Dear Customer,
STIEGELMEYER would like to thank you for the confidence you have placed in us in de-
ciding to purchase this bed. Each Stiegelmeyer bed has been tested by the manufacturer
for safety and functionality and has left our factory in fault-free condition.
Correct operation and care are necessary to ensure the bed is kept in this excellent condi-
tion over the long-term. Therefore, please read and observe this product information care-
fully. It is a useful aid when assembling and operating the bed. The instruction manual con-
tains all the necessary information to enable you to carry out the complete assembly pro-
cedure, operate the bed easily and safely handle this bed, both for you as the operator and
for your users. This product information is a practical reference book and should be kept
close to hand at all times.
We wish you and your users every success in using this bed. STIEGELMEYER is confi-
dent that with this bed it is making a positive contribution to your work.

Please note: This product documentation is an important basis for properly and
successfully assembling your bed and for assuring that your bed is operated cor-
rectly. Therefore, please take the time to read the information and step by step
guide attentively before you attempt to assemble and use the bed. Please note that
there is a definite order for completing the individual steps. This will become evident
as you read the documentation, and it is important that you proceed in this order.

Safety Instructions

Backrest
•Before adjusting the backrest, make sure that there are no
limbs at risk under the backrest. Risk of crushing!
/Trapping hazard!
•When the backrest is raised, the area behind the backrest
must be kept free. It is particularly important to keep limbs
out of this area. Risk of crushing! /Trapping hazard!
•
The backrest must not be subjected to a weight of more than
90 kg. Risk of breaking!
•Do not sit or bounce on the backrest. Risk of breaking!
Side panels
•Do not sit or bounce on the side panels. Risk of breaking!
Bed extension (optional)
•Subjecting a weight of more than 200 kg to the footboard at
the end of the bed extension will make the bed tip up.
Tipping hazard!
Side tray (optional)
•
The side tray must not be subjected to a weight of more than
5 kg. Risk of breaking!
Fixed board along the side of the bed (optional)
•Do not sit or bounce on the fixed board along the side of the
bed. Risk of breaking!
Patient lifting pole (optional)
•The patient lifting pole must not be exposed to a weight of
more than 75 kg. Risk of breaking!

4 Product Description
4.1 Designated Use
This bed is designed to offer comfortable positioning options for people living in residential
homes, nurses’ homes and retirement homes as well as hotels, rehabilitation centres, dis-
abled facilities and similar institutions. In addition:
•The bed is suitable for people who are 190 cm and/or 210 cm in height.
•When the optional fixed board along the side of the bed is used, the bed is suitable
for persons who are 146 cm in height and upwards only.
•Do not rest the full weight of the body on the backrest when it is raised.
•Do not use candles, cigarettes, tea lights or similar items in bed or on the side tray.
•The maximum safe working load is 225 kg (resident plus accessories).
•The bed is not a medical device and must not be used to as a replacement for a
medical care bed.
This bed may only be used under the operating conditions described in this instruction
manual. Any other use is regarded as not compliant with the intended purpose.
4.2 Components of the Bed
The mattress base is divided into a backrest and a seat section. The backrest is fitted with
a rastomat mechanism. The backrest can be adjusted manually from an angle of 0° to ap-
proximately 30° with the aid of a handle.
The bed has four fixed feet which are attached to the corners of the bed frame.
An approximately 20 cm bed extension can be supplied at the customer’s request.

The bed is made predominantly of steel sections coated with a polyester powder finish or a
zinc or chromium metal finish.
The chassis consists of steel profiles.
The head and footboards and the side panels are made of wood materials.
All surfaces are safe for contact with the skin.

5.2 Attaching the Bed Extension (Optional)
The T-pieces are attached to the mattress base frame in the factory. To assemble the
bed extension, the T-pieces at the foot end must first of all be removed.
The bed extension is attached at the foot end only. Proceed as follows:
1. Loosen the screws and take the T-pieces out.

