Flash
Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit dierent from that to which the
receiver is connected.
Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

This unit is not dust-proof, splash-proof or waterproof.
Do not place this unit in the following locations
Regardless of whether this unit is in use or in storage, do not place it in any of
the following locations. Doing so may lead to a malfunction.
Placing this unit in locations subject to direct sunlight such as on dashboards or
near a heater may cause this unit to deform or malfunction.
Locations with excessive vibration
Locations with strong electromagnetism
Locations with excessive sand
In locations such as the seashore and other sandy areas or where dust clouds occur,
protect this unit from sand and dust. is may lead to a malfunction.

Preparation
Inserting batteries
Install batteries in this unit and then attach this unit to your camera.
Use either of the following battery pairs:
Two AAA alkaline batteries
Two AAA nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries
Batteries are not included.
1 Set the shoe POWER switch to OFF.
Default: ON
2 Press the battery compartment cover in the direction illustrated
to open it.
3 Insert the batteries into the battery compartment as marked
inside.
Make sure the batteries are installed correctly.
4 Close the cover.
Do the reverse procedure to open the cover.
Notes
Be careful not to pinch your ngers when opening and closing the battery
compartment cover. Careless handling may cause injury.
Checking batteries
e POWER lamp of this unit lights up red when the batteries are low.
If neither the CHG lamp nor the POWER lamp lights up when the shoe POWER
switch is set to [ON], check if the batteries are installed correctly. If the batteries are
installed correctly but the lamps still do not light up, replace the batteries.
Attaching this unit to your camera and turning it on
Remove the connector protect cap and make sure the lock ring is not locked.
Make sure the camera is switched o.
1 Turn this unit on.
When you ip this unit up until it clicks, it turns on and the POWER lamp lights
up.
To turn this unit o, ip it down. (see illustration -1)
is unit may touch some models of camera or interchangeable lens when it is
turned o.
2 Make sure the built-in ash of your camera is in the down
position.
If your camera has a built-in ash and the ash is in the up position, return it to
the down position.
3 Insert the Multi Interface foot of this unit all the way into the Multi
Interface Shoe of your camera in the direction of the arrow.
4 Turn the lock ring to lock this unit in place.
Do not turn the lock ring with excessive force.
To remove this unit, perform the above steps in reverse.
e lock ring does not lock automatically. Turning the lock ring with force may
unlock it.
5 Turn your camera on.
Power save
If you do not operate your camera or this unit for more than 1 minute aer your
camera has entered the power save state, this unit automatically turns o to save
power, and the POWER lamp and CHG lamp turn o.
is unit also enters the power save state when you set the POWER switch of
your camera to [OFF] (with all Sony digital single lens reex cameras except the
DSLR-A100).
To exit the power saving state, turn this unit back on or operate your camera.
Shooting
1 Make sure that your camera and this unit are turned on.
2 Set your camera to the desired shooting mode.
Refer to the operating instructions of y our camera for shooting modes.
When you set your camera to shutter speed priority (S) mode or manual exposure
(M) mode, you cannot select a shutter speed faster than the ash sync speed*.
* Flash sync speed is the maximum shutter speed that you can use with a ash.
3 After charging of this unit is completed, press the shutter button
to shoot a subject.
When charging is completed, the CHG lamp of this unit turns amber.
When the proper exposure can again be obtained aer shooting, the CHG lamp
blinks amber.
Notes
If you shoot before charging is completed, you may not be able to get enough
lighting (under exposure).
When using the ash in self-timer shooting, make sure that charging is completed
before pressing the shutter button.
When your camera is in auto ash mode, the ash may not re depending on the
lighting conditions.
Overheat protection
Overheat protection is a function for protecting this unit from overheating. If this unit
gets warm when used in continuous ash mode or in a hot environment, ash ring is
automatically disabled.
When overheating is detected, the POWER lamp blinks in red at one-second
intervals.
Flash ring cannot be re-enabled until this unit cools down.
When this unit is in an overheated state, leave it without any operation for 10
minutes to cool down.
BOUNCE Switch
If you re a ash directly at a subject just in front of a wall, harsh shadows appear on
the wall.
