How to Use This User’s
Guide
This User’s Guide explains how to operate the Sony
Wide area Object Detection system on your computer.
The User’s Guide is written to be read on the computer
display.
As this section gives tips on using the User’s Guide, read
it before you operate the system.
Jumping to the related page
When you read the User’s Guide on the computer
display, click on the sentence to jump to the related page.
Software display examples
Note that the displays shown in the User’s Guide are
explanatory examples. Some displays may be different
from the ones which appear as you operate the
application software.
Printing the User’s Guide
Depending on your system, certain displays or
illustrations in the User’s Guide, when printed out, may
differ from those as portrayed on your screen.
Installation Manual (Printed Matter)
The supplied Installation Manual describes the
installation and connection of the camera, and
precautions. Be sure to read the Installation Manual
before operating.
Features
The Sony Wide area Object Detection system
application software is designed for use with the Sony
XIS-10DC Wide View Camera to monitor a wide area.
Panorama camera and zoom camera
The XIS-10DC camera is composed of a panorama
camera and zoom camera.
The panorama camera shoots a panorama image of 360°
at 7.5 frames/second.
The zoom camera shoots a moving object detected by
the panorama camera and zooms up the image.
Note
The view angle of 360° may not be secured, depending
on the mounting method of the XIS-10DC camera.
Motion detection
The system detects moving objects.
The object recognized as a moving object is displayed
on the panorama camera image with a green frame.
Non-detection areas can be set on the panorama camera
image.
Note
The performance of motion detection depends on the
shooting parameter set for the panorama camera. If the
parameter setting is inappropriate, the camera may not
recognize moving objects.
Priority area
The priority area can be set on the panorama camera
image. The moving object appearing in the priority area
is given priority in shooting with the zoom camera.
Automatic tracking with motion detection
The zoom camera automatically tracks the moving
object detected by motion detection.
The camera tracks one moving object at a time. If there
are multiple moving objects, the camera tours through
them according to the priority given to the objects.
Lock-on feature
The zoom camera can track only on a specified moving
object. To specify the moving object for the lock-on
feature, click on the green frame displayed on the object.
The lock-on feature is cancelled when the moving object
stops moving or disappears from the field of view of the
panorama camera.
Focus area
Multiple focus areas can be set on the panorama camera
image. The moving objects appearing in the focus areas
can be shot automatically.

Moving object count in the focus area
The system counts moving objects appearing in the
focus areas and displays the number of counted moving
objects by switching the display menu.
Image recording
The system is capable of recording monitoring images
as well as monitoring a wide area. Recorded old images
can be deleted automatically in time order.
Note
Automatic deleting of recorded images will be executed
when the remaining capacity of the computer (drive
capacity) reaches approximately 10%. We recommend
that you move the data you want keep to other recording
media using the export function.
Manual mode
In manual mode, you can control pan, tilt and zoom of
the zoom camera manually.
Fixed camera
The system allows connection of the Sony SNC-Z20N/
P Network Camera and the camera connected to the
Sony SNT-V501/V504 Video Network Station as fixed
cameras.
System Configuration
Connect the XIS-10DC Wide View Camera and a
computer that runs the Wide area Object Detection
system to either an exclusive network or LAN.
The supposed exclusive network consists of one XIS-
10DC camera and a computer to control the camera only
in the same network.

System Requirements
The following is essential for running the system. If the
system environment is unsatisfactory, the system may
not operate correctly.
Operating system: Windows XP Professional, Service
Pack 1 or later
CPU: Pentium 4, 3 GHz or higher
Hard disk: More than 100 GB (essential)
More than 500 GB (recommended)
Memory: 1 GB or more
Video card: 1024 × 768 (XGA) or more
Display: Full color display
DPI setting: Normal size (96 DPI)

Software
The Wide area Object Detection system application
software consists of the following two programs (tools).
Use the program that suits your purpose.
WODs: Operator Tool
This tool is used for daily operation of the camera, such
as monitoring, recording and playback. The target users
are mainly system operators.
For details of the tool, see “Operations – Using Operator
Tool” on page 16.
WODs Administrator: Administrator Tool
This tool is used for setups and various administrative
settings of the camera. The target user is mainly the
system administrator.
For details of the tool, see “Setups – Using
Administrator Tool” on page 31.
Notes
• Operator Tool and Administrator Tool cannot run
simultaneously.
• When you exit Operator Tool or Administrator Tool,
the ending process is performed for about 10 seconds
after the application display has disappeared from the
screen. During this process, you cannot start Operator
Tool or Administrator Tool even if you double-click
on the tool’s icon on the desktop.
• When you use Operator Tool or Administrator Tool,
you need write permission in the data folder and the
folder in which the program has been installed.
Access the application software using an account
higher than Power Users or an account that has the
write permission to these folders.

