Thank you for selecting the PROFORk, P CROSS-
WALK SI treadmill. The CROSSWALK SI treadmill
blends advanced technology with Innovative design to
let you enjoy an excellent form of cardiovascular exer-
cise In the convenience and pdvacy of your home.
For your benefit, read this manual carefully before
using the treadmill. If you have additional questions,
please call our toU-free HELPUNE at 1-800-736-6879,
Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Central
Time (excluding holidays). To help us esslst you,
please note the product model number and Serialnum-
ber before calling. The model number ofthe treadmill
is831.297364. The serial number can be found on a
decal attached to the treadmill (see the front cover of
this manual for the location).
Before reading further, please mvtew the drawing
below and familiarize yourself with the pads that are
labeled.

ASSEMBLY
CAUTION: Read and follow step I below before rernovlng the restraining Ue (sep cl_'a_ng "1).ff the restrain-
ing tie Is removed prematurely, serious bodily injury may result. Assembly requires_v/o people.. Set the tread-
mill in a cleared area and remove the packing materials except for the restraining tle"Do not dispose of the
packing materials untilassembly Iscompleted. Use the HARDWARE IDENTIRC_.TION CHART in the center of
this manual to identify the parts used in assembly. Assembly requires the Included allen wrench L==-, a
phillips screwdriver ..==_, and two adjustable wrenches G_==:_.
1. Slide the Left Upright (1) ontothe left side of the Base
(59). It may be necessary to firmly push down on the
Left Upright until it Is fully seated on the Base.
Remove the restrainingtie from the Base.
Attach the left handrailto the Base (59) with a Handrail
Bolt(93), 3/8" Washer (67), and Handrail Nut (4). Do not
tighten the Handrail Bolt yeL Using the allen wrench,
tighten two Upright Screws (63) with two of the four
Updght Washers (111) intothe Left Updght (1) and Base. Restralnlng
2. Slide the Right Upright (44) onto the right side of the
Base (59). It may be necessary to firmly push down
on the Right Upright until it is fully seated on the
Base. Be careful not to pinch the Wire Harness (25)
between the Right Updght and the Base.
Attach the right handrail to the Base (59) with a Handrail
Bolt (93), 3/8" Washer (67), and Handrail Nut (4). Do not
tighten the Handrail Bolt yet. Using the allen wrench,
tighten two Updght Screws (63) with the remaining Upright
Washers (111) into the Right Upright (44) and Base.
Hand tighten the Handrail Nuts (4) used in steps I and 2.
Using awrench, tighten the Handrail Bolts (93) used in
steps I end 2.
Remove the wire ties (not shown) attaching the Console
Base (9) to the Right Upright (44).
3. Set the Console Base (9) on the Left and Right Updghts
(1, 44).
While one person carefully fesds any slack Wire Hamess
(25) down intothe Right Upright (44), a second person
should carefully pull the slackWire Hamess from the
lower end of the Right Upright.
Attach the Console Base (9) with four Screws (75).
Align the holes in the Book Rack (62) with those in the
Console Base (9). Attach the Book Rack to the Console
Base with four Screws (75) as shown. 75

4. With the help of a secondperson, carefully lower the Left
and Right Uprights (1, 44) until the handrails are resting
on the floor.
.Attach six Base Pads (57) to the bottom of the Base (59)
in the indicated locations.Note: An extra Base Pad may
be included.
(See drawing 4above.) With the help of a second person,
raise the Left and Right Uprights (1, 44) until the Base
(59) is resting flat on the floor.
Before moving the treadmill, see HOW TO MOVE THE
TREADMILL on page 11.
So Remove the Resistance Knob (97), 3/8" Washers (67),
Spdng Washer (5), Thrust Washers (101), Thrust Bearing
(102), and Resistance Cone (98) from the Resistance
Boll (105). Be sure to keep all parts in order. Insert one
of the Upper Body Arms (96) intothe Resistance Cone
(98), making sure that it isturned as shown. Slide all
parts back onto the Resistance Boll (105). Refer to the
HARDWARE IDENTIFICATION CHART to make sure
that all parts are in the correctorder. Tighten the
Resistance Knob (97) onto the Res!stance Boll
Insert two Resistance Bracket Bolts (107) with Bracket
Washers (70) into the LeftUpdght (1). Slide two Star
Washers (103), a Spacer (106), and two more Star
Washers (103) onto the Bolts.Tighten the Bolts into the
:Resistance Bracket (104). (Note: It may be necessary to
loosen the Resistance Knob [97] and pivotthe
Resistance Bracket.)

