.

Additional Warranty Limitations

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you.

Products sold damaged or incomplete, sold ―as is, or sold as reconditioned are not covered under the warranty.

Damage or liability caused by shipping, improper handling, improper assembly, incorrect voltage, improper wiring, improper maintenance,

improper modification or the use of accessories and/or attachments not specifically recommended is not covered by this warranty.

CARGA DEL PAQUETE DE BATERÍAS

Los paquetes de baterías se envían con poca carga para

evitar posibles problemas. Por ende, debe

cargarlos antes de utilizarlos.

NOTA: las baterías no se cargarán por completo

en la primera carga. Realice varios ciclos (use la

herramienta y luego vuelva a cargar las baterías) para que

se carguen por completo.

PROCEDIMIENTO DE CARGA

• Utilice este cargador de batería únicamente con los paquetes

de baterías de iones de litio Lithium Scotts® de 40 V.

(BL82040, BL85040).

• Asegúrese de que el voltaje del suministro eléctrico sea el

doméstico normal: 120 voltios, 60 Hz, CA

• Conecte el cargador al

NOTA:

• La batería se calentará ligeramente al tacto mientras se carga. Esto es normal y no indica un problema.

• Cuando use una herramienta continuamente, las baterías en el paquete de baterías se calentarán. Debe dejar que la batería

caliente se enfríe durante aproximadamente 30 minutos antes de intentar recargarla.

• El cargador y la batería se deben colocar en un lugar donde la temperatura sea superior a 10° C pero inferior a 40°C.

• Las baterías de iones de litio de 40 V están diseñadas con características que protegen las celdas de iones de litio y maximizan

la vida útil de la batería. Si la herramienta se detiene durante el uso, suelte el gatillo para restablecer y reanudar la operación. Si

la herramienta aún no funciona, la batería necesita ser recargada.

• Si en algún momento durante el proceso de carga no se enciende ninguno de los LED, retire la batería del cargador para evitar

• Después de 30-60 minutos, contando el tiempo de carga, las luces se apagarán automáticamente.

• Durante el uso, al presionar el botón las luces se encenderán e indicarán cuánta carga queda en la batería. Las luces se

apagarán automáticamente después de 3 a 5 segundos.

• Cuando el paquete de la batería alcance 70°C, la protección térmica incorporada detendrá la unidad para impedir que se dañe la

batería. Retire el paquete de batería de unidad y deje que se enfríe hasta alcanzar menos de 50°C. Una vez que la batería se

enfríe, puede volver a insertar la batería y reanudar su trabajo.

• Durante la carga, si la temperatura de la batería alcanza los 50°C, la protección térmica se activará y se suspenderá la carga.

Cuando la batería se enfríe y llegue a menos de 45°C, se reanudará la carga. Se recomienda retirar la batería del cargador para

brindar más tiempo de enfriamiento de manera que la batería pueda cargarse por completo sin interrupción.

• Si la temperatura de la batería está por debajo de 0°C, no es posible cargar la batería. La carga comenzará cuando la batería

alcance una temperatura superior a 5°C.

Cargar el paquete de baterías cuando está caliente

Cuando se usa continuamente esta herramienta, se calienta el paquete de baterías. Se puede colocar un paquete de

baterías caliente directamente en el puerto del cargador; sin embargo, la carga no comenzará hasta que la temperatura de

las baterías disminuya y se encuentre dentro del rango de temperatura aceptable. Cuando se coloca un paquete de

baterías caliente en el cargador, las luces LED roja y verde parpadearán alternadamente. Cuando el paquete de baterías se

enfríe, el cargador comenzará a cargar automáticamente. Se recomienda retirar la batería del cargador para brindar más

tiempo de enfriamiento de manera que la batería pueda cargarse por completo sin interrupción.

Cargar el paquete de baterías cuando está frío

Si las luces LED rojas y verdes siguen parpadeando durante más de dos horas y el cargador aún no puede reanudar la

carga, reemplace la batería.

PRÉCAUTIONS CONCERNANT L'UTILISATION DU

CHARGEUR ET DE LA BATTERIE

• Ne chargez pas la batterie si la température est

inférieure à 4 °C (39ºF) ou supérieure à 40 °C

(104ºF).

• N'essayez jamais de connecter deux chargeurs

ensemble.

• Le chargeur est conçu pour fonctionner sur une

alimentation électrique domestique standard.

N'essayez pas de l'utiliser sur une autre tension.

• N'insérez pas de corps étranger dans le trou pour

batterie du chargeur.

• Ne chargez pas au moyen d'un générateur de

moteur ou d'une source de courant continu.

• Ne démontez pas la batterie.

• Ne rangez pas l'outil et la batterie dans des endroits

où la température peut atteindre ou dépasser 40 °C

(104 °F), comme les cabanons ou les bâtiments

métalliques en été.

• Ne brûlez pas la batterie, même si elle est

sévèrement endommagée ou entièrement usée.

La batterie risque d'exploser dans le feu.

• Une fuite de la batterie peut se produire dans

des conditions d'utilisation ou de températures

extrêmes. Si le liquide entre en contact avec la

peau, lavez immédiatement avec du savon et de

l'eau, puis neutralisez avec du jus de citron ou du

vinaigre. Si du liquide entre en contact avec vos

yeux, rincez-les à l’eau claire pendant au moins

10 minutes et appelez immédiatement un médecin.

• Ne court-circuitez pas la batterie.

• Ne déchargez pas la batterie au-delà des

limites normales d'utilisation. Une décharge

supplémentaire (par exemple en plaçant une bande

de caoutchouc sur le déclencheur) peut provoquer

une décharge profonde pouvant entraîner

l’inversion de la polarité d'un élément de la batterie

et rendre cette dernière inopérante.

Les blocs-batteries sont livrés dans un état de faible

charge pour éviter des problèmes possibles.

Par conséquent, vous devez les charger avant de

les utiliser.

REMARQUE : les batteries n'atteignent pas une pleine

charge la première fois. Attendez plusieurs cycles

(utilisation de l'outil suivie d'une recharge des batteries)

pour qu'elles se chargent complètement.

CHARGE

• Utilisez ce chargeur de batterie uniquement avec

des blocs-batteries 40V lithium-ion Lithium

(BL82040, BL85040) Scotts® .

• Assurez-vous que la tension d’alimentation est une

tension domestique normale, 120 V, 60 Hz, CA

uniquement.

• Branchez le chargeur à

l'alimentation électrique.Le

voyant sera d’un rouge

fixe indiquant que

l’alimentation est activée.

• Placez la batterie dans le

chargeur, en alignant la

nervure surélevée de la

batterie avec la rainure

dans le chargeur.

• Faites glisser la batterie pour vous assurer que les

contacts de la batterie s’engagent correctement

avec les contacts du chargeur.

• Lorsque la batterie est complètement chargée,

débranchez votre chargeur de l’alimentation et

retirez le module batterie.

clignoter.

• Les premier et deuxième

allumés en vert. Les deux feux

troisième voyants de la batterie

sont allumés en vert. Les

derniers feux verts restants

commenceront à clignoter.

• Tous les voyants de la batterie

seront allumés en vert. Le

voyant vert du chargeur

clignotera jusqu'à ce que la

batterie soit pleine.

Le temps de charge dépend du type de batterie.

• BL82040 charge en environ 70 minutes.

• BL84140 charge en environ 140 minutes.

• BL85040 charge en environ 170 minutes.
