GENERALSAFETY
EVER
NEVER allowchildren to operatethislog splitter. NEVER allow adultslackingproperinstructions and understandingto
operate this log splitter.
KEEP allpeopleand pets a minimumof 10 feet away from yourworkarea when operating this logsplitter. Only the operator
is to be near the log splitter during use.
If a helper is assisting in loading logs, NEVER actuate the control until the helper is clear of the work area.
NEVER operatethe log splitterwhen under theinfluence of alcohol,drugs or medication.
NEVER allow a person who is tired or otherwise not alert to use your log splitter.
PREPARATIONOFTHE LOG
Both ends of the log should be cut as square as possible to help prevent the log from riding out of the splitter during
operation. Do not split logs greater than 26 in. in length.
WORKAREA
NEVER operate the log splitter on slippery, wet, muddy or icy ground.
ONLY operate your log splitter on level ground. Operating on a slope could cause the log splitter to roll over or logs to fall off.
NEVER operateyour log splitter inan enclosed area. Exhaustfumes contain carbonmonoxidewhich can bedeadlywhen
inhaled.
NEVER attemptto move yourlog splitter overhilly or uneventerrain withoutatow vehicleoradequate help.
ALWAYSblockthe wheels topreventmovement ofthelog splitter whilein operation.
ONLY operate your log splitterindaylight or under goodartificiallight.
ALWAYS keep the work area clean. Remove split wood around your log splitter immediately so that you don’t stumble
overit.

KNOW how to stop the log splitter and disengage the controls before operating it.
NEVER placehands or feetbetween the logand splitting wedgeor ram duringforward or reversestroke. Serious injuryor

NEVER reach or bend over the log splitter to pick up a log.
NEVER try to split two logs on top of each other.

REPAIRAND MAINTENANCESAFETY
NEVER operateyourlog splitter when it is in poormechanical condition or in need of repair.
Periodically check that all nuts, bolts, screws, hydraulic fittings and hose clamps are tightened.
NEVER alter your log splitter in any manner such as adding a rope or extenstion to the control lever or adding to the width or
height of the wedge. Such alterations may cause your log splitter to be unsafe and will void the warranty.
Performall recommendedmaintenanceprocedures beforeusing yourlog splitter.
Replaceall damaged orworn partsimmediately.
NEVER tamper with the engine to run it at excessive speeds. The maximum engine speed is preset by the manufacturer and
is within safety limits.
ALWAYS removethesparkplug wire beforeperforming anyserviceor repairon yourlog splitter.
ALWAYS checkthe levelof hydraulic oiland engine oilbefore operation.
ALL replacementparts must meetmanufacturer’sspecifications.

HYDRAULICSAFETY
The hydraulic system of your log splitter requires careful inspection along with the mechanical parts. Be sure to
replacefrayed, kinked, crackedor otherwise damagedhydraulichose andcomponents.
NEVER check for leaks of hydraulic fluid with your hand. Fluid escaping from a small hole can be almost invisible.
Escapingfluid under pressurecan have sufficientforce to penetrateskin causing seriouspersonalinjury orevendeath.
Leaks can be detected by passing a piece of cardboard over the suspected leak and looking for discoloration.
ALWAYS seekprofessional medicalattentionimmediately if injuredby escaping hydraulicfluid.Serious infection orreaction
candevelop if propermedicaltreatment isnotadministered immediately.
ALWAYS besuretorelieve allpressureby shuttingoffthe engine andmoving the valvecontrol handle backand forth
should it become necessary to loosen or remove any hydraulic fitting.
NEVER removethe cap fromthehydraulic tank orreservoir while thelogsplitter is running.Hot oil underpressure
could result in serious injury.
NEVER adjustthe hydraulic valve.Thepressurerelief valve onyour log splitterispreset at thefactory. Only aqualified
servicetechnician should performthis adjustment.
FIRE PREVENTION
NEVER operateyour log splitter neara flame orspark.Hydraulic oil andgasoline are flammableandcan explode.
NEVER fillthegas tank whiletheengine is hot or running.Allowtheengine to cool before refueling.
NEVER smokewhile operating or refuelingyour log splitter.Gas fumes caneasilyexplode.
ONLY refuel your log splitter in a clear area with no gas fumes or spilled gas.
ALWAYS useanapprovedfuelcontainer.
ALWAYS replace the gas cap securely.
If gasoline has spilled, move the log splitter away from the area of the spill and avoid creating any source of ignition until the
spilledgas hasevaporated.
ALWAYS take a Class B fire extinguisher with you when operating this log splitter in dry areas as a precautionary
measureagainstpossible flying sparks.
ALWAYSdrainthe fuel tankprior to storagetoavoid the potentialfire hazard.
ALWAYS store gasoline in an approved, tightly sealed container. Store the container in a cool, dry place.
NEVER storegasoline in thehouseor nearaheating appliance.