Preparations
This chapter describes the installation of the application
software, connection of the camera to the network and
software prerequisites that you need to know before
daily operation of the camera.
Installing Wide area
Object Detection system
Install the Wide area Object Detection system
application software from the supplied CD-ROM to
your computer.
The Wide area Object Detection system application
software is composed of Operator Tool and
Administrator Tool. The following installation
procedure allows installation of the two tools.
Note
The local administrator right is required for installing
the application software.
1 Insert the supplied CD-ROM disc into your CD-
ROM drive.
The contents of the CD-ROM are displayed.
2 Open the WODs folder.
3 Start Setup.exe.
The installation wizard for Wide area Object
Detection system appears on the screen.
4 Shut down any other windows programs that may
be running and click Next.
The User Interface Language dialog appears.
5 Select the language for the user interface to be
installed and click Next.
The License Agreement dialog appears.
6 Read the License Agreement carefully, and if you
accept the agreement, select I accept the terms of
the license agreement and click Next.
The Choose Program Directory dialog appears.
7 If you install the program in the default folder, click
Next.
The default program directory is set to “C:\Program
Files\Sony Wide area Object Detection system”.
To change to another directory, click Browse...,
navigate to a folder in which to install the program,
and click OK. Then click Next.

Note that the drive letter will depend on the
Operating System and that the default directory can
be modified during installation.
The Choose Data Directory dialog appears.
8 Select the folder in which to save data, and click
Next.
The default data directory is set to “C:\Program
Files\Sony Wide area Object Detection system”.
To change to another directory, click Browse...,
navigate to a folder in which to save data and click
OK. Then click Next.
The Ready to Install the Program dialog appears.
9 Click Install.
Installation of the program starts.
When installation is finished, the InstallShield
Wizard Complete dialog appears.
10 Click Finish to complete installation.
The installation is completed.
After the installation, the following two shortcut
icons are created on the desk top.
WODs: Operator Tool

Installing IP Setup
Program
IP Setup Program is used to assign an IP address to the
camera when you connect the camera to LAN. It is not
necessary when you connect the camera to an exclusive
network.
Install the IP Setup Program from the supplied CD-
ROM to your computer.
1 Insert the supplied CD-ROM disc into your CD-
ROM drive.
The contents of the CD-ROM are displayed.
2 Open the IP_Setup folder.
3 Start SETUP.EXE.
4 Install IP Setup Program to your computer
following the displayed wizard.
If the Software License Agreement is displayed,
read it carefully and accept it to continue the
installation.
Connecting the Camera
to Network
Assign the IP address to the camera to connect it to an
exclusive network or LAN.
Connecting the Camera to an
Exclusive Network
When a network is configured with one XIS-10DC
camera and one computer only, you can easily assign the
IP address to the camera using the “Easy setting”
feature.
One XIS-10DC is composed of two camera models:
XIS-NT10 (later called Panorama Camera) and SNC-
RZ30N/P (later called Zoom Camera). The “Easy
setting” feature automatically assigns IP addresses to the
two camera models that are consecutive to the one
previously assigned to the computer. (For example, if the
IP address of the computer is 192.168.10.1,
192.168.10.2 is assigned to the XIS-NT10, and
192.168.10.3 to the SNC-RZ30N/P.)
To begin with
• Connect the camera to the exclusive network and turn
on the power.
• Disable the firewall feature of the computer.
For the setting, see “Disabling the firewall of
Windows XP” on page 14.
1 Assign the static IP address to the computer with
Administrator Tool installed.
1Select Network Connections from Control
Panel of Windows.
2Select Properties from Local Area
Connection.
3Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click
Properties.
4In Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties
dialog, select Use the following IP address,
and enter the IP address and subnet mask.
5Click OK to close the dialog.

2 Double-click the WODs_Administrator icon to
start Administrator Tool.
The main window of Administrator Tool opens.
3 Select Camera information under Tool on the
menu bar.
The Camera information dialog opens.
4 According to the camera installation position,
select the appropriate option from among
Panorama camera downward, High position,
Panorama camera downward, Low position,
Panorama camera upward, High position and
Panorama camera upward, Low position.
Then click Easy setting.
The IP addresses are assigned to the cameras and
displayed.
The Use panorama camera and Use zoom
camera checkboxes are selected to show the
cameras are available.
IP address assignment is now completed.
Note
If the Easy setting button is disabled (in gray),
clear the Use panorama camera and Use zoom
camera checkboxes to enable it.
5 Click the Close button to close the Camera
information dialog.
6 To exit the Administrator Tool, click the Close
button or select Exit the application under File on
the menu bar.
Default network setting of the camera
The factory network setting of the camera is as follows:

IP address: 192.168.10.11
SNC-RZ30N/P
IP address: 192.168.10.12

High position: The panorama camera is installed more than 3
m above ground.
Low position: The panorama camera is installed less than 3 m
above ground.
