POWER CORD (MAINS LEAD)
Donot placethe productwhereapieceoffurnitureor otherheavyobjectcouldtrap thepowercord
(mainslead). Handlethepowercord bytheplug.Do not pull out the plug bytuggingthe cord and
never touchthe power cord whenyourhands arewet as thiscould causeashort circuitor electric
shock.Never makeaknot in the cord or tieit withothercords.The powercordsshould berouted in
suchawaythat theyare not likelyto bestepped on. A damaged powercord can cause fire or giveyou
anelectrical shock.Check the power cord periodicallyto see if it isdamaged.Ifit isdamaged, please
ask an approved service agent toreplaceit.
For your ownsafetyread following instructions carefullybefore attempting to connect this device to the
mains.
Thisunit is designed tooperateona220V-240V AC -50Hz supplyonly.Connectingit to other power
sourcesmaydamageit.Ensure thatthesupplycorrespondstotheinformationon theratinglabelon
the bottomof theunit. Thiscomponent systemmaybe fitted withanon-rewireableplug. If itis
necessaryto change the fusein anon-rewireable plug, thefusecover mustbe refitted. Ifthe fuse
cover becomeslostor damaged,the plugmostnot be useduntil areplacement, available fromthe
manufacturer, isobtained. It isimportant that the colourofthe replacement fusecover corresponds
withthecolour marking on thebaseoftheplug.Iftheplugneedsto be changedbecause it isnot
suitable foryour socket, or it becomesdamaged,it should be cut off andthe fuseremoved
immediately.Pleasedisposeof the plug safelyandoutof reach fromchildren. Under nocircumstance
should the cut-off plug beinsertedintoamainssocket outletdueto highrisk of electricshock.
Thenfit an appropriateplug carefullyfollowing the wiring instructions shownbelow.
IMPORTANT
The wiresin themainsplugshouldbe connected
asshown in the diagram.
The coloursof thewiresin the mains leadof the unit
maynotcorrespond with thecolouredmarkings
identifyingtheterminalsin yourplug. Connectthem
asfollows:
The wirewhich iscolouredblue must be connected
to theterminalwhich ismarked with theletter‘N’ or
colouredblack.
The wire which iscolouredbrownmust be connected
to the terminalwhichismarked withthe letter‘L’ or
colouredred.
Thereshould benoconnection toearthterminal of
yourplug.If youuse a13 Amp (BS1363)plug,you will
need a 5 Amp fuse.
The mainsplug isthedisconnectdevice andtherefore mustremain readilyoperable.
Howto replacethefuse
Openthe fusecompartmentwith a bladescrewdriverand replacethe fuse. Whenreplacingthefuse in
the plug,useASTAorBSI approved 5AMPfuseandbesure to re-fit thefuse cover. If theplug
suppliedwith thisequipmenthas adetachable fusecover, be sureattachthefusecoverafter you
change the fuse. Neverusetheplugwithoutthefusecover. If you shouldlosethe fuse cover,please
contactan electricalgoodsretailer. Ifin doubt,consult a competentelectrician howto replace thefuse

The mainsplugor theappliancecouplerisusedas thedisconnect device,the disconnectdeviceshall
remain readilyoperable.
Apparatusshallnotbe exposedto drippingorsplashing and noobjectsfilledwithliquids,suchasvases,
shallbe placed on theapparatus.
Nonaked flamesources,suchas lighted candles, should be placed onthe apparatus.
8. Accessories
Donot place thisproducton anunstable cart, stand,tripod,bracket,or table. Theproductmayfall,
causingseriousinjurytoachildor adult, andseriousdamagetothe product.Useonlywithacart,
stand, tripod, bracket, ortable recommendedbythemanufacturer, or sold withtheproduct. Any
mounting oftheproductshouldfollowthemanufacturer’sinstructions,and shoulduseamounting
accessoryrecommended bythe manufacturer.
9. Transportation
Aproductandcartcombinationshouldbe moved withcare. Quickstops,excessiveforceand uneven
surfacesmaycausethe product andcart combinationto overturn.
10. Ventilation
Slotsandopeningsinthe cabinet areprovidedfor ventilation to ensure reliable operationof the
productandto protectitfromoverheating,andtheseopeningsmustnotbeblocked or covered. The
openingsshouldneverbe blockedbyplacingtheproducton abed, sofa,rug,orothersimilar surface.
Thisproductshould not beplacedinabuilt-in installationsuchasabookcaseorrackunless proper
ventilationis provided or the manufacturer’sinstructionshave beenadheredto.
11. PowerSources
Thisproductshould beoperated onlyfromthe type ofpowersource indicated on the markinglabel. If
you are not sure of thetypeofpowersupplyto your home, consult yourproductdealerorlocalpower
company. For productsintended to operatefrombatterypower,or othersources, refer to the operating
instructions.
12. Groundingor Polarization
Thisproductisprovidedwithoneofthe following types of plugs.If theplug should failtofitinto the
poweroutlet, please contactyour electrician. Do notdefeat the safetypurpose of theplug.
a. Two-wire type (mains)plug.
b. Three-wiregroundingtype (mains)plug withagroundingterminal. Thisplug will onlyfitintoa
groundingtype poweroutlet.
13. Power-Cord Protection
Power-supplycordsshould berouted sothat theyarenot likelytobewalkedonorpinched byitems
placed uponor againstthem,payingparticularattention to cords at plugs,conveniencereceptacles,
and thepoint wheretheyexit fromthe product.
14. Lightning
Foradded protectionfor thisproductduring alightning storm,orwhen itisleft unattended andunused
for longperiodsof time,unplug it fromthewalloutletanddisconnectthecable system.This will
prevent damage tothe productdue to lightning and power-line surges.
15. Overloading
Donot overload walloutlets,extensioncords,or integral convenience receptacles asthiscanresult in

