YoumustneversettheCS90tonormaloperationwhentheshipisindrydock.The
transducermaybedamagedifittransmitsinopenair.Topreventinadvertentuseofthe
CS90,pulloutthemainsplugontheProcessorUnitwheneveryourvesselisindrydock.
Additionalprecautionarymeasurersshouldbeconsidered.

Manualoperationofthehullunit
Intheeventofimproperoperation,thepowerfulelectricmotoronthehullunitmay
causeseriousdamagetotheequipmentand/orinjurytopersonnel.Therefore,beforeyou
startmanualoperation,readcarefullythroughtherelevantoperatingprocedures.
Note
Youmustfamiliarizeyourselfwiththecorrecthandlingmethodsandtherelevantsafety
requirements.
Rulesfortransducerhandling
Atransducermustalwaysbehandledasadelicateinstrument.Incorrectactionsmay
damagethetransducerbeyondrepair.Aphysicalblowtothetransducerfacemayeasily
damageoneormoreelements.Observethesetransducerhandlingrules:
•Donotactivatethetransducerwhenitisoutofthewater.
•Donothandlethetransducerroughlyandavoidimpacts.
•Donotexposethetransducertodirectsunlightorexcessiveheat.
•Donotdamagetheouterprotectiveskinofthetransducer.

Systemdescription
TheSimradCS90isanomnidirectionalhighfrequencyshndingsonar.
TheCS90isdesignedforshingvesselsofallsizes,bothpurseseinersandtrawlers.
Thecentreoperationalfrequencyis86kHz,butyoucanselectanyoperationalfrequency
from70to90kHzinstepsof1kHz.Thecylindricalmulti-elementtransducerallows
theomnidirectionalsonarbeamstobetiltedelectronicallyfrom-10to+84degrees.
Thisallowsyoutoautomaticallytrackschoolsofsh,andtoobservethewholewater
volumearoundthevessel.Astabilizingsystemisincludedforelectronicpitchand
rollcompensation.
TheCS90providesanumberofstandardinterfacelinesforcommunicationwith
peripheraldevicesandsensors.Typicalinputsaregeographicalinformationfroma
positioningsystem,vesselspeedandcurrentheading.Bydefault,theCS90usesa
built-inmotionsensor.Forimprovedoperationalaccuracy,anexternalmotionreference
unit(MRU)canbeconnected.
TheCS90offersthesameuserinterfaceandoperatingsoftwareasourothersonars,
echosoundersandcatchmonitoringsystems.Thisenableseasierandfastertraining
ofnewusers.
•TheCS90echopresentationsareoptimizedformultipledisplays.Providedthatyou
haveconnectedadditionaldisplaystoyourProcessorUnit,youcanusetheDocking
Viewsfunctiontotakeanysonarviewandplaceitonaseparatedisplay.Whenyou
moveaviewtoanotherdisplay,itwillautomaticallybescaledforthebestpossible
result.
•Itiscommonforsonarstorequiremanypingstobuildthevariousviewsintheecho
presentation.OntheCS90,allthesonarviewsinthepresentationarebuiltusing
theechoesfromonesingleping.Thisdramaticallyimprovestheupdaterateand
providesbetterreal-timeinformation.
•TheCS90permitsyoutorecordreal-timesonarsituations.Thisallowsyoutoreplay
completesequences.Theplaybackcontainstheexactsameechoinformation,andcan
beusedformissionhistory,trainingortroubleshootingpurposes.
•Thetrackingfunctionhasbeenimproved.Itcannowuseechoinformationfromboth
thehorizontalandverticaltransmissions.
Greatemphasishasbeenplacedonanintuitiveuserinterfaceandthebestpossiblesonar
presentationsonahighresolutioncolourdisplay.
TheCS90isequippedwiththecelebratedsignalprocessingsoftwaredevelopedby
KongsbergMaritime.ThisincludesHyperbolicFM(HFM)transmissions.Thispulse

Thisequipmentmustbeservicedonlybyqualiedpersonnelfamiliarwiththe
constructionandoperationoftheCS90,aswellasthepotentialhazardsinvolved.
Failuretoobservethisprecautioncouldresultinbodilyinjury.

adjustedtocompensateforthemovementsofyourvessel.
