SmartDisk FireLite User manual

SmartDisk’s "drive for perfec-
tion" is built into our new line
of FireLite™portable external
hard drives. Palm-sized, durable
and stylish with outstanding perform-
ance, FireLite drives offer a unique combi-
nation of features we call "FLARE™" technolo-
gy. FLARE means FireLite offers you the ultimate
in a convenient, highly portable data storage solu-
tion. FireLite combines all of the best features of
today’s hard drive designs in one attractive pack-
age. Quite simply, FireLite gives you quality with-
out compromise.
What Is FLARE?
Don’t settle for a portable hard drive that’s bulky,
slow, constructed of inexpensive plastics, noisy or
cumbersome to transport. FireLite FireWire drives
with FLARE technology give you a sleek, compact,
attractive drive case wrapped around top-quality
design concepts, materials and engineering. These
are the elements of the FLARE technology that’s
built into every SmartDisk FireLite FireWire drive:
• Optimum performance "engine." FireLite
FireWire drives feature a unique combination
of software and hardware to help you get the
best possible performance. When a typical
FireWire hard disk receives a read or write
request for an odd-sized piece of data, it stores
the data to a buffer and performs complicated
operations to resize it. FireLite FireWire drives
eliminate this process by ensuring that all data
is correctly sized and aligned – before the data
is sent to the drive. By eliminating the need to
send data to a buffer, FireLite FireWire drives
allow for a shorter, optimized data pipeline
that won’t clog up even under the heaviest use.
• Unique alloy housing. FireLite’s diminutive size
and weight are made possible through the use
of magnesium alloy for the drive’s housing –
by weight, one of the strongest materials on the
planet. Its thermal dissipation properties also
help to wick away heat, increasing performance
and drive longevity.

• No power cord needed. Just connect FireLite to
any six-pin FireWire port and it’s ready to
transfer your files at blazing speeds. No sepa-
rate power cord required!
• Attractive and functional illuminated logo.
FireLite drives feature a blue "brow" logo that
lights when the drive is connected; it turns off
when it’s safe to unplug FireLite. No more
frustrating OS hang-ups or data loss from
improper disconnects!
• Exclusive "air mount" design floats the internal
drive mechanism in a cushion of protective air.
This minimizes the potential for damage to or
loss of data from mechanical shock if you
bump or drop your FireLite.
FireLite drives are available in capacities of 20
Gigabytes (GB), 30 GB and 40 GB. FireLite’s out-
standing performance, engineered durability and
radical good looks are sure to satisfy your data
storage needs in the office, at home or on the road.
