Important safety instructions
Sy st e m
• Read t his instruct ion manual.
• Keep this instruction manual. Always include this instruction manual when passing the
products on t o t hird parties.
• Heed all warnings and follow all instructions in this instruction manual.
• Only clean the products when t hey are not connected to t he mains. Use a cloth for
cleaning.
• Only use at t achment s/ accessories specif ied by Sennheiser.
• Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
Servicing is required if the product s have been damaged in any way, liquid has been
spilled, objects have fallen inside, t he products have been exposed t o rain or moist ure,
do not operat e properly or have been dropped.
• WARNING: To reduce t herisk of fire or elect ric shock, do not use the product s near water
and do not expose t hem t o rain or moist ure.
Receiver
• Only use the supplied mains unit .
• Unplug t he mains unit from the wall socket,
– t o complet ely disconnect t he product from t he mains,
– during light ning storms or
– when unused for long periods of t ime.
• Only operat e t he mains unit from t he t ype of power source specified in t he chapter
“ Specificat ions” (see page 13).
• Ensure t hat t he mains unit is
– in a safe operating condition and easily accessible,
– properly plugged int o t he wall socket ,
– only operat ed wit hin t he permissible t emperat ure range,
– not covered or exposed t o direct sunlight for longer periods of t ime in order t o
prevent heat accumulation (see “ Specifications” on page 13).
• Do not block any ventilation openings. Install t he products in accordance wit h the
inst ruct ions given in t his inst ruct ion manual.
• Do not install t he products near any heat sources such as radiators, st oves, or other
devices (including amplifiers) that produce heat .
• Do not overload wall outlets and extension cables as this may result in fire and electric
shock.
• Ensure that t he mains unit is always accessible so that the connect ed product can be
easily disconnected from the mains at any time.

• Do not place t he product s near any heat sources such as radiat ors, st oves, or ot her
devices (including amplifiers) t hat produce heat.
• WARNING: These product s should be protect ed against the ingress of liquids (eg: water,
sweat, et c.) as this can cause malfunctions due to shortages or corrosion, etc.
Intended use
Intended use of t he product of t he XSWIRELESSsystems includes:
• having read this instruction manual especially the chapter “ Important safety inst ruc-
t ions” on page 2,
• using the products within the operating condit ions and limitat ions described in t his
instruction manual.
“ Improper use” means using t he products other t han as described in these instruct ions, or
under operating conditions which differ from those described herein.
Framework requirement s and rest rict ions on f requency usage
Bef ore put t ing your radio microphone syst em or ot her audio t ransmission syst ems int o
operat ion, ask t he relevant wireless regulat ory aut horit y f or t he exact f requency alloca-
tions and apply for an individual license if necessary. The t able on the inside back cover
provides an overview of t he different European framework requirement s and rest rict ions
on frequency usage. If t here is no entry in t he supplement, ask the relevant wireless regu-
latory authority for the current rules governing frequency usage.

The XS WIRELESS syst ems
Designed for different areas of application, the XSWIRELESSsystems are available in five
variants.
Present at i on Set XSW 12:This system is ideal for presentation applications. The unobtru-
sive ME2-2 clip-on microphone is virtually invisible.
Instrument Set XSW 72:This system is for connecting musical instruments (e.g. guitar)
which have a ¼” (6.3 mm) jack socket directly to the bodypack transmitter.
Vocal Set XSW 35 and Vocal Set XSW 65:These syst ems are ideal f or vocal and speech
applicat ions.
Headset Set XSW 52:The light weight and comfortable headset syst em gives absolut e
freedom of movement f or a more animated and impressive performance. High-quality
microphone technology provides clear, brilliant sound.
The XSWIRELESSsystems are available in five UHFfrequency ranges wit h 960 frequencies
per f requency range ( except range E = 520 f requencies) . Each f r equency range ( A, GB, B,
C, E) offers 8 frequency banks wit h up to 12 channels each. The frequency banks contain
f act ory-preset f requencies ( f requency preset s) .