16. Objectand LiquidEntry
Neverpushobjectsofanykindintothisproductthroughopeningsastheymaytouchdangerous

17. Servicing
Donot attemptto servicethisproductyourself asopeningorremovingcoversmayexposeyou to
dangerous voltageorotherhazards.Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
18. Damage Requiring Service
Unplug this productfromthewall outlet and refer servicing to qualified servicepersonnel underthe
following conditions:
a. Whenthe power-supplycord or plug isdamaged.
b. Ifliquid hasbeen spilt,orobjectshave fallen intothe product.
c. If the producthas been exposedto rain orwater.
d. If theproductdoes not operate normallybyfollowingthe operatinginstructions.Adjustonlythose
controlsthat arecoveredbytheoperatinginstructions,asanimproper adjustment of other controls
mayresult in damage andwilloftenrequireextensiveworkbyaqualified technicianto restore the
product tonormaloperation.
e. Iftheproduct hasbeendropped or damaged in anyway.
f. Whentheproduct exhibitsa distinctchangeinperformance, thisindicatesa need for service.
19. ReplacementParts
When replacement partsarerequired,ensure the servicetechnician hasusedreplacement parts
specifiedbythemanufactureror havethe samecharacteristicsasthe originalpart. Unauthorized
substitutionsmayresult in fire,electricshock,or other hazards.
20. SafetyCheck
Upon completion ofanyservice orrepairs to thisproduct,ask the servicetechnicianto performsafety
checksto determinethattheproductisinproper operatingcondition.

1. Press the ^markon thecover and slide it inthe directionof the arrow.
2. Insert the batteriesmaking sure thepolaritiescorrectlymatch the + and -marksinside the battery
compartment.
3. Attach the coverand slideituntilit clicksintoplace.
Please followtheprecautionsbelow.
• Dangerof explosion if batteryis incorrectlyreplaced.
Replace onlywiththe same or equivalent type.
• Insert thebatteriesmakingsure thepolaritiescorrectlymatch the+ and -marks insidethe battery
compartment.
• Batteriesof different typeshave differentproperties, thereforedo notmixbatteriesofdifferenttypes.
• Donotmixnewandoldbatteries.
Thismayshortenthelifeofnewbatteries or maycause old batteriesto leak.
• Remove the batteries fromtheremote control once theyhave run out, asleaving themin can cause
themtoleak.
Batteryfluid fromleaked batteriesisharmfultoskin,therefore ensurethat you wipethemfirst and then
remove themusingacloth.
• Remove the batteries fromtheremote control if you will notbe using theremotecontrol foralong
time.