When shooting in a room with a low ceiling, you can soen these shadows by setting
the BOUNCE switch to [BOUNCE] so that the ashtube of this unit tilts upward and
emits light at the ceiling. Light reects o the ceiling and illuminates the subject to
produce a so-lit image.
In outdoor shooting, setting the BOUNCE switch to [DIRECT] lets you illuminate a
subject at a distance that a built-in ash cannot reach.
BOUNCE: the ashtube is set at 75 degrees upward (bounce ash)
DIRECT: the ashtube is set at 0 degrees (direct ash)
Slide the BOUNCE switch to the desired position.

If a subject is too far to be reached by the ash from this unit (the subject is out of
ash range), set the TELE switch of this unit to [Tele position] (see illustration -B).
e ash from this unit can now reach a further range.
Notes
Set the TELE switch to [Standard position] (see illustration-A) for regular
shooting.
If the lens angle is wider than the selected ash angle, the outer areas of the image
may become dark. See “Zoom ash range” for the ash range of each position.
e TELE switch is enabled only when the BOUNCE switch is set to [DIRECT].
If this unit is attached to a camera with a built-in ash that operates as an AF
illuminator, AF accuracy may be greatly reduced in night view shooting.
Wireless Control
You can attach this unit to a compatible camera and use it as a wireless controller
for an o-camera ash. An o-camera ash means a ash positioned away from the
camera that is being use for shooting.
In this manual, a ash attached to the camera is referred to as a controller and a ash
used separately from the camera is referred to as an o-camera ash.
1 Connect this unit to your camera, and set the power switches of
your camera, o-camera ash and this unit to [ON].
2 Set the mode of your camera and o-camera ash as follows.
Camera:
Set the mode to [Wireless].
Refer to the operating instructions of your camera for details.
O-camera ash:
Set the o-camera ash to [Wireless remote mode] and the wireless channel to
[CH1]. Refer to the operating instructions of your o-camera ash for details.
3 Set your camera and o-camera ash.
Refer to the operating instructions of your o-camera ash for how to set it.
4 Make sure the o-camera ash and this unit are fully charged.
5 Fire a test ash to check the o-camera ash.
e ash test diers depending on the camera. Refer to the operating
instructions of your camera.
If your o-camera ash does not re, change the position of your camera, o-
camera ash and the subject and try a test ash again.
6 Make sure that this unit and your o-camera ash are charged,
and press the shutter button fully down to shoot.
Notes
is unit cannot be used as an o-camera ash.
Lighting ratio control setting (RATIO) is not available.
Maintenance
Remove this unit from your camera and wipe it with a dry so cloth. Lightly blow
any sand o this unit. Scrubbing it before blowing sand o may scratch the surface of
this unit. To remove stains, wipe them o with a cloth lightly dampened with a mild
detergent, and then wipe the unit clean with a dry so cloth. Never use strong solvents
such as thinner or benzine, otherwise the surface nish will be damaged.

Notes on Use
During shooting
Do not re the ash directly in front of someone’s eyes. It produces strong light.
Do not re the ash 20 or more times in succession. Doing so can cause
overheating and deterioration of this unit and its batteries.
If you re the ash a certain number of times in succession, leave it to cool down
naturally for at least 10 minutes.
Do not carry your camera by holding this unit when it is attached. Always hold the
camera itself.
Do not carry the camera in a bag etc. with this unit attached. Doing so may damage
the camera or this unit.
When changing the shoe POWER switch to the [OFF] position, be careful not to
catch your nger in the hinge. It may cause injury.
Batteries
e displayed battery level may be lower than the actual battery capacity depending
on the temperature and storage conditions. e displayed level usually becomes
accurate aer you use this unit a few times.
e output of Nickel-metal hydride batteries drops suddenly when the batteries
become low. You may not be able to use this unit soon aer the POWER lamp turns
red.
e frequency and number of ashes of this unit may be dierent from those
shown in the specication table even when new batteries are installed, depending
on their date of production.
Turn the power o and wait several minutes before removing the batteries. Be
careful when touching the batteries because they may be hot, depending on the
battery type and conditions of use.
Remove and store the batteries if you do not intend to use this unit for a long time.