Putting t he receiver into operation
You can set up the receiver as a single device or mount it into a 19” rack. For information
on rack mounting and optional accessories (e.g. rack mount “ ears” and remote antennas),
visit the XSWIRELESSproduct page at www.sennheiser.com.
Setting up the receiver
EPlace t he r eceiver on a f lat , even surf ace.
Connect ing the receiver to the mains
EConnect the connect or of t he mains unit t o the DCsocket Con t he receiver.
EConnect t he mains unit t o a wall socket . The receiver swit ches on, t he display panel is
backlit.
Connecting and aligning the rod antennas
The supplied rod antennas are suit able for all applications where – good reception condi-
tions provided – a wireless transmission system is to be used without a large amount of
inst allat ion work. To increase t he range, you can use remot e ant ennas which are available
as accessories f rom your specialist dealer .
EConnect t he t wo rod antennas t o t he BNCsocket s Eand 8at t he rear of t he receiver.
EAlign the ant ennas in a V-shape.
Connect ing the amplifier/ mixing console
EUse a suit able cable t o connect the amplifier or mixing console to the XLR-3M socket 9
or t he ¼” (6.3 mm) jack socket 0.
EFor a rough adjust ment of t he AFaudio level, set t he LINE/MICslideswitch Atothecor-
responding posit ion.
EUse t he volume cont rol 7of thereceiver to optimally adjust the AF audio level to the
input of the amplifier or mixing console.
CA U T I ON
Risk of st aining f ur nit ure sur f aces!
Furniture surfaces are oft en treated with varnish, polish or synt hetics which might cause
st ains when t hey come into contact wit h other synt hetics such as the device feet.
EDo not place t he receiver on delicat e surf aces; if necessary, place a pad under t he
receiver.

Inserting/ replacing the batteries (see fig. “ SK 20” )
EUse two AA size batteries (1.5 V) for powering the SK 20 bodypack transmitter.

Connect ing the microphone/ inst rument cable
The bodypack transmitter’s audio input is designed for the connect ion of both condenser
microphones (ME2-2 clip-on microphone and ME3 headmic) and instruments (e.g.
guit ars).
EConnect the clip-on microphone, headmic or instrument t o t he microphone/ inst rument
input 1.
Attaching the clip-on microphone
EUse t he microphone clip t o at t ach t he ME2-2 clip-on microphone t o clot hing.
EConduct t he cable so t hat noise due t o f rict ion is avoided and t hat t he microphone cable
and the antenna do not cross.
Put t ing on the headmic
EAdjust the ME3 headmic so that a comfortable and secure fit is ensured.
EPosition the microphone so that its sound inlet is direct ed towards the sound source.
Attaching the bodypack transmit t er to clothing
EUse t he belt clip 0to attach thebodypack transmitter to clothing.Makesurethat the
antenna is at least 1 cm away from the body and is not kinked.
Putting the radio microphone into operation
Inserting/ replacing the batteries (see fig. “ SKM 35/ SKM 65” )
EUse t wo AA size bat t eries ( 1.5 V) for powering t he SKM 35/ SKM 65 radio microphone.
EUnscrew the lower part of t he microphone body and open the battery compart ment
cover.

Swit ching the receiver on/ off
To swit ch t he receiver on:
EPress the st andby but t on 1.The receiver switches on, the display panel is backlit.
ECheck the RFsignal level “ RF”Hon t he receiver’s display panel.
– The RF signal level is not displayed: The receiver frequency is unused. You can put
your t ransmitter into operation.
– The RF signal level is displayed: The receiver f requency i s already used. Read t he
chapt er “ Select ing and changing a receiver channel” .
To swit ch t he receiver t o standby mode:
EKeep the standby button 1pressed until “ OFF” appears on the display panel.
To complet ely swit ch t he receiver of f :
EDisconnect t he receiver from the mains by unplugging the mains unit from the wall
socket .

Muting the t ransmitters
To mutethe transmitters:
EPress t he MUTE but t on. The mute LED lights up yellow. The audio signal is muted.
To cancel t he muting of the t ransmitters:
EPress t he MUTEbutton. The mute LED goes of f . The mut ing is canceled.
Adjusting the sensitivity
EUse the slide switch 6(SK) or 5(SKM) to adjust the sensit ivity.
Select ing and changing a receiver channel
Make sure t hat all receivers are set t o t he same f requency bank in order t o prevent int er-
f erence and int ermodulat ion t o t he t ransmit t er.
Selecting a menu item and act ivating it

Synchronizing a transmitter with the receiver
The receiver always t ransfers the frequencies t o the transmitter.

on the receiver’s display panel.
EPress t he but t on 5of t he receiver t o t ransf er t he select ed f requency t o t he
transmitter.
Adjusting the squelch t hreshold
Interference of the RFsignal due t o other transmission links can be eliminated as follows:
ESwitch t he transmitter off. The receiver should no longer receive a signal.
EIf the receiver st ill receives a signal, use the rotary switch for squelch threshold “ SQ”B
to increase the squelch threshold so that the signal will no longer be received. If the
signal cannot be eliminated in this way, set the transmitter and the receiver to a dif-
f erent channel.
ESwit ch t he t ransmit t er on again and check if t he receiver receives t he t ransmit t er
signal.
You can also synchronize a switched-off transmitter with the receiver. The trans-
mitter aut omat ically switches on during t he synchronizat ion process.
If t he squelch t hreshold isadjust ed t oo high, the transmission range will be reduced.
Therefore, always adjust the squelch threshold to the lowest possible setting.