Connectallcablesbeforeplugging intomains.WhentheDigitalTV Recorderisfirstpoweredup,
pleasewaitfor awhilebeforeactivating thereceiversincebootingofsoftware willtakesometime.
Then,theunit entersfirst timeinstallation.
"NOTE" -When the unit isfirstpowered up, please waitforashortwhile as theunit'ssoftwareneeds
to be initialised and the harddisk ischecked.
The unit isequipped withoutputterminalsthat supportHDMI,RGB,S-videoand CVBSvideo signals.
The image qualityishighestinthe order of-HDMIsignal,RGBsignal, S-videosignalandtheCVBS

MENU INTERFACE
FIRST TIME INSTALLATION
When theboxisswitched on fromstand-bymodeandif thereis no channel storedinthedatabase,
FirstTimeInstallationMenu windowisdisplayedon the screen.Inthiswindow,set theTV type with
“3/4”buttonsandpressOK to continue.
The nextmenu will ask you to choosethe HDMIresolution.If you intendjustusing the Scart output
thenjust press OK and continue the scanning process.
Using the[LEFT] or[RIGHT] buttonson theremotecontrol,youcanselectbetween576p,720p and
1080i.PleasechecktheHDMIresolutionssupportedbyyour TV set andselectthemostappropriate
one fromthismenu.
The nextmenuwillaskyou,ifyouwant to begin withthe automaticchannelscan.Toconfirm
automaticchannel scan, usethe “3/4” buttons,highlightYES and press OKto continue. The unit will
startsearching for channels.Whenthe automaticchannel scaniscompleted,theunit willswitchtoPR
1.
CAUTION -Donotpressanybuttons on theremotecontrol or frontpaneldisplayduring automatic
channel search.
MAIN MENU
The main menuisaccessedbypressing“MENU” on the remotecontrol.
You can navigate themenuusing the“5/6”buttonson theremote
control. Toactivate themenuselection,pressthe OKbutton onthe
remote control. Press “BACK”onthe remotecontrol toexit the selected
menu.Inmostmenus,thereisan information banneratthe bottomof
thescreen. These are functions that can be applied in the menu.

1.1. NAVIGATINGCHANNEL LIST
In thechannel table“5/6” movesthe
selection tothe previousor next.Toexit
the menu and watchaspecificchannel,
highlightitusing,“5/6”thenpress OK
whilethe"SELECT" optionat thebottomof
the screen ishighlighted.If theselected
channel ispasswordprotected thenapopupmenuisdisplayed. Ifthe correctcode isentered, the
selected channelcan bewatched. Youcannowselectanotherchannelin the list.Thescroll Barin
middleofthescreenshowsrelativepositionof the currentlyvisiblechannelswithrespectto the whole
list.
1.2. DELETINGCHANNEL
Todelete achannel highlightitusing “5/6”,then highlight “Delete” using“3/4”and press “OK”. A
message isdisplayed toconfirmyour decision, if youstill wantto delete select“YES”,using“3/4”,
oryou can cancelthe operationif youselect "NO".
1.3. EDITCHANNELS
Torename a specificchannel, highlight"EditName" after thechannel isselected and press OK. Abox
appearson thescreen.“3/4”moves totheprevious/nextcharacter. “5/6”togglesthecurrent
character, i.e.,‘b’ characterbecomes‘a’ on“6”and ‘c’ on “5”.Pressing thenumericbuttons ‘0...9’
replacesthe highlightedcharacterwith thecharactersprintedabovethe buttononebyoneasthe
buttonispressed.Pressing BACK cancelsthe editingand OK savesthe newname.
1.4. ADDINGLOCKSTOCHANNELS
ChannelLocking providesapassword-protectedaccess tochannelsselectedbyparents.In orderto
lockachannel youshouldknowtheparentalLockpassword (set to 0000 in thefactoryandcan only
bechangedfromtheConfiguration Menu),fromthe channel listmenu highlightthechannel tobe
locked and select“Lock” using “3/4”(For more information,please refer to section6.2.10). WhenOK
is pressed apassword boxisdisplayed.Enter the parental Lockcode, pressOK andthe Lock icon will
bedisplayed in frontof theselected channel. Repeat the sameoperationtocancel theLock.

