RULES FOR SAFE INSTALLATION
AND OPERATION
Carefully read and follow all safety instructions in this
manual or on pump.
This is the safety alert symbol. When you see this
symbol on your pump or in this manual, look for one
of the following signal words and be alert to the potential
for personal injury!
DANGER warns about hazards that will
cause serious personal injury, death or major property
damage if ignored.
WARNING warns about hazards that can
cause serious personal injury, death or major property
damage if ignored.
CAUTION warns about hazards that will or
can cause minor personal injury or property damage if
ignored.
The word NOTICE indicates special instructions which are
important but not related to hazards.
1. To avoid risk of serious bodily injury and property dam-
age, read safety instructions carefully before installing
pump.
2. Follow local and/or national plumbing and electrical
codes when installing pump.
3. To avoid fatal shocks, proceed as fol-
lows if pump needs servicing:
A. Disconnect power to pump outlet box before
pulling pump cord plug. After plug is pulled, let
pump cool for 20 minutes before attempting to work
on it.
B. Take extreme care when changing fuses. To
reduce the chance of fatal electrical shocks, DO NOT
stand in water or put your finger in the fuse socket.
C.Ground the electrical outlet box.
D.Use only a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)
protected grounded outlet for cord plug.
4. Never run pump dry. To do so can damage internal
parts, overheat the pump (which can cause burns to
people handling or servicing the pump), and will void
the warranty!
5. Risk of fire or explosion if used to pump
flammable liquids or if used in explosive atmos-
pheres. Pump is designed to pump at water tempera-
tures between 32° - 77° F (0° - 25° C) only. Pump water
only with this pump.
6. Do not pump chemicals or corrosive liquids with this
pump.
Pump is supplied with
3-conductor grounding
type cord. Connect only to a
properly grounded, GFCI pro-
tected outlet. Do not lift
pump by electrical cord.
Pump is non-sub-
mersible. Keep motor
dry at all times. Do not wash
motor. Do not immerse.
Protect motor from wet
weather.
If using an extension
cord, use only a U/L
approved indoor/outdoor, 3-
wire, grounding type cord.
Do not allow any part of cord of receptacle ends to
sit in water or damp locations.
Unplug pump before servicing.
If water is trapped in pump during opera-
tion, it may turn to steam, leading to explosion and
burns. Never run pump with outlet shut off or blocked.
NOTICE
Pump clean water only with this pump. To avoid clogging
pump and damage to shaft seal, do not pump water con-
taining solids, foreign material, sand, silt, or abrasives.
Always have suction strainer installed when pump is oper-
ating. Failure to use strainer may cause pump failure and
void warranty.
Clean strainer and flush out pump after each use.
Make sure all hose and pipe connections in suction line are
tight. An air leak in suction line will prevent priming and
reduce performance.
To prevent damage to pump materials, do not use pipe joint
compounds on pump ports. Use only teflon tape or Plasto-
Joint Stik* to seal threads.
Tighten all piping to pump hand tight plus 1-1/2 turns only.
Overtightening may break pump and will void warranty.

LOCATION OF UNIT
Locate pump as near as possible (vertically) to water
source, to keep suction lift (distance from water to pump) as
low as possible. Place pump on a level support. Protect
against excess moisture and flooding.
PIPING
Both suction and discharge ports are tapped for 3/4” pipe.
If using hoses, use hose to pipe thread adapter. To prevent
suction line collapse, use pipe or reinforced hose only for
suction line. Install a strainer or puddle gulper on end of
suction line. Inspect and clean strainer frequently (see
Figure 1). Plastic pipe can be used for all installations.
PRIMING/OPERATION
NOTICE: Do not run pump dry. Running pump without
water can damage impeller and may damage seal, causing
leaking or flooding, and will void warranty.
All suction connections must be airtight. Make sure suction
lift is not more than 15 feet. Fill pump body through priming
port before starting pump. Start pump; it should pump water
in under 10 minutes (depending on length of suction hose
and height of pump above water).
Puddle Gulper Operation Instructions
1. Maximum hose length with Puddle Gulper: 10 Ft.
Maximum suction length with Puddle Gulper: 10 Ft. Be
sure all suction joints are air-tight.
2. If puddle gulper clogs or begins to suck air, STOP
PUMP. Pump will not reprime automatically when using
Puddle Gulper and can burn out if run dry. Clean strain-
er frequently.
DO NOT try to pump down area any more after puddle
gulper has broken prime.
DO NOT try to restart pump until pump has been refilled
through priming port.
ELECTRICAL
Risk of dangerous or fatal electric shock.
Unplug pump before servicing it. Do not
handle pump or attempt to work on pump
with wet hands or while standing on wet
or damp floor.
Plug pump into a 115 Volt, 60 Cycle outlet only. Pump is
equipped with a 3-wire, grounded, cord and plug. Do not
modify or remove plug. Plug in to a properly grounded,
grounding type outlet only. Make sure that pump circuit
meets National Electrical Code. To avoid dangerous elec-
trical shock hazard, keep cord dry at all times.
NOTICE: Pump motor is equipped with carbon brushes
(Key No. 7, Figure 2) with a normal operating life of about
250 hours. One extra set of brushes is included.
Replacement brushes are available from your dealer. Motor
brushes not included in warranty.
Fire hazard. Incorrectly mounted brushes
may cause fire. Be sure curve on end of brush matches
curve on commutator.

