1 Introduction
This instruction describes the installation of liquid-cooled Sinamics S120 power units
with chassis into a separate cabinet for marine applications.
Remark
Here,
we also refer to chapter “Cabinet construction and EMC“ of the equipment manual
(GH7) Sinamics S120,
Power units / Chassis / Liquid-cooled.
The demands required by the environmental conditions (IEC 60092 Serie) on
seagoing vessels and offshore plattforms have to be observed upon layout and
construction of the equipment.

2 Safety instructions
The safety instructions included in chapter “Basic Safety Instructions“ in the equipment
manual (GH7) Sinamics S120, Power units / Chassis / Liquid-cooled must be
observed!
WARNING
Danger to life owing to non-observance of the basic safety instructions and of residual risks
In case of non-observance of the basic safety instructions and the residual risks acc. to chapter “Basic
Safety Instructions“ of the equipment manual (GH7) Sinamics S120, accidents causing severe injuries
or
death may occure.
•Observe strictly the Basic Safety Instructions.
•Upon risk assessment bear in mind the residual risks.
WARNING
Danger to life owing to improper transport and installation of the power units
Improper transport or installation of the power units may cause severe or even fatal injuries and
extensive
material damage.
•Transport, mount and demount the power units only, when you are qualified for this job.
•Observe that the power units can be very heavy and top heavy and take the necessary precautions.
•Secure the power units upon installation or deinstallation always by fixing them to the crane hook.
•Bear your personal protective equipment (i.e. safety shoes, gloves).
CAUTION
Material damage by mechanically loaded power-rails and conections for coolants
Mechanically loaded power-rails and connections for coolants may cause damages at the power unit.
•Don’t use the power- rails and coolant connections protruding from the power unit as handles for
carrying or as a place for depositing things during the transport.

3 Mechanical design
3.1 Cabinet mounted design
General instructions regarding the cabinet mounting of the liquid cooled S120 power
units of the chassis version you will find in chapter “Control cabinet construction and
EMC (particularly the chapter ”Vertical installation “) of equipment manual Sinamics
S120 Power units / Chassis / Liquid-cooled.
3.2 Mechanical design of the marine-type cabinet
The high loads / demands in the marine area require an adaption of the mechanical
design of the cabinet. Possibilities to increase the mechanical stability of the cabinet
and the stable mounting of the power units into the cabinet are demonstrated in the
following pictures and the following description.

Cabinet:

Installation of Motor Modules, Active Line Modules and Diode Line Modules
The Motor Modules, Active Line Modules and Diode Line Modules shhall be mounted
to the backside of a mounting plate, in compliance with their fixing holes. The
mounting plate can be mounted to the backside of the cabinet, as shown in Fig. 1. If
the arrangement of the mounting plate is not possible at the backside of the cabinet,
special attention has to be paid on a stable installation of the mounting plate (see Fig.
2).
Underneath the power units mounting brackets have to be fixed for the support of the
power units.
Additionally a fixation in the front section of the power units is required. For that, in
case of Motor Modules, Active Line Modules and Diode Line Modules, the holes of the
lower mounting brackets and the thread hole of the eyebolt can be used (eyebolt is
mounted for transportation only).

Installation of the Active Interface Modules
:
The filter modules of the Active Interface Modules have to be mounted to the backside
of a mounting plate (resp. to mounting rails), in correspondence with their fixing holes.
The mounting plate / mounting rails can be mounted to the backside of the cabinet, as
shown in Fig. 1. If installation of the mounting plate / mounting rails to the backside of
the cabinet is not possible, spcial attention has to be paid on a stable mounting of the
mounting plate / mounting rails (see Fig. 2).
Additionally, a fixation of the filter module will be required in the front zone. For that,
the laterally provided fixation bores with diameter 7mm can be used.
The reactor of the Active Interface Module is prepared for installation underneath the
filter module. The reactor has to be mounted underneath on a mounting base or
mounting plate, acc. to their fixation holes. A stable setup and a uniform load
distribution over a large area are essential, owing to the mass of the reactor.
Therefore, the reactor support area on the mounting base or mounting plate on the
reinforced cabinet frame should be as large as possible.
An additional fixation of the reactor in the top zone, with a stable fixation in the bottom
ares is not required .
3.3 Screws and tightening torques
For fabric-base laminates, synthetics, aluminium, copper, captive nuts, welding nuts,
blind rivet nuts, rivet nuts and hard materials (steel), screws of strength class
≥8.8 have to be used.
Insofar, as there are no differing specifications mentioned in the technical
documentation, the tightening torques indicated in table 1 shall apply for electrical
and mechanical connections.

3.4 Built-in components
For the installation of the supplementary system components sufficiently dimensioned
top-hat rails or mounting plates / mounting rails have to be provided.
Supplementary system components, where the installation on top-hat rails is possible
have to be mounted on top-hat rails 15x35 and to be fixed on both sides by clamps (by
means of end clamps, for instance type TM31, SMC10 and VSM10.
If a supplementary system component is mounted on a mounting plate or mounting
rail, the tightening torques for screws as listed in chapter 3.3 have to be observed.

4 Air routing
Here we are refering to chapter “Vertical installation“ and “Air volume flow and
ventilators required“ of the equipment manual Sinamics S120 Power units / chassis /
liquid-cooled. In the there-mentioned chapters the requirements on air-routing in case
of vertically installed power-units in the cabinet are considered.
Remark
The
max. permissible temperatures of the supplementary system components have to be
strictly
observed.

Here we refer to chapter “Cooling circuit, coolant properties and dewing protection“ in
the equipment manual Sinamics S120 Power units Chassis Liquid cooled. In the
there-mentioned chapter the requirements on cooling circuit, coolant properties and
dewing protection are considered. Additionally, remarks on the projecting of the
cooling circuit and examples for controlling the coolant are included.
