Gain access to the interfacing location for your Docking Station
A. You will be connecting the SoundGate Docking Station (SDSHOND) at the rear of the factory radio. Please
consult a factory service manual for exact disassembly instructions if you are unsure of the procedure.
Gain access to this location.
Step
1
Disconnect factory radio connectors
A. Disconnect the factory CD changer connector at the rear of the factory radio (similar to
connector shown in Figure 1). Plug the blue 12-pin male connector on the SDSHOND (Figure 1) into the
factory radio.
B. Plug the factory CD changer connector into the female 12-pin connector (Figure 1) on the SDSHOND.
Step
2
Connect black ground and red power wires
A. Connect the black ground wire with the ring terminal to a good clean bare metal ground point behind the
factory radio. We DO NOT recommend using the factory ground wire in the radio harness.
B. Install a 2 Amp fuseholder in the red pigtail on the SDSHOND harness and connect to a +12 Volt switched source.
Step
3
Preliminary:
A. Turn the ignition key of the car to the “Off” position.
B. Make sure the car’s factory radio is turned to the “Off” position.
C. Eject the magazine from the CD changer.

IMPORTANT!
The vehicle must be equipped with a direct-connected remote-mounted CD changer (not FM
modulated) in order to use the SDSHOND. If you do not have a CD changer, our “Auxiliary Input
Interfaces” may be your answer. Check out www.soundgate.com for more information.

Test for correct operation
A. Reinsert the magazine into the CD changer (wait for 10 to 15 seconds for the CD changer to initialize),
then turn on the key, and the radio. Place the SDSHOND selector switch in the
center position.
B. Press the CD button on the radio and wait for the CD changer to begin play.
Note: The CD changer must be active (running) to listen to Input A or Input B.
C. Activate your auxiliary audio source. Press the SDSHOND selector switch to the left or right to select “Input A” and
“Input B.” The audio from source “A” will begin to play over the vehicle audio system when “Input A” is active. Adjust
the gain on your auxiliary source to match the level on the CD changer.
D. If you have connected a source to “Input B,” move the SDSHOND selector switch to the other position . The audio
from source “B” should begin to play over the vehicle audio system when “Input B” is active.
Notes:
1. With some auxiliary audio sources you may not be able to match the volume level of the
factory CD changer, even with the gain on the auxiliary component at maximum. You may also
experience audible noise with the gain on the auxiliary unit at or near maximum. This is an
indication that the output signal from your auxiliary source is not strong enough. Installation of a
high-quality line driver will be required in these instances. The SoundGate VIDAOC1 is a high-
performance 4-channel line driver can be used to boost the signal coming out of your auxiliary audio
components.
2. Control of the components connected to Input A and B is per manufacture’s directions and via the
individual components controls. SDSHOND remote selector switch is only for switching between
sources.
Step
9
Install and connect the new audio source(s)
A. Install the new audio source component(s) and accessories per the manufacturer’s
instructions.
B. Route the RCA audio cables from the new component(s) to the SDSHOND interface and connect to the RCA’s (labeled
Input A and Input B). If you are only using one pair of inputs on the SDSHOND, we
recommend putting electrical tape over the unused pair of RCA inputs to prevent unintentional grounding.
Step
7
Find a convenient location for
the selector switch
A. Find a convenient location to mount the
selector switch (Figure 3). If you do not
wish to drill mounting holes in the
dashboard or trim, you can fabricate a
small mounting plate.
B. Route the switch harness to the desired
location. Unplug the white connector
(Figure 3) approximately
18 inches from the switch for easier
installation.
C. Mount the selector switch.
Step
6
Installation is complete
A. Reinstall the factory radio and any trimpanels removed during installation.
B. Make certain that all cables are tucked out of the way and that no undue stress is placed on any
connection.
Step
8
Securely mount the SDSHOND interface
A. Mount the SDSHOND interface securely.
This can be done in several ways including double-stick tape
and wire ties. If using wire ties, make certain you do not put
undue pressure on the RCA’s or the 12-pin
connector going into the SDSHOND interface.
Step
5
Connect the SDSHOND cable to the
interface
A. Plug the white 12-pin connector from the
SDSHOND into the SDSHOND interface
(Figure 2).
