Operating Nexera CL System
nIntended Use
This system is designed to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of target
compounds in a sample matrix and can be used as a flow channel selection valve of the
liquid chromatograph for general in vitro diagnostic applications. However, only
personnel who have received appropriate training on use of the system can use it for
these purposes.
nCalibration
A calibration curve should be generated for each analyte in appropriate methods. At
least four out of six non-zero standards should meet the appropriate criteria, including
the calibration standard lower than the assumed LOQ and the calibration standard at
the highest concentration.

Indications Used in This Manual

nQuality Control
Implement quality control of the instrument by routinely measuring at least one each of
four types of quality-control samples (a sample with a normal concentration level, a
sample with a concentration level higher than normal as well as a sample lower than
normal, and a blank sample). Check the selectivity/specificity in the matrix used for the
actual sample, the accuracy, correctness, recovery rate, dynamic range, linearity, and lower
limit of quantitation.
Based on these assessment results, check that the results are within the permissible range.
If the assessment results are out of range, the measured data may be invalid, so do not
use analysis results obtained from the instrument in question until it can be confirmed
that it is functioning normally. When, for example, analyzing samples that contain
complex sample matrices such as serum, plasma or urine, it may be possible to obtain
stabilized data by using an appropriate pre-treatment or an internal standard.

This product is equipment for operating the flow channel selection valve for the liquid
chromatograph. By attaching the separately sold flow channel selection valve to this unit,
users can use this unit to automatically switch columns, switch sample pre-treatment flow
line, and switch the flow line of the auto drain valve, as well as for other applications.
This instrument switches the communicating ports by rotating a rotor component with a
channel groove.
FCV-S CL is a unit for controlling one flow channel selection valve. The flow line can be
switched by using the operation buttons on the front side of the unit.
1.1 Features
nUsable for flow line switching in various applications
Users can select a driving unit and the flow channel selection valve(s) (e.g. two-position
six-port valve and six-position seven-port valve) according to the system configuration
being used for flow line switching in various applications.
This is the control unit that drives a single flow channel selection valve. It is equipped
with one flow channel selection valve driving unit FCV-DR as standard.
It is also possible to switch the valve from the operation unit as a standalone operation.
nFlow channel selection valves can be easily replaced
Flow channel selection valves can be replaced from the front side of the equipment
without using any tools. To change the flow line configuration of your system, this unit
supports different applications by replacement of only the flow channel selection valve.
nDetects leaks
In case of a leak from the flow channel selection valve, the leaked fluid is collected into
a tray while the leak is detected, stopping the analysis.
nCan control up to eight flow channel selection valves
This product can control up to eight flow channel selection valves. It can contribute to
building a complex application.

engaged to fix the flow channel selection valve in place.

2 Parts Identification and Function

3.1 Installation
3.1.1 Before Using the FCV-S CL
A separately sold flow channel selection valve must be installed before using the FCV-S
CL. Install the flow channel selection valve by following the steps below.

1Insert the flow channel selection valve into the FCV-S CL’s valve mount.
When the flow channel selection valve is inserted all the way, the locks on the valve
mount of the FCV-S CL engage and keep the valve in place.
The illustration below shows the completed FCV-S CL after installing the flow channel
selection valve.
For instructions on how to install the flow channel selection valve, refer to the
instruction manual for the flow channel selection valve (228-92990).
Screws and fittings for securing this product during transportation are not
provided. Use the components as provided.

Refer to the "Relationship of Valve Position and Flow Line" section, and perform the
piping that suits your application.

3.2.2 Piping the Waste Liquid Flow Line (FCV-S CL)
This section explains the connection of the flow line for waste liquid from FCV-S CL.
1Insert the supplied waste liquid tube (A) into the drain port located at the lower
right corner on the front side of the equipment.
2Cut the tube according to the distance to the waste liquid tank and fix it to the
clamp.

3.3 Turning On the Equipment
1Turn on the power switch (A) located on the back side of FCV-S CL.
Both LED indicators (Link LED and Error LED) on the operation panel light up, and the
home position seeking for the flow channel selection valve starts.

When the home position seeking for the flow channel selection valve is completed, the
flow channel selection valve moves to the initial position and the flow line position is
displayed on the flow line display panel.

The link LED indicator shows the status of the previous completion, and the error LED
indicator turns off.
The remote mode setting is also preserved at power-off.
If the unit is set to remote mode and the external input terminal is
short-circuited, the flow line position changes according to the external input
setting.

1Turn off the power switch located on the back side of FCV-S CL.
3.5 Using the FCV-S CL with Manual Operation
The FCV-S CL can be manually operated using the buttons on the operation panel. This
section explains the settings for using the FCV-S CL with manual operation without
connecting to other equipment.
1Make sure that the flow channel selection valve is secured to the FCV-DR valve
mount built into the FCV-S CL.
The FCV-S CL both need the separately sold flow channel selection valve installed.
Purchase the appropriate flow channel selection valve according to your
application.

2Turn on the power switch.
3Press the link key to set to local mode.
When this product is set to local mode, the link LED indicator is turned off.
Flow line switching by button operation is not available in remote mode. Be
sure to set to local mode.
4Press the flow line switching key (< and >) to change the flow line.
When a seven-port six-position valve is used, pressing the left key switches the valve
position to that with the number one before the current number. Pressing the right key
switches the valve to the position with the number one after the current number.
If the same direction key is pressed continuously, in the case of a six-position
valve, the valve position changes from 5 to 6 to 0 to 1, and cycles.

3.6 Remote-Controlling the Equipment from Autosampler SIL-40 CL series
The FCV-S CL can both be remotely controlled by autosampler SIL-40 CL series.
When the instrument connected to the FCV-S CL is also connected to an CBM-40,
a link check error occurs if the link check function is enabled. It is not a problem
to clear the error and proceed.

This section explains the procedure for controlling the FCV-S CL in remote mode.
1Turn off the power to the autosampler and to the FCV-S CL.
2Connect the supplied cable for connecting optional products to the OPTION
connector of the autosampler.