Attach the other Upper BodyArm (96) as descn'bed
above. Make sure that bothUpper Body Arms are in the
position shown on page 4. Feed the slack Wire Harness
(25) into the Base (59).
Remove the backing from the Adhesive Clip (77). Press
the Adhesive Clip onto the Rear Roller Endcap (78) in the
indicated location. Press the Allen Wrench (76) into the
Adhesive Clip.
Make sure that all parts are tightened before you use the
treadmill. Note: To protect the floor or carpet, place a
mat under the treadmill. For information on ordering a
mat, see REPLACEMENT PARTS on the back cover.

OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT
THE PERFORMANT LUBE TM WALKING BELT
Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with
PERFORMANT LUBETM, ahigh-performance lubricanL
IMPORTANT: Never apply silicone spray or other
substances to the walking belt or the walking plat-
form. They will detedorate the walking belt and
cause excessive wear.
HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD
electric shock. This pro_uct_i_s_pqulppedwith a cord
having an equlpment-grodndi_g conductor and a
grounding plug. Plug,the po_er cord:into a surge
protector, and plug=the surge protector into an alP
proprfate outlet that Is properly Installed and
grounded in accordance with all local codes and
ordinances.
This product is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit,
and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illus-
trated in drawing I below. A temporary adapter that
looks like the adapter illustrated in drawlng 2 may be
used to connect the surge protector to a2-pole recep-
tacle as shown in drawing 2 if apropedy grounded out-
let is not available.
The temporary adapter should be used only until a
properly grounded outlet (drawing 1) can be installed
by a qualified electrician.
Your treadmill, like any other type of sophisticated
electronic equipment, can be seriously damaged by
sudden voltage changes in your home's power..
Voltage surges, spikes, and noise interference can re-
sult from weather conditionsor from other appliances
being tumed on or off.
To decrease the pos-
sibility of your tread- 1
mill being damaged,
always use a surge
protector (not in-
cluded) with your
treadmill.
Surge protectors are
sold at most hardware
stores and department
stores. Use only a UL-
listed surge protector,
rated at 15 amps, with a
14-gauge cord of five
fdct or less in length.
This product must be
grounded. If if should
malfunction or break
down, grounding pro-
vides a path of least re-
sistance for electric cur-
rent to reduce the risk of
The green-colored dgid ear, lug, or the like extending
from the adapter must be connected to a permanent
ground such as apropedy greu'nded outlet box cover.
Whenever the adapter is used It must be held in place
by a metal screw. Some 2-pole receptacle outlet box
covers are not grounded. Contact a qualified elsc-
tdclan to determine if the outlet box cover is
grounded before using an adapter.

STEP BY STEP CONSOLE OPERATION
Beforeoperating the console, make sure that the power
cord Is propedy plugged in. (See HOW TO PLUG IN
THE POWER CORD on page 7.) If there Is a thin sheet
of clear plasticon the face of the console, remove it.
Next, step ontothe foot railsof the treadmill. Rnd the
clipattached to the key (see the drawing above), and
slidethe clip ontothe waistband of yourclothing.
Follow the steps on page 9 to operate the console.

15 seconds for the most accurate reading. Ifthe dis-
played pulse appears to be too high or too low, or if
your pulse Is not displayed, liftyour thumb offthe
sensor and allow the display to reset. Press down
again on the sensor as described above.
Make sure that your thumb Is positioned as shown,
and that you are applying the prol_.r amount of pres-
sure tothe pulse sensor. Try the sensor several
times until you become familiar with it. Remember to
stand stillwhile measuring your pulse.

HOW TO USE THE UPPER BODY ARMS
As you exercise on
the treadmill, you
can hold either the
handrails or the
upper body arms.
The upper body
arms are designed
•to exercise your
arms, shoulders,
and back for atotal
body workout. Hold
one upper body
arm with each
hand, and move
them fomtard and
back a_ you walk
on the treadmill.
Upper Body
To varf the intensity of yourupper body exercise, the
resistance of the upper body arms can be adjusted. To
Increase the resistance, turn the resistance knobs dock-
wise; to decrease the resistance, turn the knobs coun-
terclockwise.
HOW TO CHANGE THE INCUNE OF THE TREADMILL
The incline of the treadmill can be changed byraising or
lowering the back end. Before changing the incline,
remove the key and unplug the power cord.

lion, the incline is about 10%. Raise the back end until it
dicks intoposition. (Note: It may be necessary to shake
the treadmill slightlyso that it dicks intoposition.)The
inclinewill then be about 5%. Raise the back end again
until it dicks into position.The inclinewill then be about
3%. To lower the back end, first raise it past the highest
position,and then lower it. CAUTION: Before exercis-
ing, push on the back of the treadmill to make sure
that the Incline legs are locked in position. Do not
place objects under the treadmill to change the in-
cline; change the Incline only as described above.

HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL
HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR ST()RAGE
Before folding the treadmill: unplug the power cord. Caution:
You must be abl e to safely lift 45 pounds (20 kg) In order
to raise, lower, or move the treadmill.
1. Hold the treadmill with your hands in the locations shown
at the right.To decrease the possibility of injury, bend
• your legs and keep your back straight. As you raise
the treadmill, make sure to lift with your legs rather
than your back. Raise the treadmill about halfway to the
vertical position.

2. Move your dght hand to the position shown and hold the
treadmill firmly. Raise the treadmill until th_ storage latch
doses over the frame guide. Make sure'that the storage
latch closes fully over the frame guide.
To protect the floor or carpet from damage, place a
mat under the treadmill. Keep the treedmlll out of di-
rect sunlight. Do not leave the treadmill In the storage
position In temperatures above 85° Fahrenheit.

HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL
Before movlng the treadmlll, conved the treadmill tothe stor-
age position as described above. Make sure that the stor-
age latch Is closed fully over the frame guide.
1. Hold the upper ends ofthe handrails. Place one foot on
the base as shown.
2. Tilt the treadmill back untilit mils freely on the frontwheels.
Carefully move the treadmill to the desired location. Never
move the treadmill without tipping It back, or the base
pads may come off. To reduce the risk of Injury, use
extreme caution while moving the treadmill. Do not st-
tempt to move the treedmlll over an uneven surface.
3. Place one foot on the base, andcarefully lower the tread-
milluntil it is resting in the storage position. Front Wheels
HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE
1. Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your dght hand as
shown. Uslng your left thumb, slide open the storage latch
and hold it open. Pivot the treadmill until the frame and
foot rail are past the storage latch.
2. Hold the treadmill firmlywith both hands, and lower the
treadmill to the floor. To decrease the possibility of In-
Jury,bend your legs and keep your back straight.

TROUBLE-SHOOTING
Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the simple steps below. Rnd the symptom that ap-
plies, and follow the steps listed. If further assistance Is needed, call our toll-fres HELPUNE st 1-800-736-
6879, Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Central Time (excluding holidays).
1. SYMPTOM: THE POWER DOES NOT TURN ON
a. Make sure that the power cord is plugged intoa surge protector, and that the surge protector is plugged into
a properly grounded outlet. (See HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD on page 7.) Use only aUL-listed
surge protector, rated at 15 stops, with a14-gauge cord of five feet or less in length.
b. Afterthe powercordhasbeen pluggedin, makesurethatthe keyis fullyinsertedintothe console.(See step
1onpage0.)
c. Check the circuit breaker located on the treadmill near the
power cord. If the switch protrudes as shown, the circuit
breaker has tdpped. To reset the circuit breaker, wait for five
minutes and then press the switch back in.
2. SYMPTOM: THE POWER TURNS OFF DURING USE Ic

a. Check the circuitbreaker located on the treadmill frame near the power cord (see 1. C. above). If the circuit
breaker has tripped, wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in.
b. Make sure that the power cord is plugged in.
c. Remove the key from the console.Reinsert the key fullyintothe console. (See step I on page 9.)
d. Ifthe treadmill still will not run, please call our toll-free HELPUNE.
3. SYMPTOM: THE INCLINE SYSTEM STICKS
a. Raise the treedmgl to the storage position. (See HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE on
page 10.) Pivot the incline leg several times to break in the inclinesystem.
4. SYMPTOM: THE WALKING BELT SLOWS WHEN WALKED ON
a. Use only a UL-listed surge protector, rated at 15 amps, with a 14-gauge cord of five feet or !ass in length.
b. if the walking belt is overtightened, treadmill performance may
decrease and the walking belt may be permanenUy damaged.
Remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. Using the
allen wrench, tum bothrear roller aa'justmentbolts counterclock-
wise, 1/4 of a turn. When the walking belt is properly tightened,
you should be able to lift each side of the walking belt 2-3
inches off the walking platform. The center of the walking belt
shouldjust touch the walking platform. Be careful to keep the
walking belt centered. P!ug in the power cord, insertthe key and
runthe treadmill for afew minutes. Repeat untilthe walking belt

