Installation:
There are two ways to use the UAT. Refer to the setup instructions that apply
to the way you plan to use UAT.
Apple
®
Mac System Requirements:
• PPC G3 or later, or Intel Mac
• 512MB RAM
• Mac OS 9.2 or Mac OS X 10.2 or
later
• Available USB Port
• iTunes 4 or higher
PC System Requirements:
• Intel
®
Pentium 4 or later
• 512MB RAM
• Microsoft
®
Windows XP or later
• Available USB port
• iTunes
™
4 or higher, Windows
Media Player 9 or higher, Music
Match 9 or higher, RealPlayer 10
or higher
For Computers:
Select this option if you want to transmit audio wirelessly from your iTunes or
other compatible computer based juke box software.
Plug the USB cord into your UAT – the smaller USB plug will fi t into the port
on the back of the UAT. The other end will fi t into your computer. However,
do not insert the UAT into your computer until you have opened Windows
®
.
Once Windows has opened and is fully operational, please insert the other
end of the USB cable into any available USB port on your computer. Once
this step is completed, you should see a small window that states “USB
device successfully installed”, then immediately after that another window will
open that states “USB Audio Device Installed”. You will know this has been
successful if you see the bottom plate of the UAT glowing green. After these
two windows have opened and closed (with Windows Vista™ this will occur in
one window), you can bring up your music library application.
Once you have opened your music library, select a playlist and you are ready
to transmit the music to any Soundcast receiving unit.
NOTE:
You must insert
the UAT before you bring up the music library. Otherwise, it will not transmit
the music. The music will continue to play through the speakers connected to
your computer if you insert the UAT after the music library is operating. If your
Soundcast receiver or speaker has track controls, then those controls will
allow you to change the music tracks forward and back, and you can pause
and play the music - all from the remote location where you have placed the
5

receiver or Soundcast speaker system. Music libraries such as iTunes
™
and
some others will only allow this if the application is running by itself. Other
applications like Windows Media Player
™
can run in the background and still
allow you to control the music remotely through the UAT. This feature will
depend on the computer software that you are using. Once you have set
up the UAT with your computer it should come up automatically in the future
if you use the same USB port.
Note: Remote playlist control requires a
Windows PC. This function does not work with MacIntosh computers.
The USB circuit in your computer will provide
power for the UAT for regular use. You may wish
to place the UAT on the magnetic base so that it
will stay in an upright position. This will provide
the maximum transmission distance. If you are
using the UAT with a notebook or laptop computer,
you can lay the UAT on its side for convenience.
This will not harm anything, but the wireless
transmission distance may be slightly less.
For Components:
Select this option if you want to
transmit audio wirelessly from
any line level audio source such
as an AV receiver, CD
player, MP3 player, etc.
Insert the wall socket plug
adapter into the slot on the
6
AC/DC power supply that came with your UAT. The plug
adapter that is in your box should be the correct type for
your country’s mains sockets.
If the included plug adapter
does not fi t your mains wall socket, please return the
unit to your retail dealer for an exchange.
Plug the AC
adapter into an AC mains wall socket and attach the USB
cord to your UAT by inserting one end into the correct
socket on the back of the AudioCast Transmitter and the
other into the USB port on the AC/DC adapter. A green light will glow on the
base of the transmitter indicating you have power.

These are to be connected to your component – CD player, receiver, DVD
player, MP3 Player, etc. – using the connecting cables provided with your
UAT. The remaining mini-jack is an output jack that can be used to connect
headphones or other products such as powered speakers.
Your UAT has been set at the factory for the
output voltage of most common component
devices. However, should you fi nd that signal
received by your Soundcast receiver or your
Soundcast wireless speaker
systems is much lower in volume that you might expect, there
is a small sensitivity switch
(IN)
on the bottom of the UAT. You
can place this switch into the other more sensitive position
(Lo)
, if you need to improve the overall gain of your system.
Please use the tip of a pen or pencil to move this switch.
Note:
The UAT does
not
have an internal amplifi er. Any
speaker systems that are attached to this product must have
internal amplifi ers in order to play music.
If you wish to connect your Universal AudioCast Transmitter
to a set of headphones you may do so by inserting the plug into the
headphone jack on the back of the UAT.
On the back of your UAT you will fi nd four jacks.
One is for the USB port for connecting the USB
cable to the AC/DC Adaptor as illustrated above.
You will also see two RCA jacks - a red one
indicating right and a white one indicating left.

