NON-CONTACT INFRARED THERMOMETER
QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE
Device is for Point of Entry Screening Only-NOT for Patient/Resident Use
Model: DET-306
General:
Unit requires two AAA batteries –remove battery cover to replace batteries if needed.
Always store in clean dry place where thermometer will not become excessively cold (-25°C) or hot (35°C)
Fluctuations in ambient temperature of the environment may reduce accuracy of measurement leading to a false high
or low reading (e.g., if placed on window ledge exposed to hot sun, in direct line of air conditioner or fan)
Place IR thermometer in measuring environment for 30 minutes prior to use for most accurate results.
Start-up:
The IR thermometer should be in the same temperature environment it will be used in for approximately 30 minutes
prior to taking temperature.
Check battery –if battery is low when starting up, replace. The thermometer will turn on in the setup mode, (the
date and time does not need to be setup just wait 1 minute for the thermometer to turn off or press and release
the on/off button to go through all the steps until the thermometer turns off).
Setting the temperature to Celsius, With the thermometer off press and hold the start button for 3 seconds and the F
symbol will show on the screen, press and release the start button to change to C, press and release the on/off button
to exit and save the setting.
Use:
Ensure forehead clean, and hair is out of the way for most accurate reading.
Note: Cosmetics or sweat on forehead will affect the measurement accuracy.
Press the on/off button to turn on the thermometer, it will do a self-check and beep, it is now ready to use.
Aim the thermometer in the centre of the forehead (2-3 cm away from forehead) press and release the start button
and you will get the temperature reading.
Cleaning Instructions:
In the absence of manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning, the following IP&C recommendations are to be followed for
use and cleaning of Infrared Thermometers:
Perform hand hygiene prior to use and when stopping use
Thermometer can be used for multiple people without cleaning/disinfecting in between as long as the thermometer:
Does not touch the individual being screened
Is being handled by one screener only
Is placed on a clean surface (i.e., paper towel, blue pad) between use by a single screener
Thermometer must be cleaned and disinfected:
If the thermometer touches the person being screened
If the thermometer becomes contaminated
In between use by multiple screeners
At end of screening period
Cleaning and disinfection procedure
Obtain an Accel INTERvention disinfectant wipe or OxivirTb wipe –express extra liquid from the wipe before
cleaning and disinfecting the device
Wipe thermometer with damp wipe, ensuring 1 minute of wet contact time

Press “switch key”, unit will conduct a self-check –if there is a problem with the unit an “Err” message will display
on the LCD screen
After initial start up, unit will enter a “stand-by” state and be ready for use

Short press the “Setting” for mode conversion – press until unit is in the internal temperature (forehead temperature)
measurement mode –this character should appear:
Hold unit 1-5 cm away from forehead and press and hold “switch key” for measurement. Release button to complete
measurement.
If the measured temperature is higher than 42.1°C then HI will be displayed on the screen.
If the measured temperature is lower than 34°C then LO will be displayed.