1.5. SETTINGFAVOURITE LIST
Favourite listsprovide an easywayto
group programsin acustomisable way.
Five favourite listsare availableonthis
productnamedasList1, List2, List3, List4
and List5.
ØFromthechannellistuse“3/4” to
highlight “Favourites”andpress OK
to enter the“Favourite Lists” menu.
ØPress “3/4” toselectyour
preferredfavouritelist
(List1/List2/List3/List4 or List5).
ØPress OK to addthehighlighted programmeto yourlistand continuetoaddtheprogrammes
you wanttoinclude inyourfavourites byhighlighting the channel and pressingOK.
ØRepeat theabove steps to remove the channelsfromthelist. Once completepressMENU to
saveyoursettings.
ØYou canstep throughyour favourite listsbypressing FAVon theremote.Each presswill
advancetothenextlist. Pressing PR+andPR- onthe remote will cyclethroughthe channels
you put inthecurrentlyselected favouriteslist.
2. PROGRAMME GUIDE(8DAYSEPG)
ElectronicProgramGuide appearsonthe
screen.It is ableto get Informationofthe
channel -/programsweeklybymeansof
8-DAYS–EPG. All programsofchannels
aredisplayed.The current programis
highlightedand thereisbrief information
about the programsof thechannel, such
as:name, short/extended event
description,start&endtime. Bypressing
“3/4”continuouslythetimescale canbe
changed.Ifthereisnoevent information
dataavailable onlyprogramnames and
dates are displayed.Across the bottomof
the screen there isaninfo barshowing all
the available commandswhicharelisted
below.
RED BUTTON (SHRINK) : make theinfoboxessmaller.
GREEN BUTTON(EXPAND): make theinfoboxeslarger.
YELLOW BUTTON(PREV DAY) : displays theprograms of previousday.
BLUE BUTTON (NEXT DAY) : displays theprograms of next day.
INFO (DETAILS) : displays theshort extended programsin detail.
OK (OPTIONS): showsthe programme optionsinclude “SelectChannel,
“Record / DeleteTimer”,“SeriesRecord / Series Delete
Timer”, “Check Conflicts”and “Set Reminder /Delete
Reminder”.
NUMERIC BUTTONS (JUMP) : gotopreferred channeldirectlyvianumericbuttons.
(RECORD) : theunit will record theselected progamme.
7(PAGELEFT) : movesthe pageto left.
8(PAGERIGHT) : movesthe pageto right.
TEXT (SEARCH) : activates“Search”window.
4(NOW) : showsthe current programme.

2.1. PROGRAMME OPTIONS
In EPG menu, press OK to enterthe “ProgrammeOptions”menu.
2.1.1. SELECT CHANNEL
In EPG menu, using thisoption,you canswitch tothe channel of the programmewhich is selected.
2.1.2. RECORD / DELETE TIMER
In EPG menu, afteryouhaveselected aprogramme, press OKand selectthe “Record” option inthe
menuwhichappearsandpress OK again.Arecording isnowset to theselected programme.This
optionoperateslikethe RECORD button.
Tocancel analreadyset recording,highlight thatprogrammeand pressOK andselectthe option
“Delete Timer”. Therecordingwill becancelled.
2.1.3. RECORD SERIES / DELETE SERIES TIMER
In EPGmenu,after you haveselectedaprogramme,pressOKandselectthe “Record Series”option
in themenuwhichappearsand pressOK again. Aseriesrecording isnowsetto the selected
programme.Withthisfeature,you can record aprogrammeandall of it’s following partswithin8days.
The seriesinformationbelongingto the selected programmewillbesavedfromthesoftwareand
followingseriesof theselected programmewhichare not included intheperiod of8days,willbe
automaticallyaddeddaybyday.Theletter “s” denotesthat these recordingsare series records.
Tocancel analreadysetseriesrecording,highlight thatprogrammeandpressthe OK buttonand
select the option “Delete SeriesTimer”. The recordingswillbe cancelled.
Note: Seriesprogrammeinformation isbroadcasted bythebroadcaster. If the "RecordSeries"option
isunavailable,thisisnot a fault with your unit.

The individual eventscarryingprogrammesthat comprise a seriesare also identified byBroadcaster.
If theDTR doesnot showthe seriesrecord option andjustsetsasingle record foranyprogramme,
theprogrammehasno identified seriesrecord data sent byBroadcaster.
Following programmesofanyselectedprogrammeasseriesare automaticallyadded tothe Timers
menu dayby-day.
Sharp recommendyou can checkthismenu regularlyto ensure the seriesrecording iscontinuing.
2.1.4. CHECKCONFLICTS
Aconflictiscaused, if more thantwoprogrammes areset forrecordinginthesametimeintervalorif
tworemindershavethe samestartingtime(Formoreinformation,pleaserefer tosection 2.1.7.). In the
EPG menu,press OK. Inthe followingwindow,selecttheoption“CheckConflicts”and pressagain
OK. You will enter the“Too ManyTimers”window.
2.1.5. SET REMINDER /DELETE REMINDER
In EPGmenu, after you have selectedaprogramme,press OK and selectthe “SetReminder” option
in themenu which appearsand press OK again.You can set a reminderfor future programs.
Tocancel analreadyset reminder, highlight thatprogrammeandpress OK and selecttheoption
“Delete Reminder”. Thereminder will be cancelled.
2.1.6. SPLIT RECORD
If you selectaprogrammetoberecorded, withthisfeature, if thereisanother part of theprogramme
available,itwillalsobe set automaticallytoberecorded. For examplein thefollowingpicture you see
the programmewitharedunderline andthe following episodeisalso underlined. Toperformthis
function,you onlyhave topressRECORD once.
Note: Splitprogrammeinformationisbroadcastedbythe broadcaster.Ifthe"SplitRecord"feature is
unavailable,thisisnota fault with yourunit.

