New SXRD panels for amazing
cinematic 1080p HD resolution
The new Silicon X-tal Reflective Display (SXRD)
panel has been developed and refined by Sony to
reproduce superb 1920 x 1080 High Definition output.
By dedicating one SXRD panel to
the colours red, green and blue,
the SXRD system eliminates colour
breaking – and guarantees an
outstanding picture.

The pristine image produced
by three SXRD panels.
The typical ‘screen door’ effect
seen on projectors without SXRD
technology.
Full HD 1080p resolution of 1920
x 1080. Three panels – red, green
and blue, ensure optimum colour
reproduction and result in over 6.2
million pixels, more then double
the pixel count of 720p projectors.
Faster response time
The 2.5 millisecond response time
contributes to the overall effect
of fluid, natural movement
essential for a convincing
recreation of the cinematic
experience. When compared to
the 8 millisecond response time
of a conventional LCD television,
you begin to get a sense of just
how fast SXRD panels really are.
Film-like reproduction
of 35mm film. SXRD provides
film-quality smoothness by
minimizing the space between
pixels (0.25µm VPL-VW80) for
smooth and dot-less pictures.
Higher Contrast Ratio
Contrast is central to superior
picture quality, so the innate high
contrast of SXRD is leveraged by
Sony’s Advanced Iris 2 system to
produce a super-high contrast
ratio of up to 60,000:1
(VPL-VW80).

1080p High Definition – a superior viewing experience
Newly developed SXRD panels and 1080p HD combine to deliver an
overwhelming viewing experience on a screen far superior – and larger
– to that displayed on flat panel TV technology.

1080p High Definition represents a
quantum leap in picture quality.
With three of Sony’s new
1920 x 1080 SXRD panels at the
heart of the BRAVIA SXRD Home
Cinema Projectors, a consistently
superior image is produced
across the entire screen. The
unique combination of three
separate panels of 1920 x 1080
resolution (one each for red,
green and blue) means that SXRD
can deliver over 6.2 million pixels,
more than twice as many as the
2.8 million pixels you get with
other 720p HD ready projectors.
As minuscule image details finally
become distinct, films, sports
broadcasts and concerts come
to life as never before. At this level
of resolution, individual pixels
remain entirely imperceptible,
allowing for the reproduction of
colourful landscapes and
fast-moving sequences with
absolute supremacy.

8 HOME PROJECTOR RANGE
HD technology offers a true-to-life picture quality, but blowing it up to
300”/7.6m also makes you notice any flaws. Sony’s SXRD Home Cinema
Projectors have many features that ensure optimum picture quality.
Optimum picture quality from a multitude
of picture enhancement technologies
Fully Digital Signal Processing
by BRAVIA ENGINE 2 and
BRAVIA ENGINE PRO
The unique BRAVIA ENGINE 2
found inside the VPL-HW10
and VPL-VW80 drives its
amazing picture by generating
incredible colour and clarity
through eight separate picture
enhancement processes
carried out in real time.
Each of these stages has its
own specialised function.
Together they generate a
picture that is optimised in
every way, from the accuracy
of the contrast to the precision
of the colour reproduction.
The VPL-VW200 boasts the
advanced BRAVIA ENGINE PRO
featuring Digital Reality Creation
(DRC-MF v2.5) which further
improves both Standard and
High Definition signals through
four additional processing steps,
so that you see every detail
clearer than ever before.

HOME PROJECTOR RANGE 9
Smooth Motion with Motionflow
Dark Frame Insertion
To bring the thrill of watching
fast-paced, cinematic action to
your home, the VPL-VW80 and
VPL-VW200 feature a technology
called Motionflow Dark Frame
Insertion which makes motion
much smoother. This innovative
process creates and inserts
artificial frames, first comparing
key visual factors on successive
frames – then calculating the
split second of ‘missing’ action in
the sequence. Although other
technologies also insert frames in
a similar way, Motionflow Dark
Frame Insertion uses a unique
algorithm that can take into
account more visual factors from
the existing frames – so the new
frame is much more accurate.
The optional insertion of darkened
frames heightens the contrast
and eliminates any judder. This
action mimics that of actual
movie projection meaning, you’ll
experience movies and sports
with a greater sense of realism
than ever before.
Without Motionflow with
Dark Frame Insertion.
With Motionflow with
Dark Frame Insertion.

