1. SmartAVI warrants to the end–user customers that SmartAVI product specified
above will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the duration of 1
year, which duration begins on the date of purchase by the customer. Customer is
responsible for maintaining proof of date of purchase.
2. SmartAVI limited warranty covers only those defects which arise as a result of nor-
mal use of the product, and do not apply to any:
a. Improper or inadequate maintenance or modifications
b. Operations outside product specifications
c. Mechanical abuse and exposure to severe conditions
3. If SmartAVI receives during applicable warranty period notice of defect SmartAVI
will at its discretion replace or repair defective product. If SmartAVI is unable to
replace or repair defective product covered by the SmartAVI warranty within rea-
sonable period of time SmartAVI shall refund the cost of the product.
4. SmartAVI shall have no obligation to repair, replace or refund unit until customer
returns defective product to SmartAVI.
5. Any replacement product could be new or like new, provided that it has functional-
ity at least equal to that of the product being replaced.
6. SmartAVI’s limited warranty is valid in any country where the covered product is
distributed by SmartAVI.

There are situations when a PC needs to be located in a different area than the
user. Common reasons for this requirement are security considerations, physical
space limitations, computer unfriendly environmental concerns, convenience, and
working environment noise reduction.
The SX-500 is a combination of transmitter and receiver devices designed to allow
access to the PC from a keyboard, mouse, and monitor at a remote location up to
1000 ft. away. The extension is accomplished over a single CAT5 cable.
The SX500 also allows a serial connection to be extended along with the KVM.
The product consists of a transmitter unit that connects to your computer and a
receiver that connects to the remote Keyboard, Monitor and Mouse.

Start installation process by ensuring that all video displays and audio devices are
compatible with the computers. This is accomplished by connecting the devices
directly to the computer (bypassing the SX-500) and checking that the devices
operate as desired.
If they operate as desired, they should function properly when connected to the
SX-500.
If the device does not operate as desired when connected directly to the computer,
something is wrong with the device, NOT the SX-500 unit since it is not yet
connected.

The SX500 transmits and receives RS232 signals, the signals sent and received are
txd, rxd and ground
You can use a standard DB9 serial cable to connect your serial device.
The system is capable of supporting baud rate from 300 up to 57.6K.
The SX-500 transmitter/receiver pair extends any RS232 signal up to 1000 ft. over
CAT5, CAT5e, or CAT6 FTP, UTP or STP cable.

Note: This product does not support FULL RS232 communication. The 3 signals
that are supported with the RS232 communication are “Transmission Data,
Received Data, and Signal Ground”. The signals “Clear to Send, Request to Send,
DCE Ready, and DTE Ready” are not supported in this unit.

The SX-500 utilizes category 5 (CAT5), unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable to
transport signal between transmitter and receiver.
This cable is used for LAN applications and is found in abundance, already installed,
in many buildings. The category 5 is a standard which establishes minimum
requirements for telecommunications cabling within a commercial building. The
standard covers various aspects of wiring including telecommunications outlets.

On the bottom of the Receiver you will notice 2 small dials. These dials are not
labeled. Assuming that you are holding the unit with these two dials towards the
top, they will be called left and right dial accordingly.
You can adjust each of the dials using a small flat head screwdriver.
Load an application you intend to use that requires a high screen resolution (such
as a Windows or word processor program). If the video is under-compensated,
you will notice a black smearing on the right-hand edge of large horizontal objects
such as title bars. The degradation becomes more noticeable as length increases.
1. Look at a point on the monitor where the smearing is evident. Now rotate
the ‘EQ’ (left) dial clockwise until the smearing disappears and the edge
becomes very bright and sharp. At this point and beyond the video is over-
compensated.
2. Rotate the ‘EQ’ dial back slightly until you reach a point where the edge
looks as it should be (no smearing or over sharpness). The compensation is
now adjusted correctly for the length of the interconnection cable being used.
3. The ‘GAIN’ (right) dial is used to adjust the brightness of the overall picture.
After adjusting this dial to suit, the ‘EQ’ control may need a very slight
readjustment.

1. Connect the video out, and audio out from your computer into the
transmitter.
2. Connect the keyboard and mouse ports on your computer to the
transmitter using the supplied PS/2 cables.
3. Connect a power adapter to the transmitter and also to the receiver.
4. Optional - Connect the RS232 on your computer to the RS232 port on the
transmitter unit.
5. Connect a CAT5 cable to the transmitter and run it over to the receiver.
6. Connect peripherals to the receiver. I.E. keyboard, mouse, monitor, and
optionally a serial device.
Once everything is connected power on your computer and the SX-500 unit.

1. Connect the 12 Volt power supply to the transmitter
2. Turn the system on by plugging in the power adapter, if it is not yet connected.
3. Power up your computer.
4. Observe to see if both transmitter and receiver power LEDs are ON, and
computer has finished the boot up process.
5. Observe monitor at receiver end to see if signal is going through.
Before you power up, ensure that all cables are properly connected as shown in
the diagram below.

1. Use the supplied PS/2 cables (male to male) to connect the keyboard and
mouse ports from the computer into their respective ports on the SX-TX500.
2. Use a 3.5 mm Stereo Miniplug (male to male) to connect the audio out from
your computer into the audio connector on the SX-TX500.
3. Connect the Video OUT from your computer into the Video IN connection
on the SX-TX500 using the supplied VGA cable (male to female) IOI
4. Connect the CAT5 cable that will connect to the Receiver Unit in the remote
location.
5. Connect the external power supply to the DC IN connection.

1. Connect your remote keyboard and mouse to the Keyboard-Mouse input
porton the receiver.
2. Connect external speakers to the Audio OUT connection on the receiver.
3. Connect external monitor to the VGA Output on the receiver.
4. Connect the CAT5 cable coming from the transmitter.
5. Connect an external power supply to the DC IN connection.