Aprogrammemayconsistofmultiple eventsassignalled bythebroadcaster (for example,afilm
divided intotwopartsbyanewsprogramme wouldbethree events). Broadcaster Signallingcarried in
the data allowstherecorderto identifyand record theeventscontainingthepartsof asingle
programme.
If theDTRdoesnotshowthesplit recordoptionandjustsetsthesingle record for anyprogramme,
theprogrammehasno identified splitrecord data sent byBroadcaster.
The split record function isnot alwaysavailable.
2.1.7. MULTIPLE /ALTERNATIVE TIMER RECORD
It ispossibleto recordor set reminderfor twoindividual eventsat thesametimeinterval. If youset
morethan tworecordings/remindersat the sametime,you willsee an error message(Errormessage
isdisplayed as “ Too ManyTimers” ontop line ofthe window):
INFO: Pressing thisbutton, gives you detailed information about the selected programme.
Record/Cancel: Setsrecordingsfortheselected programme. If you pressit again, the recordingwill
becancelled.
OK: Pressing thisbutton will save the latestchangesand you will leave thiswindowand go back to
theEPGwindow.
Alternatives: Ifyoupressthisbutton,you will get alternatives for the programmewhich causes a
conflict.

NOTE: Aconflictiscaused, ifmore thantwoprogrammesareset for recording inthe sametime
interval or if tworemindershavethe samestarting time.Tosolve thisconflict, youhaveto selectan
alternative forone of those programmesor canceloneofthereminders.
NOTE: Ifthereisstillaconflictandyou leave thismenubypressingOK you willseethiswarning
message: “There arestill conflicts!”. In timermenu, youcanseethisconflictasthepicturebelow.A
warningtrianglewill appear nearbythe programmes whichcause aconflict. These programmeswill be
recorded particularlyor not.
3. TIMERS
TodisplayTimerwindowpress either TIMERS
ontheremote oractivate itfrommain menu.
The features of thismenuare:
Delete: Youcan deletethehighlightedsingle
timer or seriestimer.
Edit: Youcan editthesaved timers.
Add: Bypressing thisbutton,youwillgo tothe
“AddTimer” menu.

Options: If you presstheOK,youcanselectthe “Delete Timer”,“Delete Series Timer”and“Check
Conflicts”.
To addaTimer pressYELLOWon the remote and the,“Add Timer “ windowsappears.
Channel: “3/4”will navigatetheuser
throughtheTVor Radio list.
Date: Byusing either“3/4”or “0,1,2…,9”
startdate isentered.
Start: Byusingeither“3/4”or“0,1,2…,9”
starttime isentered.
End: Byusingeither“3/4”or “0,1,2…,9”
end timeisentered.
Duration: Displaysthe durationof the
recording.
Thisisautomaticallyworkedout afterthe start and endtimeshavebeen entered.
Playback: permitorblock playbackforother users."use parentalsettings" isdefault.
Change /Delete: permit orprohibitanymodificationsfor other users.
When atimer Starttimeisreached,thereceiverstartsto recordthedesiredprogram,thenwhenthe
endtimeis reached, the recordingstops.Save the adjustmentsbypressingthe GREEN, or cancel by
pressingRED on the remote control.Youcan editthelistbypressingGREEN, ordeletebypressing
RED on the remotecontrol.
4. RECORDINGSLIBRARY
All therecordings arekept in alist.Toshowthelistofrecordingspress eitherLIB onthe remote
control or access itfromthemainmenu.
RED BUTTON (DELETE) : erase the recordings
GREEN BUTTON(EDIT ) : make changestothe recordings
YELLOW BUTTON (TAG) : marks the recordingsforarchiving
BLUE BUTTON (SORT) : changethe order of the recordings
INFO (DETAILS) : displays theshort extended programsin detail
OK BUTTON : opensthe playoptions menu
4(RESUME): recommence the recordings
Redbar: indicates the used space of therecordingsonthe hard disk.
Yellowbar: displaysthe approximate capacityrequired for the timerscurrentlyset.
