1-1. Operating Precautions When Replacing Hard Disk Drive
The Hard Disk Drives (HDD) are installed in the MAV-555.
The HDD is a precision part. The causes such as shock, vibration and static electricity to the unit, and the
conditions of temperature and humidity may damage HDD or its data.
Before installation, read fully the following cautions, and perform the installation with extra care.
Cautions about shock and vibration
When transporting and moving;
.Pack the unit using the packaging materials specified by the manufacturer.
.Use a proper cart.
.Put a cushion*on the cart.
.Avoid rough routes, and manage the cart gently.
When placing on a floor or table;
.Put a cushion*on stable and horizontal place, and put the unit on it gently.
.Do not place the unit near vibrating equipments.
For the unit;
.Never hit the unit by tool, and drop the tool on the unit.
Take extra care;
.Never give vibration or shock to the unit while the power is turned on, or within about 30 seconds after
turning off the power.
*Cushion: Polyethylene foam (density: 38 kg/m3, surface intrinsic resistance : 1011 to 1012 Z, thickness: 50 mm) or equivalent.
Cautions about rack mounting the unit
.Be careful not to give shock to the HDD.
Caution about static electricity
.Keep static-producing items such as plastics away from the working area.
Cautions about temperature and humidity
.Temperature and humidity of storage and operating condition must be kept within the correct specified
range.
.Never turn on the power with the cabinet is removed in consideration of the air-cooling effect.
Cautions when an error appears in a HDD
.Treat this unit conform to the above cautions, even when an error appeared.
.Keep the unit in the condition in which the error appeared, and record the details of the error.

Prolonging Life of Hard Disk Drive
The life of the hard disk drive (HDD) is shortened by vibration, shock,
temperature, humidity and static electricity.
To prolong the life of the hard disk drive, observe the following precautions. Read these
precautions before
using the hard disk
drive!
Static Electricity
Static electricity can reach up to several kilo volts and instantaneously
damage the HDD board.
.Be sure to touch the metal rack or similar earthed part
before touching the HDD in order to discharge the static
electricity of your body. We recommend wearing an earthed
wrist-band.
Vibration, Shock
Excessive vibration and shock to the HDD can damage the internal
heads and media.
In some cases, it may take several months for the heads and media to
become damaged after the vibration or shock is applied.
.Take great care not to drop the product or HDD assembly, and to
avoid collision when handling the product and HDD.
.The HDD is at greatest risk of damage when the power is
turned on, and for thirty seconds after the power is
turned off. Never move, transport or tap the product
during these times.
.Be sure to pack the product and the HDD assembly in the
packaging materials specified by the manufacturer or in a
carrying case that protects the HDD from shock and vibration
when transporting the HDD assembly or the product.
Temperature, Humidity
Use of the HDD in an environmental temperature exceeding the product
specification will accelerate wear of the parts and components of the HDD.
A sharp change of environmental temperature and humidity can cause
troubles inside the HDD such as condensation, even if the environ-
mental temperature and humidity are within the product specifica-
tions.
.The HDD starts up automatically when the main power of the
product is turned on. Always operate the HDD under the
specified environmental temperature and humidity once
the main power is turned on.
.When the HDD is moved into a warm indoor room from the cold
outdoors, the HDD assembly should be left for three hours
or more without removal from the packaging materials or
carrying case.

MAV-555.

Replacement of the Hard Disk Drive
Before starting to increase the capacity of the HDD by installing the BKMA-U55, confirm that the MAV-
555 and the related optional units are version 2.00 or higher. For upgrading the system to the newest
version, upgrade it by referring to the CD that is supplied with the BKMA-U55.

.When capacity of the HDD is increased by installing the BKMA-U55, the “ALL ERASE” menu needs
to be executed after replacement of the hard disk. Because the pre-recorded materials will be all erased,
copy of all the necessary materials to VTR and others for backup purpose.
.Be sure to implement the “ALL ERASE” menu from the application software when it is connected to
an application.
.All of the work procedures to increase the capacity of the HDD by installing the BKMA-U55 must be
executed while the system power is kept turned off.

To replace the HDD, perform the following steps starting from the top in this order. For details, refer to
each item.

.Ethernet cross cable
.Version check software: GCD Loader V0.21 (This is stored in the supplied CD.)
Connection
Connect the Ethernet terminal of the rear panel to a personal computer using an Ethernet cross cable.

Preparation
1. Set the IP address and the sub-net mask of the MAV-555 to the factory settings.

.The IP address and sub-net mask can be confirmed in set-up menu No. 220.
.The factory settings are as follows:
IP address : 192.168.0.1
Sub-net mask : 255.255.255.0
2. Set the IP address and the sub-net mask of the personal computer as follows:
IP address : 192.168.0.2
Sub-net mask : 255.255.255.0
3. Start up the personal computer.
4. Wait for the MS-DOS prompt (or command prompt) to appear.
5. Input [ping 192.168.0.1].
6. Confirm that the reply is returned normally.

7. If the reply is not returned normally, input [arp -d 192.168.0.1] and perform from step 5 again.
(There can be a case that the APR table information is left remained when two or more MAV-555s
are connected continuously.)

Checking the versions
1. Start up the GCD loader.
2. Input the Target Address.
3. Select [Information] _[Target Version] from the top menu.
4. Click the Version button of each board and confirm the current version.
5. Press the Close button.

Checking the version of BKMA-505
When the option BKMA-505 (Disk Recorder Control
Panel) is installed in the MAV-555, check the version of
the BKMA-505 as well in the following steps
1. Press the L3 while pressing the MODE button of the
BKMA-505. (CP Setup)
2. Press the L4 (Software version).
3. Check each version of the Main and Sub that is
displayed on the LCD panel of the BKMA-505.

or longer before starting the removal.

2. Open the lock lever in the direction of the arrow and
remove the HDD unit from the slot gently.

When placing the removed HDD unit, place it on a
cushion gently with the WARRANTY label side
facing down.

Installation
1. Insert a new HDD unit into the slot gently with the
lock levers opened.
2. Close the lock lever in the direction of the arrow to fix
it.
3. Attach the HDD number labels to the respective HDD
units that are newly installed, in accordance with the
respective slot numbers.
4. Attach the HDD identification label.

1. Open the “099-ALL ERASE”display from the setup
menu.
2. Press the VIDEO/MENU knob once and open the
SubMenu.
3. Press the VIDEO/MENU knob once.
4. Turn the VIDEO/MENU knob, and select “YES”.
5. Press the SET button to erase all materials in the
HDDs.