Temperature
e operating temperature range of this unit is between 0 °C and 40 °C.
Do not expose this unit to extremely high temperatures (e.g. in direct sunlight
inside a vehicle) or high humidity.
A drastic temperature change may cause condensation inside this unit. When
bringing this unit from a cold place such as a ski slope to a warm place, rst put
it in a plastic bag, remove the air from the bag and seal it. Aer bringing it to the
warm place, leave it for a while until it reaches room temperature and then remove
it from the bag.
Battery output decreases as temperature decreases. When using in a cold
environment, use new batteries or prepare spare batteries kept warm and use them
interchangeably with another set. e POWER lamp may temporarily turn red in
a cold environment even though the batteries still have remaining capacity. If the
battery output becomes low due to low temperature, leave the batteries indoors
until they reach room temperature. e battery output will return to normal.
is unit is not waterproof. When using this unit on a beach, be sure to keep it
away from water or sand. Any water, sand, dust, or salt remaining in this unit may
cause a malfunction.

interchangeable lens digital camera that has a Multi Interface Shoe (referred to below
as “camera”).

Préparatifs
Mise en place des piles
Mettez les piles dans cet appareil puis xez celui-ci sur l’appareil photo.
Utilisez un des jeux de piles suivants :
Deux piles alcalines AAA
Deux piles nickel-métal hydrure (Ni-MH) AAA
Les piles ne sont pas fournies.
1 Mettez le commutateur POWER du sabot sur « OFF ».
Défaut : ON
2 Appuyez sur le couvercle du logement des piles dans le sens
indiqué sur l’illustration pour l’ouvrir.
3 Insérez les piles dans le logement de piles de la manière indiquée
à l’intérieur.
Assurez-vous que les piles sont installées correctement.
4 Fermez le couvercle.
Procédez de façon inverse à l’ouverture du couvercle.
Remarques
Faites attention à ne pas vous coincer les doigts lorsque vous ouvrez ou fermez le
couvercle du logement des piles. Vous pourriez vous blesser.
Vérication des piles
Le témoin POWER de cet appareil s’éclaire en rouge lorsque les piles sont faibles.
Si ni le témoin CHG ni le témoin POWER ne s’éclairent quand l’interrupteur
POWER de grie est réglé sur [ON], vériez si les piles sont installées
correctement. Si les piles sont installées correctement alors que les témoins ne
s’allument toujours pas, remplacez les piles.

sous tension
Déposez le capuchon de protection de connecteur et assurez-vous que la bague de
verrouillage n’est pas verrouillée.
Assurez-vous que l’appareil photo est bien éteint.
1 Mettez cet appareil sous tension.
Lorsque vous relevez cet appareil jusqu’au déclic, il se met sous tension et le témoin
POWER s’éclaire.
Pour mettre cet appareil hors tension, rabattez-le. (voir l’illustration -1)
Cet appareil peut toucher certains modèles d’appareil photo ou d’objectif
interchangeable lorsqu’il est hors tension.
2 Assurez-vous que le ash intégré de votre appareil photo est
rétracté.
Si votre appareil photo a un ash intégré et que celui-ci est ouvert, fermez-le.
3 Insérez le sabot multi-interface de cet appareil à fond dans la
grie multi-interface de votre appareil photo dans le sens de la
èche.
4 Tournez la bague de verrouillage pour bloquer cet appareil.
Ne forcez pas lorsque vous tournez la bague de verrouillage.
Pour détacher cet appareil, procédez en sens inverse.
La bague de verrouillage ne se verrouille pas automatiquement. Si vous forcez
lorsque vous bloquez la bague de verrouillage elle se débloquera.
5 Mettez votre appareil photo sous tension.
Économie d’énergie
Si vous ne faites pas fonctionner votre appareil photo ou cet appareil pendant
plus de 1 minute après la mise en veille de l’appareil photo, cet appareil se mettra
automatiquement hors tension pour économiser l’énergie et les témoins POWER et
CHG s’éteindront.
Cet appareil se met également en veille lorsque vous réglez l’interrupteur POWER
de votre appareil photo sur [OFF] (avec tous les appareils photo numériques reex à
objectifs interchangeables Sony, sauf le DSLR-A100).