The first stage in ensuring
optimum colour reproduction
is carried out by the BRAVIA
ENGINE 2, which optimises every
frame for vibrant and lifelike
results. If additional adjustment
is necessary, Real Colour
Processing (RCP) provides a
precision toolkit for getting the
right results. Crucially, Real Colour
Processing allows you to adjust
the hue of a specific colour
without changing the whole
image. So if something like skin
tone needs adjustment, you
can do it without altering the
colour of the sky or the
background of the scene.
10 HOME PROJECTOR RANGE
Incredible levels of colour
All of our projectors incorporate specialist colour
technology to create bright, crisp and vibrant imagery.

x.v.Colour – more lifelike
colours and natural tones
All models provide full support for
the xvYCC colour space, the new
industry standard encompassing
a range nearly two times wider
than the existing sRGB standard.
Like all Sony products with this
capability, it bears the x.v.Colour
sub-brand, indicating to
customers that it is ready for a
future where the phrase ‘lifelike
colour’ will take on a new depth
of meaning.
Deep Colour™ – trillions of colours
instead of mere millions
In addition, the BRAVIA VPL-HW10,
VPL-VW80 and VPL-VW200 also
offer Deep Colour, which
increases the number of colours
available within the boundaries
defined by x.v.Colour from millions
to trillions. Again, like x.v.Colour,
this readies the projector for
exciting developments in the
way in which colour is captured
and reproduced. Right now,
the best way to appreciate the
effects of Deep Colour is with
PLAYSTATION®3 – new games will
use it to push the boundaries of
realism to even higher levels.
Panel alignment
To ensure the best possible results,
all models feature electronic panel
alignment, allowing users to
achieve an exact alignment of the
red and blue elements within each
pixel. Adjustments can be made
by as little as 0.1 pixels to achieve
optimum clarity.

Carl Zeiss lens
Nothing has a greater impact on
picture quality than lenses. So it’s no
wonder cinematographers insist on
the legendary optics of Carl Zeiss. The

is composed of many separate glass
elements bringing world renowned
precision to the BRAVIA VPL-VW200
home cinema projector. Pure Xenon Lamp

UHP Lamp
Pure Xenon Lamp
This Pure Xenon Lamp has
extraordinary spectral
characteristics so it can produce
a light spectrum similar to that
of sunlight. This spectral profile
allows the Pure Xenon Lamp
to generate staggering reds
for richer, more natural colours
overall, especially when paired
with a High Definition video
source. The capacity of the
400 wattage lamp makes it
exclusive to the VPL-VW200,
with the exception of the
professional screening rooms
at major motion picture studios.
Without a Pure Xenon Lamp,
reds and whites are flat.
With a Pure Xenon Lamp,

ports for flawless interaction with the exciting new wave of
1080p High Definition devices. With an unprecedented array
of connectors, this range of BRAVIA Home Cinema Projectors
guarantees the seamless compatibility connoisseurs crave.

Multimedia Interface™) digital
inputs with CEC ensure that
your projector can reproduce
the superb quality of any signal

Component Video, Composite
Video and S-Video, features
available in the range include a
15-pin D-sub (VGA) port that lets
you run films or photo slideshows

your choice of a top-of-the
range, Multi-channel Surround
system and experience the
overwhelming intensity of
contemporary cinema sound
at home.

24p True Cinema
Movies shot with a film camera have 24 frames per second.
With the 24p True Cinema incorporated in these projectors, all
24 progressive images are displayed in the same sequences as
the original film source. In combination with next generation video devices
like the Blu-ray Disc, the same film-like motion normally seen only in a
cinema is now available in the comfort of your living room.
Advanced Iris 2
The latest evolution of Sony’s own Advanced Iris function uses
algorithms designed to analyse the histogram of each picture along
with nonlinear amplification to dynamically adjust the aperture for its
optimum opening. The result is a stunningly high contrast ratio
(VPL-VW80 60,000:1). Images in bright scenes are crisp and clear and
black levels in dark scenes are deep and detailed. A manual
adjustment option is also available to fix the aperture opening for
specific image conditions.
All Range Crisp Focus Lens (ARC-F)
A specially developed crisp focus lens to take full advantage of the full
1920 x 1080 HD resolution that the SXRD panel device offers. It delivers
superior resolution and focus.
Anamorphic Zoom Mode
The anamorphic zoom mode allows the projectors to compress the image
vertically so that the attached anamorphic lens can widen it horizontally
– allowing you to view films in the impressive 2,35:1 aspect ratio seen in
actual cinemas.

Image Director 3
Gamma Adjustment Application Software. The VPL-VW80 and VPL-VW200
work with Image Director 3 via the RS232C terminal. Image Director 3
comes on a CD-ROM. This application software is suitable for fine gamma
adjustments. With Image Director 3 on your PC, it is possible to adjust the
gamma curve more easily and accurately thanks to the new zooming
function, and you can choose a mode from Fine or Coarse to suit
your taste.
Lens Shift
The projected image position (both horizontal and vertical) can be easily
adjusted with the Lens Shift function, which expands the projector’s
placement and installation options without distorting the image quality.
The VPL-HW10 lens can be manually adjusted: 65% vertically and 25%
horizontally. The VPL-VW80 can be electronically adjusted using its
motorised lens: 65% vertically and 25% horizontally. The VPL-VW200 can be
adjusted electronically or manually: 65% vertically and 6.7% horizontally.
The VPL-VW80 has a built-in motorised lens protector cover in front of the
lens, protecting it from dust. It automatically opens when the projector is
turned on, and closes again when switched off.
