Before you start
This chapter describes the preparations that are required in
order to play with AIBO running on the Party Mascot
ERF-210AW03.

What is the Party Mascot?
Parties and games go together, whether it’s Christmas, a birthday, or a
wedding. Party Mascot isAIBO-ware that allows you to play games with
AIBO or use AIBO as a game-facilitator. In addition to game functions, Party
Mascot providesAIBO with a song and dance repertoire that will liven up any
gathering. These and other functions can help make your AIBO the perfect
mascot and entertainer!

Preparing AIBO for Party Mascot

Grasp AIBO securely by the body, turn it upside down, and open
its stomach cover.
Notes
•Lift AIBO by the body, and not by its extremities.
•Do not touch the charging terminal with your hand. Doing so may soil the
terminal and cause poor contact.

Insert the supplied Party Mascot “Memory Stick” in the direction
of the arrow with the label side facing towards the battery pack
insertion slot.

Insert the supplied battery pack in the direction of the arrow until
it clicks into place, then close the stomach cover.

Place AIBO on the floor as shown below.
Place it on a flat, non-slippery surface, such as a carpet with a short nap.And
choose a quiet place so that AIBO can hear whatever you say to it.
Note
Be sure to place AIBO on the floor as shown above. This will prevent AIBO from
moving unexpectedly and being damaged when you press and release the pause
button to start AIBO moving.
Press on the point
indicated by the
arrow.

Press the pause button on AIBO’s chest.
AIBO’s pause mode is canceled and the chest
light lights up green. After a little while, AIBO
will begin to move.
Now, let the party begin!

About the operation modes of AIBO
While AIBO is running on the Party Mascot, it enters the following operation
modes.
Hungry mode
When AIBO’s
battery pack is
running out, it
enters this mode.
If this occurs,
charge the battery
pack.
If you keep pressing on
AIBO’s chin for three
seconds while AIBO is
ready to choose the
category, you can change
AIBO into this mode.
After the battery pack charging is
complete, press the pause button on
AIBO’s chest to restart it. For
details on how to chargeAIBO’s
battery pack, refer to the operating
instructions supplied with the
“AIBO”ERS-210 or the Energy
Station (not supplied).

Keep pressing on AIBO’s head for
three seconds.
Place AIBO on
the floor or keep
pressing on
AIBO’s head for
three seconds.
AIBO generally recovers from a fall
automatically.
When AIBO enters one of the
following modes, it automatically
returns to the category choice mode.
Jam mode
When an object gets caught between
one of AIBO’s leg joints, its legs
become loose.
Pick up mode
When AIBO is picked up from the
floor, its legs become loose and
poses.
Fall mode
When AIBO falls, it generally
recovers by itself.

Color sensor test
Depending on the lighting condition of AIBO’s environment, it may not sense
the color correctly. Use this procedure to check that AIBO senses the supplied
color cards correctly.

While AIBO is in category choice standby
posture (page 14), keep pressing its chin and
back at the same time for three seconds.

Hold each supplied color card straight up
against the floor and take it about a half foot
(15 cm) in front ofAIBO’s face (color
camera).
If AIBO senses the color correctly, its eye lights light
up as illustrated on the right.

When you finish testing, pressAIBO on the chin.
AIBO returns to category choice standby posture.
Note
For accurate sensing of colors, a bright and incandescent light is preferable.

Party Mascot
This chapter explains how to use Party Mascot. By mastering
this information, you will be able to use AIBO to enliven parties
and make gatherings more fun.

The categories
Party Mascot enablesAIBO to perform a number of actions (including games).
These actions are divided into four categories and are referred to as “modes.”
Category 1 Party Mascot AIBO
Through these modes, you can use AIBO as an aid, especially
when playing games with many people.
Category 2 Athletic AIBO
These modes enable two or more AIBOs to compete against
each other, with a little help from their owners.
Category 3 AIBO the Entertainer
These modes enable AIBO to sing and dance and play games.
Category 4 You and AIBO
With these modes, you can play with your AIBO one-on-one.
Note
In some games, you have to give orders to AIBO by voice. ForAIBO to
understand you, you have to say exactly the same words (printed in RED)
described in this manual, since they are the only ones thatAIBO will understand
while the Party MascotAIBO-ware is being used.

Party Mascot
Choosing the category
After starting up Party Mascot, do the following steps to choose the category.

Take hold of either one of AIBO’s front paws and
press the bottom of the paw repeatedly.
Look at AIBO’s eye lights to see which category is selected.

After you choose the category, pressAIBO’s head.
You can now choose the mode (page 21).