Pour sortir de l’état de veille, remettez cet appareil sous tension ou faites fonctionner
votre appareil photo.
Prise de vue
1 Assurez-vous que votre appareil photo et cet appareil sont sous
tension.
2 Mettez votre appareil photo dans le mode de prise de vue
souhaité.
Reportez-vous au mode d’emploi de votre appareil photo pour les modes de prise
de vue.
Si vous réglez votre appareil photo sur le mode de priorité à la vitesse d’obturation
(S) ou sur le mode d’exposition manuelle (M), vous ne pourrez pas sélectionner
une vitesse d’obturation supérieure à la vitesse de synchro ash*.
* La vitesse de synchro ash est la vitesse d’obturation maximale pouvant être
utilisée avec un ash.
3 Lorsque cet appareil a été rechargé, appuyez sur le déclencheur
pour prendre la photo.
Lorsque la recharge est terminée, le témoin CHG de cet appareil devient orange.
Lorsque l’exposition est de nouveau bonne après la prise de vue, le témoin CHG
clignote en orange.
Remarques
Si vous prenez une photo avant que la recharge soit terminée, l’éclairage risque de
ne pas être susant (sous-exposition).
Lorsque vous utilisez le ash et prenez des photos avec le retardateur, assurez-vous
que la recharge est terminée avant d’appuyer sur le déclencheur.
Lorsque l’appareil photo est en mode de ash automatique, le ash peut ne pas se
déclencher selon les conditions d’éclairage.
Protection contre une surchaue
Grâce à cette protection, l’appareil ne risque pas de devenir trop chaud. Si cet appareil
devient chaud quand il est utilisé en mode de ash continu ou dans un environnement
très chaud, l’éclairage du ash est automatiquement désactivé.
En cas de détection de surchaue, le témoin POWER clignote en rouge à une
seconde d’intervalles.
L’éclairage du ash ne peut être réactivé que lorsque l’appareil a refroidi.
Lorsque cet appareil est trop chaud, laissez-le au repos pendant 10 minutes pour
qu’il puisse refroidir.
Commutateur BOUNCE
Si vous éclairez un sujet se trouvant juste devant un mur directement avec le ash, des
ombres importantes apparaîtront sur le mur.
Lors de prises de vue dans une pièce à plafond bas, vous pouvez adoucir les ombres en
réglant le commutateur BOUNCE sur [BOUNCE] pour incliner le tube ash de cet
appareil vers le haut et émettre la lumière vers le plafond. La lumière sera rééchie par
le plafond et éclairera le sujet de manière indirecte, produisant ainsi une luminosité
plus douce sur l’image.
Lors de prises de vue en plein air, le réglage [DIRECT] du commutateur BOUNCE
permet d’éclairer un sujet plus éloigné, hors de porte d’un ash intégré.
BOUNCE : le tube ash est orienté vers le haut à 75 degrés (ash rééchi)
DIRECT : le tube ash est à 0 degrés (ash direct)
Mettez le commutateur BOUNCE à la position souhaitée.
Commutateur TELE
Si un sujet est trop éloigné pour être atteint par le ash de cet appareil (le sujet est
hors de portée du ash), réglez le commutateur TELE de cet appareil sur la [position
téléobjectif] (voir l’illustration -B). Le ash de cet appareil aura une plus grande
portée.
Remarques
Mettez le commutateur TELE en [Position standard] (voir l’illustration-A) pour
les prises de vue normales.
Si l’angle de l’objectif est plus grand que l’angle de ash sélectionné, le pourtour de
l’image risque d’être sombre. Voir « Portée du ash zoom » pour la portée du ash
dans chaque position.
Le commutateur TELE n’est disponible que lorsque le commutateur BOUNCE est
réglé sur [DIRECT].
Si cet appareil est rattaché à un appareil photo pourvu d’un ash actionnant
l’illuminateur AF, la précision de l’autofocus risque d’être moins bonne lors des
prises de vue nocturnes.
Commande sans l
Vous pouvez xer cet appareil sur un appareil photo compatible et l’utiliser comme
commande sans l pour le ash détaché. Un ash détaché signie un ash à l’écart de
l’appareil photo utilisé pour la prise de vue.