2. Insert the bed extension into the mattress base frame.
3. Attach the bed extension with two screws.
4. Insert the T-pieces into the bed extension and affix them with twoscrews.
5. Check that all screws have been tightened properly.

−
Insert the screws into the threaded holes in the side panels
(3 to 4 turns).

Insert screws at the places provided on the bed frame .

Press the side panel downwards.

5.5 Attaching the Fixed Board (Optional)
•The fixed board along the side of the bed can be attached to the left or right-hand
side of the bed.
•A side panel is not attached to the side of the bed that is fitted with the fixed board.
•If a side panel is already attached, this must be removed first.
•IMPORTANT! If a fixed board is attached to one side of the bed, this side of the
bed must rest against the wall. Trapping hazard!
•When the optional fixed board along the side of the bed is used, the bed is suitable
for persons who are 146 cm in height and upwards only.
Assembly: To begin with, attach the three mounting brackets (10008) to the bed
frame, then attach the fixed board to the mounting brackets.

5.6 Further Options
The bed can optionally be complemented with useful accessories.
•Patient lifting pole with grab handle (insertable). Maximum loading capacity: 75
kg.
•Side tray (insertable). Maximum loading capacity: 5 kg.

Operation - Backrest

Caution! It is important to read the safety instruction in Chapter 3 before operating the bed.
Caution - Risk of injury! Do not grip the backrest by the frame. Adjust the backrest using
the handle only.
Raising: Grip the handle and raise the backrest in stages.
The backrest can be adjusted in 5 stages . It must audibly click into place at each stage.
Check to ensure that the backrest is firmly locked in position after each adjustment.
Lowering:
•Grip the handleand raise the backrest to its highest position.
•Lower the backrest.

Cleaning
7 Cleaning
NOTICE
−Do not use scouring agents, abrasive cleaning agents or scouring pads. These sub-
stances can damage the surfaces.
−Do not use organic solvents such as halogenated/aromatic hydrocarbons and ketones.
−Do not use acidic cleaning solvents.
−It is essential that the manufacturer’s dosage advice is followed to prevent damaging
the plastic and metal surfaces!
−The bed must not be cleaned automatically in a machine.
−Ensure that after cleaning/ disinfection no liquid residues remain on the metallic parts of
the bed (avoid drops on the edges). Otherwise corrosion cannot be excluded in these
areas in the long term.
−Despite the excellent mechanical resistance, scratches, knocks, etc., which permeate
the entire coating should be resealed using a suitable repair medium to prevent the
penetration of moisture.
For disinfection by wiping, most cleaning and disinfection agents commonly used in institu-
tions or care facilities, such as cold and hot water, detergents, alkaline solutions and alco-
hols, can be used.
These agents may not contain any substances that could change the surface structure or
the adhesive properties of the plastic materials.

Please consult the appropriate manufacturer before using any other agents than those in-
cluded in this list. Only alternative agents with an equivalent composition may be used, to
prevent any damage to the bed as a result.

Servicing
8 Servicing
The Carino bed is maintenance-free; however, we would recommend performing an annu-
al inspection of the following points:
•Condition and good working order of the rastomat mechanism and the backrest.
•Ensure that all connection elements are firmly tightened.
9 Disposal
WARNING
Risk of infection
The operator must ensure that no components of the bed that are to be disposed of are
infectious or contaminated.
9.1 Disposal of the Bed
If the bed is to be disposed of, the plastic and metallic parts must be separated and dis-
posed of properly in accordance with relevant local and national environmental regulations
and legislation of the town or country concerned. If you have any queries, you can contact
your local municipal or commercial waste company or our service department.
9.2 Disposal of Packaging
Packaging must be sorted according to recyclable and other types of waste and recycled
and disposed of in line with the environmental regulations and legislation of the country
concerned. Recycling and disposal are governed in the European Union by the EU Waste
Framework Directive 2008/98/EC.