IMPORTANTNOTE:
Thislog splitter isequippedwith an internalcombustion engine andshouldnot be usedon or nearanyunimproved forest-
covered,brush-covered or grass-coveredland unless theengine’s exhaustsystemis equippedwitha sparkarrester meeting
applicable local or state laws (if any). If a spark arrester is used, it should be maintained in efffective working order by the
operator. In the state of California a spark arrester is required by law. Other states have similar laws. Federal laws apply on
federallands.Aspark arrestermuffler(optional by manufacturer)is available asanaccessory atyournearest engine dealer

TOWINGSAFETY
ALWAYS check all local and state regulations regarding towing, licensing, and lights before towing your log splitter.
ALWAYS check before towing to make sure that the log splitter is correctly and securely attached to the towing vehicle
and that the safety chains are secured to the hitch or bumper of the vehicle with enough slack to allow turning.Always
use a Class I, 2” ball with this log splitter.
NEVER carryanycargo or wood onyour log splitter.
NEVER allow anyone to sit or ride on your log splitter.
ALWAYS disconnectyourlog splitterfromthe towing vehiclebefore operating it.
ALWAYS be careful when backing up with your log splitter in tow. It could jackknife.
ALWAYS allow for addedlength of yourlogsplitter when turning,parking,crossing interesections andinall driving
situations.
NEVER exceed 45 mph when towing your log splitter. Towing the log splitter at speeds higher than 45 mph could result
in loss of control, damage to the equipment , serious injury or death. Adjust towing speed for terrain and conditions.
Beextra cautious when towingoverrough terrain especiallyrailroad crossings.

ASSEMBLYINSTRUCTIONS
NOTE: This log splitter was partially assembled at the factory. Refer to the drawing and parts list should it become necessary to disassemble the
unit for repair or replacement of parts.
STEP 1: Remove all the components from the crate. Inspect each piece for shipping damage. If any part is damaged, contact your dealer or
deliveringcarrier.
NOTE: Refertotheexplodedviewdrawingonpages11and 12whenassemblingthislogsplitter
STEP 2: Removethetank/engineassembly(2)fromthecrateandsetitontheground.Makesurethatitisstable.
STEP 3: Remove the rubber covering from the two spindles on the tank/axle (2).The wheel bearing cups, bearing cones, grease seals and hub
capsarealreadyassembled.Bearingconeshavebeengreasedatthefactory.Removethehubcap(53)bypryingitloosewitha
commontipscrewdriver.Mountthewheels(45)tothespindlesonthetank/axle(2)usingthe3/4in.lightflatwasher(50)and3/4in.
slottednut(51)fromthehardwarekit.Tightenthenutuntilbearingplayisremovedandthewheelwillstillrotatefreely.Installthecotter
pin(52)andhubcap(53).Repeatstep4fortheotherwheel.
STEP 4: Checktomakesurethatthetank/axleassembly(2)isstableandwillnotroll.Blockingthewheelswillhelptopreventanymovement.Positionthe
beamassembly(1)overtheplatewiththefourholesonthetank/engineassembly(2).Whentheholesarealigned,insertthefour1/2in.UNCx
1in.GR5bolts(26),thefour1/2in.lockwashers(25)andthefour1/2in.UNCnuts(24).Tightenthenutsandbolts.
STEP 5: Connectthe3/4in.x7-1/2in.returnhose(22)tothe3/4in.45°fittingonthevalve(4).Securewithahoseclamp(19).Tightenclamp.
STEP 6: Connectthe1/2in.x21in.pressurehose(21)totheswivelfitting(40)onthevalve(4).Tighten.

STEP 2: ThehydraulicreservoirshouldbefilledwithanAW46hydraulicoil.Ifhydraulicoilisdifficulttoobtain,automatictransmissionfluidcan
besubstitutedandshouldbeusedinsteadofhydraulicoilwhentemperaturesarebelow32degrees.Useonlycleanoilandtakecareto
preventdirtfromenteringthehydraulicreservoir.
CAUTION: WHEN TIGHTENING THE BREATHER CAP ON THE TANK, POINT THE HOLE AWAY FROM THE ENGINE
AND THE OPERATOR ZONE.

