ColumnAssemblyto Base
NOTE:Ideally, the baseshould befirmly boltedto thefloor, prior to assemblyof other components.
Themounting surface must beflat, leveland capableof supporting the drill weight.
With the baseona flat levelsurface, bolt onthe Column usingthe 4.M10 Hexhead screws provided
andtighten. Carefullylocatethetable in its support andtighten up with the table lockinghandle.Check
to makesure the column securing set screws, at the column support, are tight. Fitthe crank to the
shaft onthe crank assembly.
Headto Column
NOTE:tt may be necessaryto unscrewthe HeadLock SetScrews slightlyto make surethey do not
protrude internally asthis would preventthe headfrom sliding fully into position. 1. Raisethe head
and locateit ontop of the column.2.Alignthe headwith the baseandfirmly securewith the set screws
using thewrench. Locatethe threefeed handlesand screwthem intothe hub ofthe spindle feedshaft.

InstallingtheChuck
1. Slidethe table up the column and secureit to within 6"of the spindle.
2. Openthe jaws of the chuckto their maximum, using the chuck key supplied.
3. Put apieceof scrapwood onto the tableto protect the chuck nose.
4. Make sureall parts arethoroughly clean, dry,and burr free. Placethe chuck overthe end ofthe
arborand pullthe spindle down usingthe feed handles, pressingthe chuck jaws hardagainstthe
pieceof scrapwood untilthe chuck is securelyin place.
5. Turn ChuckGuard180 degreesandtighten Lock SetScrewsslightly to makesure pinch bolt.
Fittingthe DriveBelts
Undo the BeltTension LockingScrews (oneon either side of the head)andturn the BeltTension

be slippedonwith ease).
Lightly greasethe idler pulleypivot shaft and locatethe idler pulleyassemblyin its' mounting between
the Motor and spindle Pulleys.Consultthe chart insidethe belt cover, and fit the belts in the position
correspondingto spindle/drill speedrequired.
Turn the BeltTensionLevercounter-clockwisesothat tensionisappliedto the belts.Tensioniscorrect
when the belts deflect byapprox. 1/2"attheir centersof run when using reasonablethumb pressure.
Lockthe motor in the positionwith the BeltTension LockingScrews. 1. Theidler pulleywill 'float' so
thattension is appliedequallyto bothbelts. 2. Ifthe beltshould slip while drilling, adjustthe belt

SpindleDepth
Locatedaroundthe spindlefeed shaft is a DepthStop Collar, printed with agraduatedscale. The collar
is capableof turning about the shaft andmay belocked in placeby the locking screw. Thescale is
printed in both inchesandmetric. Toset adrilling depth: 1.With the powerOFF,lowerthe drill bit so
that it contactsthe work, and hold in that position. 2. Loosenthe lockingscrew and turn the collar so
that the measurementfor the depth of hole required is in linewith the pointer (C). Lockthe collar in
this position usingthe locking screw.Thedrill is nowsetto drill holestoyour predetermineddepth,

ChangingDrill Speed
Beforechanging the speed, makesure the machine isswitched OFF,and unplugged.Undothe Belt

REMOVINGTHECHUCK
To removethe chuck, pull the spindledown fully, usingthe feed handles.Theslot in the sideofthe
Quillwill becomevisible. Notethe position of the chuck, perhapsby placinga chalkmark, in linewith
the chuck, onthe column, thenraisethe table sothat it is only aninch or so belowthe position marked.
Placeathick cloth,or similar material, onthetableto catchthe chuck,to preventdamagewhenit drops.
Pull down the spindleonce more, until the slot in the Quilltube is visible. Insertthe drift wedgeinto
the slot andgive it a sharptap, preferablywith a copperhammer. This will breakthe sealbetweenthe
quill tube andthe arbor, allowing the chuck to fall free, on tothe cloth on the table. To disconnectthe
chuckfrom the arbor, give it asharp rapwith a soft headmallet to breakthe taper seal.
NOTE:Morsetaper drills (MTS),may also beusedwith this machine, andare insertedinto theQuill to
