General Safety

the tool before use. Keep these instructions with the product for future
reference. Ensure all persons who use this product are fully acquainted
with this manual.
Even when used as prescribed it is not possible to eliminate all residual risk
factors. Use with caution. If you are at all unsure of the correct and safe
manner in which to use this tool, do not attempt to use it.
Keep guards in position
• Where guards exist keep them in position, in good working order,
correctly adjusted and aligned. Never attempt to use a tool if any of
the supplied guards are missing. If any guards are damaged, replace
before use
Remove adjusting keys
• Where adjusting keys exist, ensure they are removed prior to using the
tool. Always check to see that keys and adjusting devices are removed
from the tool before use
Clean the work area

Whenever the machine is out of use for an extended period of time,

Generator Safety
The generator is designed to give safe and reliable service if operated
according to this manual. Read and understand this manual before
operating the generator. You can prevent accidents by familiarising
yourself with the generator's controls and safe operating procedures.
Operator Responsibility

Carbon Monoxide Dangers
•Thegeneratorsexhaustfumescontainpoisonouscarbonmonoxidegas,
which is both colourless and odourless. Breathing the exhaust fumes
can cause loss of consciousness and may lead to death
•Ifthegeneratorisrunninginanenclosedorevenpartiallyenclosed
space, the air could contain dangerous levels of carbon monoxide.
Ensure adequate ventilation to prevent build-up of exhaust fumes

Children and pets

Use the correct tool
• Do not force or attempt to use a tool for a purpose for which it was not
designed. This tool is not intended for industrial use
Wear suitable clothing and footwear
• Do not wear loose fitting clothing, neckties, jewellery, or other
items which may become caught. Wear non-slip footwear or, where
appropriate, footwear with protective toe caps. Long hair should be
covered or tied back
Keep your balance
• Do not over-reach. Keep proper footing at all times and do not use tools
when standing on an unstable surface
Accessories
• The use of any attachment or accessory, other than those mentioned in
this manual, could be dangerous and result in damage or injury, and may
invalidate your warranty
Never stand on your tool
• Standing on your tool or its stand could cause serious injury if the tool
is tipped or collapses. Do not store materials above or close to the tool
in such a way that a person might stand on the tool to reach the stored
items
Secure work
• Where possible, always secure work. If appropriate, use a clamp or vice
so that both hands are free to operate the tool
Check for damaged or missing parts
• Beforeeachuse,checkifanypartofthetoolisdamagedormissing.
Carefully check that it will operate properly and perform its intended
function. Check alignment of moving parts for binding. Any guard or other
part that is damaged should be immediately repaired or replaced by an

vicinity are also suitably protected
Switch off before connecting
•Ensuretheenginehasstoppedbeforeconnectinganyaccessoriesto
the tool. If the tool stops working unexpectedly ensure the engine is not
running before attempting to check the tool
Running in the engine
•Whenthetoolisnewonlyruntheengineatmoderatespeed
•Donotmaintainhighenginespeeduntiltheengineisfullyrunin
•Theenginewillnotbecapableofdevelopingmaximumpoweruntilthe
end of the running in period
•Whenrstusingthetool,stopandmakesurethatallnutsandscrews
are securely fastened and tighten them as necessary

internal damage to the fuel tank and fuel lines

Fire and Burn Dangers
•Theexhaustsystemgetsveryhotduringoperation.Itwillgethot
enough to ignite some materials. Ensure the generator is at least
1 metre away from buildings and other equipment during operation. Do
not enclose the generator in any structure. Keep flammable materials
away from the generator
•Theexhaustbecomesveryhotduringoperationandremainshotfor
a considerable length of time even after the generator is switched off.
Do not touch the exhaust when it is hot, let the generator cool down to
ambient temperature before storing it indoors
•Petrolisextremelyammableandpotentiallyexplosiveundercertain
circumstances. Do not smoke. Do not allow sparks or flames where
the generator is refuelled or where petrol is stored. Refuel in a well-
ventilated area with the engine switched off
Unpacking Your Tool
• Carefully unpack and inspect your tool. Fully familiarise yourself with all
its features and functions
• Ensure that all parts of the tool are present and in good condition. If
any parts are missing or damaged, have such parts replaced before
attempting to use this tool
Included with the tool are:

Preparing the Generator
• Ensure all parts of the Generator are present and in good condition.
If any part is missing, or damaged, contact your retailer and have the
parts replaced before attempting to use this tool
Filling with engine oil
•IMPORTANT: The Generator will be supplied without engine oil. Filling
and checking the engine oil level should always be done before use

Operating the Generator
•EnsuretheGeneratorisonrm,levelground,preparedasdescribed
in this manual
Fuelling
•Alwaysrefuelinasafeplace,wellawayfromtheworkareaandany
source of heat or ignition. Avoid any contact with the fuel
•Onlyaddfuelwhentheengineisstoppedandhascooledfully
•RemoveFuelTankCap(19)andllwithfuel,seespecication
•Storesparefuelinasuitablecontainer.(SilverlineToolsproduct
497251)
Starting the Generator
1. Set Fuel Tap (13) to ON
2. Set Choke Lever (12)
NOTE – Choke should only be ON if the engine is COLD.
CHECK the exhaust area is clear of obstruction and flammable materials.
It will get hot quickly.
3. Turn Ignition Switch (2) to ON
4. Firmly pull Starter Handle (14 & Fig. E) until the engine starts
NOTE – After each pull of the Starter Handle (14) control its return.
DO NOT allow it to snap back towards the Generator
5. The engine will run at a fast idle, allow it to do this for 20 - 30
seconds
6. Slowly reduce the amount of Choke (12) as the engine warms up
Stopping the Generator
1. Turn off any connected items
2. Turn AC Switch (5) to OFF
3. Allow engine to run at idle speed for 30 seconds
4. Turn Ignition Switch (2) to OFF position
5. Turn Fuel Tap (13) to OFF position
6. Allow the Generator and engine to cool fully before attempting to
move, or carrying out any cleaning and maintenance

