About This Guide
Overview
The SBC 5200 Hardware Installation Guide describes the steps involved in
mounting the SBC 5200 supplied by Sonus Networks into a rack, connecting
power to the chassis, connecting cable to 5200 ports and powering up the
platform in preparation for installating the software. For more information, refer to
SBC 5x00 Software Installation Guide.
Audience
This document is intended for use by the Network Engineers to prepare the SBC
5200 Platform for the hardware installation.

What’s in This Guide
This guide is classified into the following chapters:
Chapter 1, "Hardware Installation Overview": Provides an overview of the SBC
5200 hardware as well as safety warnings, site planning requirements and port
descriptions.
Chapter 2, "Hardware Installation Procedure": Provides an overview on how to
rack-mount SBC 5200, connect power, network cables, and power up the
platform.
Appendix "Site Preparation Checklist": Provides an overview on pre- and post
installation checklist to aid in the hardware installation. Complete the pre-
installation checklist prior to installing SBC 5200.

Sonus 5200 Overview
Sonus SBC 5200 provide enterprises and service providers with the features,
performance, reliability and future proofing capacity to meet their needs. The SBC
5200 can be deployed as peering SBCs, access SBCs or enterprise-SBCs (e-
SBCs). They have been interoperability and performance tested against a variety
of third party products and call flow configurations in the customer networks.
This platform targets medium to large session count deployments (1000 to
64000). These capacities make this product particularly well suited for large
enterprises and medium to large service providers.
Tab le 1 – 1 lists the key differences between SBC 5100 and SBC 5200.
Figure 1–1 and Figure 1–2 depict the front and the rear views of the SBC 5200
Platform.

Chassis
The chassis provides an enclosure to support the individually installed
components. The chassis accommodates three types of modules:
•A motherboard
•One optional DSP Base card used for providing media services such as
transcoding
•Upto two optional DSP Expansion cards
Attributes
The chassis must be installed in adherence with the environmental specifications
and power source requirements listed in the appendix "Site Preparation Checklist"
on page A–1.

Safety and Regulatory Information
Compliance Model Number
The Compliance Model Number for Sonus SBC 5200 is SONSW-1201. The
compliance model number is assigned for regulatory compliance certifications
and identification.
The complaince model number is available on the product label along with the
required approval markings and information. Refer to this product compliance
model number while requesting for certification information for this product.
WARNING
Read and observe all Notes, Cautions, and Warnings before beginning
the hardware installation of the SBC 5200 Platform.
CAUTION
1) The power unit should be connected to the protective earth ground
before it is connnected to the chassis.
2) Disconnect all the input power sources to disconnect power from the
unit.
3) This unit is provided with AC or DC power cords depending on
the customer requirement.
Safety Standards
SBC 5200 complies with the following standards, and is listed with TUV SUD
America:
•IEC/EN60950-1: 2005 2nd Ed + A1:2009
•EN 60950-1:2006/A11:2009/A1:2010

installing the SBC 5200 Platform.
Refer to the appendix "Site Preparation Checklist" on page A–1, for a site
evaluation and preparation checklist.