ENGINE OIL RECOMMENDATIONS

Use4-strokeautomotivedetergentoil.SAE10W-30isrecommendedforgeneraluse.RefertotheSAEViscosityGradeschartonpage17ofyourengine
owner’smanualforaveragetemperatureranges.TheenginemanufacturerrecommendsusingAPISERVICECategorySEorSFoil.
Theengineoilcapacityis0.63USqt(0.6L).
Alwayscheckoillevelbeforestartingtheengine.Keepoillevelatfull.

DIRECTIONS FOR FILLING HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
Fillthehydraulicreservoirwithatleast twogallonsofhydraulicfluid.Afterthehydraulicreservoirandtheenginecrankcasearefilledwithoil,startthe
engine.Thehydraulicpumpshouldprimeitself.Withtheenginerunning,movethehydraulicvalvelevertowardthewedge.Thiswillcausethecylinderto
extendandexpelair.Whenthecylinderisfullyextended,retractit.Repeatthisprocedureseveraltimes.Anerraticmovementofthecylinderindicatesthat
thereisstillairinthesystem.Moreoilshouldthenbeaddedtobringthefluidleveluptothe“OK”rangeonthedipstick.Totalhydrauliccapacityis2.5
gallons.NOTE:Ifthetankisoverfilled,itwilltendtoexpeloilfromthebreathercapwhenthecylinderisretracted.Afteraddingmoreoiltothetank,cyclethe
cylinderagainuntilithasaconstantspeedindicatingthatalloilhasbeenexpelled.Checktheoillevelinthereservoiragaintomakesureitisinthe“OK”
range.
STARTING INSTRUCTIONS

1)MovethefuelvalvelevertotheONposition.
2)Tostartacoldengine,movethechokelevertotheCLOSEposition.
Torestartawarmengine,leavethechokeleverintheOPENposition.
3)MovethethrottleleverawayfromtheSLOWposition,about1/3ofthewaytowardtheFASTposition.
4)TurntheengineswitchtotheONposition.
5)Pullthestartergripuntilyoufeelresistance,thenpullbriskly.Returnthestartergripgently.
6)IfthechokeleverhasbeenmovedtotheCLOSEpositiontostarttheengine,graduallymoveittotheOPENpositionastheengine
warmsup.
7)Tostoptheengineinanemergency,simplyturntheengineswitchtotheOFFposition.Undernormalconditions,movethethrottlelevertothe
SLOWpositionandthenturntheengineswitchtotheOFFposition.ThenturnthefuelvalvelevertotheOFFposition.

1)TurnthefuelvalvetotheONposition.
2)MovethechoketotheONposition.
3)MovethethrottlecontroltotheFASTposition.
4)Pullthestartergriplightlyuntilresistanceisfelt.Thenpullrapidlytostartengine.
5)MovethechokelevertotheOFFpositionifitwasusedtostarttheengineassoonasitwarmsupenoughandisrunningsmoothly.
6)Whenenginestarts,movethethrottletotheFASTposition.ItisrecommmendedthattheenginebeoperatedintheFASTpositionfor
maximumperformance.

1) Set up the log splitter in a clear, level area and block the wheels. Make sure that the suction port on the tank is always on the lower side
ofthelogsplitter.
2) Placealogonthebeamagainstthewedge.Makesurethatthelogissecurelyonthewedgeandupagainstthebeam.Alwaysuse
extra care when splitting logs with unsquare ends.
3) Depressthevalvehandlesothatthecylinderwilldrivetheramintothelog.Extendthecylinderuntilthelogsplitsortotheendofits
stroke.Iftheloghasnotcompletelysplitafterthecylinderhasreachedtheendofitsextension,retractthecylinder.
IMPORTANT: Leavingthevalveinthe“actuate”positionattheendofthestrokemaydamagethepump.
NOTE: Outputtonnagevarieswithaltitude.
MAINTENANCE
1) Consult the operating and maintenance instructions of the engine manufacturer for engine care and maintenance.
2) Always check the oil level of the hydraulic reservoir before operation. Operating the log splitter without an adequate oil supply will
cause severe damage to the pump.
3) Changetheoilfilterafterthefirst25hoursofoperation.Thereafterchangetheoilfiltereveryhundredhoursorseasonally,whichever
comesfirst.
5) Clean the breather cap after 25 hours of operation. Clean it more often when operated in dusty conditions. To clean, remove the breather
from the tank and flush with kerosene or liquid detergent to remove the dirt.

7) All replacement parts must meet manufacturer’s specifications.

informationsectionofthismanual.Donotexceed45mphwhentowingthislogsplitter.
NOTE: Theenginemaximumgovernedspeedispresetatthefactoryat3600RPMnoloadspeed.Whensplittingwood,thethrottleshouldbe
setatthemaximumsettingtodevelopthehorsepowerrequiredforthepump.