Dans ce manuel, le ash rattaché à l’appareil photo est désigné par le terme commande
et le ash utilisé séparément de l’appareil photo est désigné par le terme ash détaché.
1 Raccordez cet appareil à votre appareil photo et réglez les
interrupteurs d’alimentation de votre appareil photo, du ash
détaché et de cet appareil sur [ON].
2 Réglez le mode de votre appareil photo et du ash détaché de la
façon suivante.
Appareil photo :
Réglez le mode sur [Sans l].
Reportez-vous au mode d’emploi de votre appareil photo pour le détail.
Flash détaché :
Réglez le ash détaché sur [Mode de commande sans l] et le canal sans l sur
[CH1]. Reportez-vous au mode d’emploi du ash détaché pour le détail.
3 Réglez votre appareil photo et votre ash détaché.
Reportez-vous au mode d’emploi du ash détaché pour le réglage.
4 Assurez-vous que votre ash détaché et cet appareil sont
complètement chargés.
5 Faites un essai pour voir si le ash détaché fonctionne.
La façon de procéder pour l’essai dépend de l’appareil photo. Reportez-vous au
mode d’emploi de votre appareil photo.
Si votre ash détaché ne s’éclaire pas, changez la position de votre appareil photo,
du ash détaché et du sujet et essayez une nouvelle fois le ash.
6 Assurez-vous que cet appareil et votre ash détaché sont chargés,
puis appuyez à fond sur le déclencheur pour prendre la photo.
Remarques
Cet appareil ne peut pas être utilisé comme ash détaché.
Le réglage de niveau de commande de l’éclairage (RATIO) n’est pas disponible.
Entretien
Retirez cet appareil de votre appareil photo et essuyez-le avec un chion sec et doux.
Enlevez le sable de cet appareil en souant dessus. Si vous nettoyez l’appareil avant
d’enlever le sable, sa surface risque d’être rayée. Pour enlever les tâches rebelles,
essuyez-les avec un chion légèrement imprégné d’un détergent doux et séchez
l’appareil avec un chion sec et doux. N’utilisez jamais de solvants puissants, tels que
des diluants ou de la benzine pour ne pas abîmer la nition de la surface.

Pour les modèles compatibles, consultez les sites, les catalogues Sony, etc.
Remarques sur l’emploi
Pendant la prise de vue
Ne dirigez pas le ash directement vers les yeux d’une personne lorsque vous
l’utilisez. Son éclair est très puissant.
Ne déclenchez pas le ash plus de 20 fois de suite. Ceci peut causer une surchaue
et détériorer cet appareil et ses piles.
Si vous déclenchez le ash un certain nombre de fois sans interruption, laissez-le
refroidir naturellement au moins 10 minutes.
Ne saisissez pas votre appareil photo par cet appareil lorsqu’il y est rattaché.
Saisissez toujours l’appareil photo proprement dit.
Ne transportez pas l’appareil photo dans un sac, etc. lorsque le ash est raccordé.
L’appareil photo ou le ash pourraient être endommagés.
Lorsque vous mettez l’interrupteur POWER de grie en position [OFF], faites
attention de ne pas vous coincer le doigt dans la charnière. Vous pourriez vous
blesser.
Piles
Selon la température et les conditions de stockage, le niveau de charge des piles
indiqué peut être inférieur à la capacité réelle des piles. Le niveau indiqué devient
en général plus précis après quelques minutes d’utilisation de cet appareil.
La puissance des piles nickel-métal hydrure baisse subitement lorsque les piles
deviennent faibles. Vous ne pourrez peut-être pas utiliser cet appareil lorsque le
témoin POWER devient rouge.
Selon la date de fabrication des piles, la fréquence et le nombre d’éclairs de cet
appareil peuvent être diérents de ceux mentionnés dans les spécications bien que
les piles insérées soient neuves.
Mettez le ash hors tension et attendez quelques minutes avant de retirer les piles.
Attention lorsque vous touchez les piles car, selon leur type et les conditions
d’utilisation, elles peuvent être chaudes.
Retirez et rangez les piles si vous prévoyez de ne pas utiliser cet appareil pendant un
certain temps.
