Introducing the eSATA II ExpressCard
The eSATA II ExpressCard is an ultra high-speed dual
channel Serial ATA Generation 2 controller.
Features and Benefits

Hardware Installation
General instructions for installing the card are provided
below. Since the design of systems may vary, refer to
your system’s reference manual for further information,
if needed.
Insert the eSATA II ExpressCard into the ExpressCard slot
of your system. Make sure it is inserted all the way in for
a solid connection.
Whenconnecting/disconnectingdevices,holdthe eSATA
II ExpressCard so it does not move from side to side,
otherwise it may eject from the slot or lose connection
with the operating system.

Driver Installation
Windows 7 (32-/64-bit)
1. Install the ExpressCard into an ExpressCard slot.
2. Insert the driver CD. (Close the AutoPlay box if
prompted)
3. Right click Computer, click Manage, then click
Device Manager.
4. Right click Mass Storage Controller, click Update
Driver Software.
5. Click Browse my computer for driver software.
6. Type D:\, click Next. (Change D: to match your
CD/DVD-ROM drive letter)
7. Click Close to complete the installation.
Windows Vista (32-/64-bit)
1. Install the ExpressCard into an ExpressCard slot.
2. At Found New Hardware, click Locate and install
driver software (Recommended), then click
Continue.
3. Insert the driver CD and the driver will install
automatically.
4. Click Close to complete the installation.
Windows XP (32-/64-bit) / Server 2003 (32-/64-bit)
1. Install the ExpressCard into an ExpressCard slot.
2. AttheFound New Hardware Wizard,selectNo, not
this time, then click Next. Skip this step if not
prompted.
3. Insert the driver CD, select Install the software
automatically (Recommended), then click Next.
4. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Windows Server 2008 (32-/64-bit)
1. Install the ExpressCard into an ExpressCard slot.
2. AttheFound New Hardware window,selectLocate
and install driver software (Recommended), then
click Don't Search Online.
3. Whenprompted, insert the driver CD and Windows
will automatically install the correct driver.
4. Click Close to complete the installation.
Windows 2000
1. Install the ExpressCard into an ExpressCard slot.
2. At the Found New Hardware Wizard, click Next.
3. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device
(recommended), and click Next.
4. InsertthedriverCD,checkCD-ROMdrives,uncheck
the other boxes, and click Next. Click Next again to
continue.
5. Click Finish to complete the installation.
To Verify Windows Installation
1. Use Device Manager to verify installation.
For Windows 7 / XP / Server 2003 / 2000: Right click
Computer or My Computer, click Manage, click
Device Manager.
For Windows Vista: Right click Computer, click
Manage, click Continue. Click Device Manager.
For Windows Server 2008: Right click Computer, click
Manage. Double click Diagnostics, click Device
Manager.
2. Double click either Storage controllers or SCSI and
RAID controllers. Silicon Image SiI 3132 ...
Controller should be displayed.

External Device Connection
External Serial ATA devices should come with their own
accessories. In most cases, you just need to power up the
external device and connect it to the external port. For
more information, please refer to the external device's
manual.
Connecting Hard Disk Drives
When connecting a hard disk drive, hold the eSATA II
ExpressCard so it does not move from side to side,
otherwise, it may eject from the slot.
Safely Remove External Hard Disk Drives
To unplug a hard disk drive from a powered up system,
do the following.
Windows 7
1. Right click Computer, click Manage.
2. Select Device Manager.
3. Double click Disk Drives, right click the target disk.
4. ClickUninstall. Click OKto confirmdeviceremoval.
5. You can now unplug or turn off the hard disk.
Windows Vista
1. RightclickComputer, click Manage,clickContinue.
2. Select Device Manager.
3. Double click Disk Drives, right click the target disk.
4. ClickUninstall. Click OKto confirmdeviceremoval.
5. You can now unplug or turn off the hard disk.

Windows XP / Server 2003 / 2000
1. Right click My Computer and click Manage.
2. Select Device Manager.
3. Double click Disk Drives, right click the target disk.
4. Click Uninstall.Click OKto confirm device removal
5. You can now unplug or turn off the hard disk.
Windows Server 2008
1. Right click Computer and click Manage.
2. Double click Diagnostics, select Device Manager.
3. Double click Disk Drives, right click the target disk.
4. ClickUninstall. ClickOK to confirmdeviceremoval.
5. You can now unplug or turn off the hard disk.
Removing the eSATA II ExpressCard
Use Windows Safely Remove Hardware utility to stop
the eSATA II ExpressCard before removing it from the
ExpressCard slot. Not doing so may corrupt or destroy
your data.
Windows 7
1. The utility is located in the taskbar by the system
clock.
2. ClicktheSafelyRemoveHardware and EjectMedia
icon.
3. Click either Eject Mass Storage Controller or Eject
... SCSI Disk Device.
4. At the Safe To Remove Hardware box, it is safe to
remove the eSATA II ExpressCard from the
ExpressCard slot.

Windows Vista / Server 2008
TheeSATA IIExpressCard willappearintheSafelyRemove
Hardware utility only if it is plugged into the computer
before booting up Windows.
1. The utility is located in the taskbar by the system
clock.
2. Click the Safely Remove Hardware icon.
3. Click Safely remove Silicon Image SiI 3132
SATALink Controller.
4. At the Safe To Remove Hardware box, click OK. It
is now safe to remove the eSATA II ExpressCard.
Note: If the eSATA II ExpressCard does not appear
in the Safely Remove Hardware utility, the
connected hard disk drive(s) must first be stopped
before removing it from the ExpressCard slot. Not
stopping the hard drives prior to removal may
corrupt or destroy any data on the hard disk drive.
See Safely Remove External Hard Disk Drives on
page 5for more information.
Windows XP / Server 2003 / 2000
1. The utility is located in the taskbar by the system
clock.
For Windows XP / Server 2003 & 2008: Click the
Safely Remove Hardware icon.
For Windows 2000: Click the Unplug or Eject
Hardware icon.
2. Click Safely remove Silicon Image SiI 3132
SATALink Controller.
3. Wait for the Safe to Remove Hardware pop-up box
to appear before removing the eSATA II ExpressCard
from the ExpressCard slot.

Assigning Drive Letter to an External Hard Disk
Most external hard disks come formatted and ready to
use. When connected, a drive icon will show up in
Computer/My Computer and you can access the drive.
However, sometimes Windows will not automatically
assign a drive letter to a formatted external hard disk
drive, in this case, the drive icon will not show up in
Computer/My Computer. If this happens, follow the
directions below to assign a drive letter to the hard disk.
You will only need to do this the very first time a hard
disk is connected. These steps, taken from Windows
Server 2003, are similar for all Windows versions.
1. Right click Computer or My Computer, click
Manage, click Disk Management. Look for a
Healthy disk without a name and drive letter
assigned to it, see the shaded area in Figure 2.

2. Right click on the Healthy disk (the disk without a
name and drive letter), then click Change Drive
Letter and Paths. See Figure 3.

3. At Change Drive Letters and Paths, click Add.

4. At Add Drive Letter or Path, select Assign the
following drive letter, then choose any available
drive letter from the drop down box. Click OK.

5. Adriveletter,inthis example G:, should be assigned
to the Healthy drive. Repeat these steps if no drive
letter appears.