LUBRICATION
Motor is lubricated at factory for life of bearings. Pump seal
is water cooled and self lubricating.
PUMP SERVICE
Motor has auto-reset thermal overload. If motor overheats,
overload will cut off power to prevent damage and will reset
after motor cools. If overload trips repeatedly, check pump
for cause (low voltage, clogged impeller, etc.).
Hazardous voltage. Can shock, burn, or
cause death. Disconnect motor from electrical power
before servicing pump.
Always replace BOTH brushes - to avoid fire hazard,
never replace just one.
Motor Brush Replacement:
Replace brushes when they wear down to 1/2” length.
1. Unplug pump from power outlet.
2. Unscrew brush caps (Key No. 6, Figure 2) and remove
brushes (Key No. 7).
3. Install new brushes and brush caps.
NOTICE: When reinstalling the same brushes that were
removed, replace on same side of motor that they were
on originally. Match curve on ends of brushes to curve
on commutator.
Pump Disassembly:
1. Unplug pump from power outlet.
2. To prevent breaking brushes when removing rotor,
unscrew brush caps (Key No. 6) and remove brushes
(Key No. 7); see “Motor Brush Replacement” at left.
3. Remove 4 nuts holding pump body to motor; pull pump
body away from motor housing. Seal Plate, Slinger and
Shaft Rotor will come with it. Do not lose Spring Washer
(Key No. 8, Figure 2) off end of shaft.
4. Remove Rotor and Seal Plate Assembly (Key No. 5B)
from Pump Body. Do not lose the square-cut O-Ring
(Key No. 5A).
5. Remove Diffuser (Key No. 2A) from Seal Plate (Key No.
5B).
6. Hold Rotor. Unscrew Impeller (Key No. 2B) from Shaft.
7. Remove Shaft from Seal Plate.

Seal Replacement:
1. Use a piece of tubing or copper pipe to press old seal
half out of seal plate (Figure 5A).
2. Use a screwdriver to pry old ceramic ring and rubber
seal ring out of impeller (see Figure 5B).
3. Clean cavity in impeller.
Be sure you do not scratch or nick pol-
ished surfaces of seal, or seal may leak, causing
flooding.
4. Apply a thin coat of non-hardening Permatex to outside
of seal ring. BE SURE that no Permatex gets on pol-
ished seal face. Using a cardboard washer to protect
polished carbon seal face, press new seal half into seal
plate with tubing or pipe (see Figure 6).
5. Using a cardboard washer to protect polished ceramic
seat of rotating half of seal, press seal half into impeller
(see Figure 7).
Pump Reassembly:
1. Slide rubber slinger onto motor shaft; mount seal plate
on end of shaft. Push seal plate onto shaft until ball bear-
ing race is seated in tolerance ring in seal plate cavity.
Take care not to damage seal as it passes over end of
shaft.
2. Screw impeller onto shaft end; do not damage seal face.
3. Reinstall diffuser on seal plate; secure with two screws.
4. Slip spring washer onto long, thin screwdriver blade; use
screwdriver to guide washer into position at rear of motor
housing.
NOTICE: Install spring washer with toes pointing up
(toward end of shaft). Be sure that screwdriver does not
nick insulation on motor windings.
5. With drain hole in seal plate down, slide motor shaft
assembly into place in motor. Toes on spring washer
should ride on shaft end. Seat seal plate in motor hous-
ing flange.
6. Install square-cut O-Ring on diffuser; slide pump body
over diffuser and seal plate until it seats against motor
housing flange. Install 4 nuts on studs and tighten.
7. Reinstall motor brushes (see “Motor Brush Replace-
ment”, Page 4.

LIMITED WARRANTY
Sta-Rite warrants to the original consumer of the products listed below, that they will be free from defects in mate-
rial and workmanship for the Warranty Period from the date of original installation or manufacture as noted.
Product Warranty Period
Water Systems Products – jet pumps, whichever occurs first:
small centrifugal pumps, submersible pumps 1 year from date of original installation, or
and related accessories 2 years from date of manufacture
Con-Aire®tanks 5 years from date of original installation
Epoxy-Line Tanks 3 years from date of original installation
Environmental Products 1 year from date of original installation, or
2 years from date of manufacture
Our warranty will not apply to any product that has been subject to negligence, misapplication, improper instal-
lation or maintenance. In the event a three phase submersible motor is operated with single phase power
through a phase converter, or if three-leg ambient compensated, extra-quick trip overload relays of recom-
mended size are not used, our warranty is void.
Buyer’s only remedy and Sta-Rite’s only duty is to repair or replace defective products (at Sta-Rite’s choice).
Buyer agrees to pay all labor and shipping charges associated with this warranty and to request warranty ser-
vice through the installing dealer as soon as a problem is discovered. If warranty service is requested more than
30 days after the Warranty Period has ended, it will not be honored.
STA-RITE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR CONTINGENT DAM-
AGES WHATSOEVER.
THE FOREGOING WARRANTIES ARE EXCLUSIVE AND IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER EXPRESS WARRANTIES.
IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MER-
CHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, SHALL NOT EXTEND BEYOND THE WAR-
RANTY PERIOD PROVIDED HEREIN.
Certain states do not permit the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages or the placing of
limitations on the duration of an implied warranty, therefore, the limitations or exclusions herein may not apply.
This warranty sets forth specific legal rights and obligations, however, additional rights may exist, which may
vary from state to state.