Température
La plage de températures de fonctionnement de cet appareil est de 0 °C à 40 °C.
N’exposez pas cet appareil à des températures extrêmement élevées (par ex. en plein
soleil à l’intérieur d’un véhicule) ou à une forte humidité.
Un changement drastique de température peut causer de la condensation à
l’intérieur de cet appareil. Lorsque vous portez cet appareil d’un endroit froid, par
exemple d’une piste de ski, dans un endroit chaud, mettez-le d’abord dans un sac en
plastique, retirez l’air du sac et fermez-le. Après l’avoir apporté dans la pièce chaude,
laissez-le un instant jusqu’à ce qu’il atteigne la température de la pièce puis retirez-le
du sac.
La puissance des piles diminue à basse température. Si vous utilisez cet appareil
dans un environnement froid, utilisez des piles neuves ou emportez des piles de
rechange que vous garderez au chaud pour avoir un jeu de piles de rechange. Le
témoin POWER peut temporairement devenir rouge dans un environnement froid
même si les piles ne sont pas encore vides. Si la puissance des piles est faible parce
que la température est trop basse, laissez les piles à l’intérieur d’une pièce jusqu’à
ce qu’elles atteignent la température ambiante. La puissance des piles redeviendra
normale.
Cet appareil n’est pas étanche à l’eau. Lorsque vous utilisez cet appareil sur une
plage, veillez à le garder à l’abri de l’eau ou du sable. L’eau, le sable, la poussière ou
les dépôts de sel peuvent endommager cet appareil.

This limited warranty is void if: (i) the unit has been previously altered, modi-
fied, installed or mounted for commercial use, or repaired or serviced by any-
one other than the service facilities authorized by Sony to render such ser-
vices, (ii) the serial number on the unit has been altered or removed, or (iii) the
unit has been subject to accident, misuse, abuse or operated contrary to the
instructions contained in the Owner's Manual. The opinion of Sony with re-
spect to this matter shall be final.
Commercial Use or Rental:
This product is not intended for commercial use or rental. Should this unit be
used at any time for commercial purposes or as a rental unit, the limited war-
ranty period for parts and labour s hall be 90 days from the date of original
purcha se at retail. The opinion of Sony with respect to this matter shall be final.
Exclusions:
This limited warranty does not extend to broken or damaged cabinets , acces-
sories, batteries, exposed antennas and styluses , or to parts wearing out due
to normal wear and tear. This limited warranty doe s not cover regular product
maintenan ce such as cleaning, lubrication or check-ups.
This limited wa rranty covers only the hardware components packaged with the
product. It does not cover technical assistance for hardware or s oftware usage
and it does not cover any software products whether or not contained in the
product. Any such software is provided "AS IS" unless expressly provided for
in any enclosed software limited warranty. Please refer to the End User Licen se
Agreements included with the product for your rights and obligations wi th re-
spect to the software.
This limited warran!Y is valid only in Canada .
Delivery:
The unit must be delivered in person to one of the nearest Sony service facili-
ties in Canada , or shipped, freight prepaid, in either its original package or
s imilar package affording an equal degree of protection and with instructions
indicating a location within Canada to which the unit may be returned. If shipped
to the service facility , the repaired unit will be returned to customer freight
prepaid. All accessories that are enclosed with the unit must be listed indiv i du-
ally on the packing slip for the shipping documentation . Defective accessories
should be shipped to Sony as a separate repair item. Sony shall have no liabil-
ity whatsoever for loss or dam age in transit of items shipped to service facili -
ties . Any parts replaced under this limited warranty will become the property of
Sony. II is your responsibility to back up any data, software or other materi-
als you may have stored or preserved on your unit. It is likely that such data,
software, or other materials will be lost or reformatted during service and
Sony will not be responsible lor any such damage or loss.
Proof of Purchase:
This limited warranty applie s to the product from the original date of purchase
at retail. The owner must furnish proof of original purchas e at retail.

Sony Electronics Inc. ("Sony") warrants this product against defects in material or workmanship for the time
periods and as set forth below. Pursuant to this Limited Warranty, Sony will, at its option, (i) repair the product
