Overview
The LumaView Infrared Illuminator (IR75W) is a weatherproof, high power infrared
lamp. The lamp facilitates capture of high quality images in low light and complete
darkness at a distance of up to 295 feet (90 m). The IR75W is recommended for
outdoor use only.
Important Safeguards and Precautions
Before You Begin
Working with Infrared Light
IR illuminators do not constitute any form of health hazard providing normal safety
precautions are taken.
The IR75W has a wavelength of 715 nm to 950 nm, depending on the filter used. It
is NOT a laser and is not considered to be dangerous to the unshielded eye.
However, as with any light source, it is recommended that you take precautions to
avoid unnecessary exposure. Do not look directly into the lamp beam when it is
operating or view directly with optical instruments at close range.
WARNING! Prolonged direct exposure to the radiant
energy from the unit can cause permanent
damage to the eye retina.
Working with Infrared Illuminators
• The installation and servicing of this equipment should be done by qualified
technicians and should conform to all local codes.
• The IR75W must be cooled before replacing the lamp (bulb) and/or filter.
• Only use replacement parts recommended by, and obtained from, Silent
Witness.
Caution Risk of electric shock. Disconnect power before servicing.
Please read this guide carefully before you install
the IR75W.
Keep this guide for future reference.

Unpack Everything
Check that the items received match those listed on the packing slip. The IR75W is
a modular unit, allowing you to combine different bulbs and filters to meet your
specific application. Your IR75W may include any combination of the following
components:
• An assembled IR75W housing and mounting U-bracket
• Halogen lamp (bulb)
• Rubber filter boot with filter
• Optional power supply
If any parts are missing or damaged, please contact the dealer you purchased the
IR75W from, or call Silent Witness Customer Service. See “Warranty and Service”
on page 8
Note See Specifications on page 9 and IR75W Model Numbers on
page 11 for a description of the component options available.

Installation
The IR75W is weather sealed for indoor or outdoor use. However, for best
performance Silent Witness recommends that the installation be done in dry
conditions.
Caution Do not mount the IR75W on a combustible surface.
Installing the Lamp (Bulb)
1. Remove the front ring by turning it counterclockwise until it is free of the
housing (see Figure 1).
2. Push the new Halogen lamp in until the two-pin fitting is firmly seated.
Take care not to touch the filament glass envelope or the gold reflector
as finger marks reduce lamp life. Silent Witness recommends that you
wear cloth gloves when working with the lamp.
3. Center the front ring over the lamp and turn it clockwise until it is finger tight,
then turn it another 1/4 turn to tighten the ring securely.
4. Place the rubber filter boot over the front ring and push it until the front of the
filter boot rests against the front of the ring.

Replacing the Lamp (Bulb)
The lamp, if used under normal lighting and voltage conditions, should last 4,000
hours at rated voltage. To replace the lamp:
1. Remove the rubber filter boot.
2. Remove the front ring carefully from the housing by turning it
counterclockwise until it is free.
3. Unplug the old lamp (bulb) and discard.
4. Push the new Halogen lamp in until the two-pin fitting is firmly seated. Do not
force the bulb.
Note Take care not to touch the filament glass envelope or the gold
reflector as finger marks reduce lamp life. Silent Witness
recommends that you wear cloth gloves when working with the
lamp.
5. Center the front ring over the lamp and turn it clockwise until it is finger tight,
then turn it another 1/4 turn to tighten the ring securely.
6. Place the rubber filter boot over the front ring and push it until the front of the
filter boot rests against the front of the ring.

Understanding Reflectance
Distances that you can expect to achieve using the IR75W depend on the
performance of the camera’s spectral response and lenses, as well as the reflectivity
of the scene. This illuminator is designed for cameras with sensitivity in the IR
spectrum.
Reflectance is a measure of the percentage of light reflected from a surface (the
balance is absorbed). A bright white surface reflects almost all of the light falling on it
while a deep black reflects less than 1% of the incident light. Some examples of
reflection factors are:
• Snow 85 - 90%
• Concrete 40 - 45%
• Grass 20 - 25%
• Asphalt 5 - 10%

Adjusting the Illuminator
To adjust the Illuminator:
1. Loosen the two screws on the U-bracket.
2. Adjust to the desired pointing angle.
3. Retighten the two screws.

Installing the Optional Power Supply
An optional power supply is available from Silent Witness. Contact your dealer or
Silent Witness to order (See “Warranty and Service” on page 8).
1. Mount the power supply in the desired location.
2. Plug the power cord into a 110V receptacle.
3. Mount the bracket over top of the power supply and secure with four screws
appropriate to your type of installation (see Figure 3).
4. Connect the two-pin waterproof connector into the rear of the IR75W
housing.
5. Slip the security nut over the connector and turn clockwise until it is firmly
seated.
Caution Do not increase or reduce the length of the power supply
cable as this will adversely affect the IR75W voltage
requirement.

Checking the System
After the lamp and power supply are installed, Silent Witness recommends that you
check if the system is working properly.
1. Remove the filter boot.
2. Confirm that the bulb illuminates only when the photocell is covered (for
example, use a piece of black electrical tape).
3. When you are finished, remove the tape from the power supply window.
4. Replace the rubber filter boot.