(sold seperately)
This jack will function even while you are sending
a wireless transmission. Also please note that
if you have both a computer and a component
attached to your UAT, the USB computer circuit
will always take precedence. You will need to
disconnect the computer in order to transmit
from a component.
SoundCast Receiver
(sold seperately)
To complete your AudioCast system you will need a Soundcast Receiver
or a Soundcast wireless speaker system such as OutCast or SpeakerCast.
Once you have correctly installed your UAT, you are ready to transmit your
music. The AudioCast Receiver or Soundcast speaker system should
be installed at a distance of no more than 150 feet (45 meters) from your
Universal AudioCast Transmitter when used indoors. Outdoors, the signal
may carry up to 350 feet (100 meters) depending on conditions. In addition
to the green power light in the bottom plate of the UAT, the front of the plate
will also glow blue once the wireless link is established. The bottom plate on
your UAT will add a blue light that will glow steadily once the wireless link is
established. Once the link is in place, you should be able to hear the music
from your computer or other audio source through the device connected to
the Soundcast receiver or to the Soundcast wireless speaker system. Make
8

sure both units are set on the same transmitting channel.
See explanation of this feature below.
If you have connected the Transmitter to your computer, you must select your
music and your play lists from the fi les stored on your computer. AudioCast
only transmits what your computer or your CD unit is playing. Please
remember that your
UAT
is strictly an audio device
–
IT WILL NOT TRANSMIT VIDEO OR ANY TYPE OF COMPUTER FILE!
You can leave the AudioCast system hooked up 24 hours per day if you
wish to do so – it is designed for continuous operation. However, if you do
not intend to use the system for an extended period of time, you should
disconnect the power supplies from the wall outlets to conserve energy.
Additional Features
Your UAT has a multi-room
(M)
and same
room
(S)
selector switch on the bottom
of the unit
(RM)
. It is set at the factory
for multi-room
(M)
applications. This will
maximize the performance when you are
transmitting music from one room to another
room in your house. However, if you wish to transmit music to receivers or
powered speakers in the same room, such as in rear channel applications for
home theater use, then you will need to select the same room position
(S)
.
This will allow the music or dialogue to better coordinate with the sounds
coming from the rear channels.
Each UAT can operate up to two Soundcast Receivers or two Soundcast
wireless speaker systems. This means you can purchase a second receiver
or Soundcast speaker system from your retailer and transmit audio to
two different locations in your house. You can also connect two Universal
AudioCast Transmitters to the same audio source using the output of one
Transmitter linked to input of another Transmitter. By linking two transmitters
in this manner, and by using two Soundcast Receivers for each one, you
can create a four zone audio system. Please remember that the same music
source will be heard in all areas and that you can only link a maximum of

two transmitters in this fashion. You will need to set the two transmitters on
different channels by using the channel selector switch on the back of the unit
and matching the channel selector switch on receiver units.
See Below.

It is also possible to operate two entirely different Soundcast systems in the
same household if you wish.
Two transmitters can operate within the same 150 foot (45 meter) radius by
using the channel selector switch on the back of the unit. All Soundcast

Select channel #2 or 3
When you wish to use two Soundcast
systems at the same time, leave one
system on Channel 1 and move the
selector switch to on the second
system to Channel 2 or 3. Please
remember that both the Transmitter and
Receiver or Soundcast wireless speaker
system must set on the same Channel.
When set this way, the two systems
will not confl ict with each other and you can use two different music sources
operating two different audio systems in the same house.
The Channel selector switch will also allow you to eliminate the signal
from a neighbor’s Soundcast system. If you live in an apartment building
and fi nd that you receive music from another Soundcast system, simply
move the selector switches on your Soundcast Transmitter and Receiver
to a different Channel and the unwanted signal will stop being received.
