Model A15AS
User Guide
MODEL A15AS SWITCHABLE IN-LINE ATTENUATOR
This balanced-line attenuator can be used whenever the output
level of a low-impedance (rated at 150 or 600 Ω) microphone
overloads a low-impedance input. The values of attenuation can
be switch selected for 15, 20, or 25 dB.
The attenuator is optimized for use with phantom powered con-
denser microphones like the Shure Model SM81; and it can be
used in the line between the microphone and its power supply.
The A15AS is also ideal for use with any low-impedance dynamic
microphone. (This model is not suitable for use with the condens-
er powering system called “A-B Powering.”)
27B1915 (TL)
2000, Shure Incorporated Printed in Mexico
The A15AS attenuator operates by, in effect, bridging the micro-
phone output and allowing maximum signal handling with mini-
mum loading-caused distortion or reduction in clipping level.
Thus high-output condenser microphones or low-impedance dy-
namic microphones used at very high sound pressure levels can
be connected to ordinary low-impedance inputs with appropriate
attenuation for each application.
The impedance at the input end (three-socket connector*) of the
A15AS is 1,000 Ω; the impedance at the output end (three-pin
connector*) is 150 Ω. The equivalent single series simplex-pow-
ering resistance is 215 Ω; this resistance should be considered
in addition to any existing circuit resistance when using the atten-
uator.
*Designed to mate with Cannon XL series, Switchcraft A3 (Q.G.) se-
ries, or equivalent.
