sure to read both documents before using your lens.
This manua l is for several differ ent lenses.

design ed for Sony a camera system E-mo u nt cameras.
The Son narT *E 24mm F\.8 ZA was developed jointly
by
Car l Zeiss and Sony Co rporati on and designed for Sony
E-
mo un t cameras. Th is lens is produced und er t he s tr ict
stan
dards and qua lity assur ance system of Carl Ze iss.
You can
not use it on A-mount cameras.

Notes on Use
• When carrying a camera with the lens attached, always firmly
hold both the camera and the lens.
Precautions on using a flash
• When using a flash, always remove the lens hood and shoot
at least I m (3.3 feet) a way from your subject. \V i th certain
combinations
of lens and flash, the lens may partially block
the light
of the flash, resulting in a shadow at the bottom of
the picture.
Vignetting
• When using t he lens, the corners of the screen become darker
than the center. To reduce this phenomena (called vignett ing),
close the aperture
by l to 2 stops.

To attach
the lens
(See

1 Remove the rear and front lens caps and the
camera body cap.
• You can attach/detach the front lens cap in two \vays, ( l)
and(2).
2 Align the white index on the lens barrel with
the white index on the camera (mounting
index),
then insert the lens into the camera
mount and rotate it clockwise until it locks.
• Do not press t he lens release button on the camera when
mounting the lens.
• Do not mount the lens at
an angle.
To remove the lens
(See
illustration GJ- [gj .)
While holdi ng down the lens release button on
the camera, rotate the lens countetclockwise
until it stops,
then detach the lens.

It is recommen ded that you use a lens h ood to redu ce flare
a
nd e nsur e maximum im age quality.

Align
the red line on the lens hood with the
red line on the lens (hood index), then insert
the lens hood into the lens mount and rotate it
clockwise until the red point on the lens hood
is aligned with the red line on the lens {hood
index) and
the lens hood clicks into place.
• When using a built-in camera flash or a fl ash supplied with the
camera, remove the lens hood to avoid blocking the
fl ash light.
•
You can attach a filter or front lens c ap to the lens hood as
well. Depending on the filter you use, yo ucan attach the lens
hood after attachi
ng the filter to the lens. (E 30 mm F3 .5 Macro
only)
• When stori

Fit the hood into the mount on the end of the
lens barrel and rotate the hood clockwise until
it clicks.
• When using a built-in came ra fl as h or a flash supp li ed w it h the
camera, remove the lens hood
to avoid bl ocking the flash ligh t.
• When storing, fit the lens hood onto the lens backwards.

There are t hree ways to focus.
•Auto focus
The camer a focuses automa ticall y.
• DMF (Direct manual focus)
Aft er the came ra fo cuses in auto focus, you can make a fine
adj
ustment m an ually.
• Manual focus
You focus manually.

on mode sett ings, refer to the instructi on manua l
supplied with the
came ra.

availableexposure meter
or manual
flash shooting function
\Vh en sh oot ing dose to a subj ect with theE 30 mm F3.5
Macro, the brigh
tn ess of the lens is reduc ed.
Whe n shoot ing in aut omatic exposure mode or me t ered
manua l mode (for example, th e camera's AUTO mode), the
exp osure is ad ju sted automatica lly.
When using a co mm ercially available expos ure meter
or shoo ting with the manua l flash fun c tion available on
some external fla sh units, set the exp os ur e hi gher than th e
indicated v al u e.

he lens and the ca mera, result ing in
operational ma lfu nct ion.
Condensation
Ifyour lens is brought direc tl y from a cold place to a warm
place, condensation may appear on
th e lens. To avoid th is,
place the lens in a plast ic bag or somethingsimilar. When
the air temperature in
si de the bag reaches the surrounding
temperature, take the lens out.
Cleaning the lens
• Do not to u ch t he surface of t he lens directly.
• If
the lens gets dirty, bru sh offdust with a lens blower
and
wipe with a soft, clean cloth (Cleaning Cloth is
recommended).
• Do not use any organic solvent, such as thinner or benzi ne, to
clean th elensorthecamcracone.