5. SYMPTOM: THE TREADMILL SITS UNEVENLY ON THE FLOOR

allen wrench, turn 1_4hrcer rollersdjustmontbolt8 dockw_e,
1/4 of a turn. When the wddng belt ISoom_tiy tightened, you
shouldbe able to lifteach aide of the walidng belt 2-8 Inches off
the walklng-pistfomt. The center of the walking belt shouldjust
touchthe walldng platform. Be cere(ul to keep the walking belt
centered. Plug in the power oord, inesrtthe kay aed mn the

7. SYMPTOM: ONE OF THE UPPER BODY ARM8 SQUEAKS DURING USE

removed. Remove the Reslslame Cone (08) end _o Upper

(Note: If the Resistance Sleeve [gg] comes out of the
Resistance Bracket[104], press it beck in.) Apply s _th layer of
white madne grease to the outer 8udoce of the Resistance Cone
(98). Reaitach 811parts in the older shown at the dgt_.
8. SYMPTOM: THE DISPLAYS OF THE CONSOLE DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY
a. Check the I_tttedes in theconsole. (See BAI"I"BRY INsTALLATION on page 8.) Most problems 8re the re-
suit of drained bettedee.
b. If the speed display dces not show 8 oorreot reading, remove the
key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. _ the trasdmil to
the storage pceltlon. (See HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL
FOR sTOP,AGE on page 10.) Remove the tourindicated screws.
Next, lower the treadmill. (See HOW TO LOWER THE TREAD-
MiLL FOR USE on page 11). Remove the four screws from the
sides ofthe hood. Caratullyslide the hood forward and remove it.

Whether your goal is to bum fat or to strengthen your

if your goal is high performance athletic conditioning,
sot the speed control on the console to PERFOR-
MANCE to help you maintain the proper intensity level.
(See page 9.) Note: Dudng the first few weeks ofyour
exercise program, keep your heart rate near the low
end of your training zone.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HEART RATE
To measure your heart rate, use the pulse sensor on
the console. (See page 9.) If your heart rate istoo high
or too low, adjust the speed or incline of the treadmill
until your head rate is at the proper level.
WORKOUT GUIDELINES
Each workout should include three important pads:
A Warm-up
Begin with 5 to 10 _nutes of stretchingand lightexer-
rise. Warming up increases the bodytemperature, heart
rate, and dmulation in prepemtlon for vigorous exercise.

ing zone for longer than 20 minutes.) Breathe regularly
and deeply as you exercise--never hold your breath.
ACool-down
Rnlsh each workout with 5 to _10minutes ofstretching
to cool down. This will Incraese the flexibility ofyour
muscles and will help to prevent post-exercise problems.
Exercise Frequency
To maintain or improve your condition, complete three
workouts each week, with at least one day of rest be-
tween workouts. After afew months, you may com-
plete up to five workouts each week.
Remember, the key to success is to make exercise a
regular and enjoyable part of your everyday life.
SUGGESTED STRETCHES
The correct form for several basic stretches isshown in the
drawings below. Move slowlyas you stretch--never bounce.
1. Toe Touch Stretch
Stand wlth your knees bent slightlyand slowly bend forward
from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you
reach down toward your toes as far as possible. Hold for 15
counts, then relax. Repeat 3 times. Stretches: Hamstrings,
back of knees and back.
2. Hamstring Stretch
Sitwith one leg extended. Bring the sole of the opposite foot
toward you and rest itagainst the inner thigh of your extended
leg. Reach toward yourtoes as far as possible. Hold for 15
counts, then relax. Repeat 3 times for each leg. Stretches:
Hamstrings, lower back and groin.
3.'Calf/Achilles Stretch
With one leg in front ofthe other, reach forward and place your
hands against a wall Keep your back leg straight and your
back foot flat on the floor. Bend your frontleg, lean forward and
move your hips toward the wall. Hold for 15 counts, then relax.
Repeat 3 times for each leg. To cause further stretching of the
achilles tendons, bend your back leg as well. Stretches:
Calves, achilles tendons and ankles•
