After unpacking the EZ Networking™ USB to 10/100 Mbps
Ethernet Adapter, check the contents of the box to be sure you
have received the following components:
•SMC2208USB/ETH USB to 10/100 Mbps
Ethernet Adapter
•Quick Installation Guide
•CD containing: EZ Installation Wizard and
Documentation CD
Immediately inform your dealer in the event of any incorrect,
missing or damaged parts. If possible, please retain the carton
and original packing materials in case there is a need to return
the product.

To install and connect to the SMC2208USB/ETH, you must have:
•An available USB port
•Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, Linux kernel v2.4
or later versions, Mac 9.X & 10.X
•A minimum of 1 MB of free disk space

SMC's family of USB products offers a convenient and cost-
effective means of bringing straightforward peripheral connectivity
to the desktop based on the Universal Serial Bus (USB). These
products feature true plug-and-play connection of PC peripherals
"outside the box" and mark a significant advance in desktop cable
management. Using the EZ Networking™ USB to Ethernet
Converter you can simplify PC connections in the home, office, or
on the road.
The SMC2208USB/ETH USB to 10/100 Mbps Ethernet adapter
product supports Plug-and-Play and is easy to install. The included
EZ Installation Wizard makes driver/utility installation a breeze.
The USB to 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Adapter is bus-powered, hence,
it draws power from the USB port of the host PC and requires no
external power supply. Simply plug in this new SMC2208USB/ETH,
which uses Type A USB port, to your Laptop/Desktop's USB port
and connect a Category 5 cable to the RJ-45 connector. You are
now ready to connect and access network resources.

NOTE: Installation processes such as this may require the use of your
original, licensed copy of Windows. Please have your Windows CD
available BEFORE proceeding with the installation.
You may find the screen shots here do not exactly match your version.
This is because the screen shots were created from Windows XP. Steps
for Windows 98/ME/2000 are similar, but not identical to Windows XP.
This Installation method makes the process as simple and Plug-and-Play
as possible. Simply run the driver/utility program and insert your EZ
Networking™ USB to 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Adapter. It's as easy as
1-2-3.

3. Insert the SMC2208USB/ETH (the A-type connector) into the USB
port on your PC. The system will display the "Found New Hardware
Wizard" dialog box. Select "Install the software automatically
(Recommended)" and insert the driver CD and click the "Next"
button.
4. Windows XP will search and recognize the driver. Windows will
automatically copy the driver files and related files into the system.
After copying the driver files, the installation is completed. Click the
"Finish" button.
5. Connect RJ-45 cable to RJ-45 connector of USB to 10/100Mbps
Ethernet Adapter. The network function is now ready.
1. Insert the EZ Installation Wizard and Documentation CD.
2. Click the [Install Driver] button to continue.