Earthing the Generator
• It is strongly recommended that this generator is earthed. The generator
MUST be earthed when using devices that require an earth connection
in their plug
• To earth the generator, connect a 10 mm2insulated copper wire to the
generator's Earth Point (9) and to an earthing rod of galvanised steel, set
in the ground to a depth of 1 metre
Operating the Generator
1. Always start and allow the generator to warm up for a minimum
of 5 minutes before using the AC outputs. This will improve fuel
efficiency and reduce wear, increasing the service life of your
product
2. Ensure the AC Switch (5) is set to OFF
3. Plug your powered device into the correct Socket (6 or 8)
4. Move the Output Switch (7) towards the chosen Socket
5. Move the AC Switch (5) to ON
6. Observe the Voltmeter (4) to check the output voltage is correct for
the device attached
7. When the connected device is switched on, it is normal for the
generator engine to change speed
Cleaning and Maintenance
• Only clean when Generator has fully cooled down
• Use a mild soapy solution and a stiff brush
• Rinse with clean water
• Dry as thoroughly as possible – parts of this product will corrode if
left wet
• Only carry out maintenance when the Generator has fully cooled down
• Maintenance should be adjusted according to use and environment.
Generally, the more use and/or the harsher the environment, the more
frequent the maintenance
Cleaning the air filter element
1. Remove the two screws at the top and bottom of the Air Filter Cover
(10) and gently pull the cover off
2. Remove Air Filter (11), noting which way around it faces
3. Wash the air filter in a suitable fluid (available from most garden
machinery retailers)
4. Replace the air filter by reversing this procedure
Replacing and adjusting the spark plug
1. Pull the ignition lead off the Spark Plug (16) Fig. C
2. Unscrew the Spark Plug (16) using the socket supplied
3. Adjust the gap (see specification) using a feeler gauge. Clean using
a wire brush OR replace using a recommended spark plug (see
specification)
4. Replace spark plug and tighten firmly with the socket and bar NOTE:
be careful not to cross or overtighten the threads
5. Refit ignition lead
Changing the engine oil
1. Start and run the engine for around 2 minutes to warm the oil, then
switch off
2. Place the generator above a large oil draining bowl (Silverline tools
recommend product 675089) Make sure the Drain Plug (26) is above
the centre of the bowl
3. Using a 10mm socket and long extension, undo (anticlockwise) the
Drain Plug (26)
4. Allow the oil to drain fully for a minimum of 10 minutes
5. Tip the generator a little to get all of the waste oil out
6. Replace the Drain Plug (26) and tighten firmly with a ratchet
7. To replace the oil, see Preparing the Generator
8. Contact your local waste facility for advice about disposal of waste
engine oil
Storage
•Becarefulnottohitorcutthefueltank,orfuellines,whentheunitis
placed on the ground
•Donotletthetoolfall,oritmaybedamagedandbecomeunsafe
•Whenyounishworking,cleantheunitthoroughly
•Inspecttheentireunitandtubesfordamage,includinglooseormissing

mould
•Useasmallbrushtocleanofftheoutsideoftheunitandkeeptheair
vents free from obstructions. Do not use water or a hose to clean the
unit
•Ensurethatfuelandoilisstoredinasafeplace,awayfromheat,direct
sunlight, any source of ignition, and out of reach of children
Storage for an extended period:
Whenever the machine is out of use for an extended period of time,
proceed as follows:
•Givetheunitanoverallcleaningandathoroughcheck
•Emptythefueltankcompletely,thencleanthecarburettorandlinesby
running the tool until it stops from lack of fuel
•Protectallmetalenginepartsfromcorrosionbycoatingthemwithoil
•Removethesparkplug,putseveraldropsofoilintothecylinderthrough
the spark plug hole and then pull the recoil starter 2 to 3 times in order
to distribute the oil evenly. Replace the spark plug and spark plug lead
•Cleantheairlterasdescribedintheairltersection
Troubleshooting
Power loss or sudden engine cut-out
•Checkwhetherthefueltankisempty
•Checkifthereiswaterinthemixture.Drainandrinsethefuelsystem
with petrol

Starting a flooded engine
1. Disconnect the spark plug lead and use a spark plug wrench to
remove the spark plug by turning it anticlockwise
2. If the spark plug is fouled or is soaked with fuel, clean or replace the
plug as required
3. Clean excess fuel from the combustion chamber by cranking the
engine several times while the spark plug is removed
4. Install the spark plug and firmly tighten it with the spark plug wrench
5. Repeat the starting procedure as if the engine was already warm
Disposal
• Do not dispose of power tools, or other waste electrical and electronic
equipment, with household waste
• Contact your local waste disposal authority for information on the correct
way to dispose of tools
