Installation, operation and maintenance manual concerns air handling unit type Combini EC manufactured
by Systemair AB. It consists of basic instructions and recommendations concerning the design,
installation, start-up and operation, which shall be obeyed to ensure proper and fail-free operation of the

Installing the unit
Positioning/access
The unit can be installed as a part of the kitchen furniture over the cooker hood (standard 600 mm width,
where cupboard door can be mounted on the hatch of the unit), in separate room, for instance storage
room, laundry room or in the loft space. The unit can be mounted on the floor or hanging on the wall (for
floor installation the unit is mounted on a special bracket). When choosing installation position it should be
taken into consideration that duct runs should be as short and straight as possible.
Installing the unit
The unit is hung on the wall by means of
4 screws through keyholes in the back
plate. See instructions and template
enclosed in the box for positioning of the
screws. Cooker hood to be fixed to the
bottom plate of the unit by means of 4
screws.
The unit can also be mounted on the floor.
Position the unit on a rack or similar if the
spigots in the bottom of the unit are to be
connected. Remember water strap and slope
towards drain, and also that the duct from
cooker hood to the unit should be as short as
possible.

Remember to leave enough room in front of the unit for inspection/service.
When choosing installation position, consideration must be taken that the unit requires regular
maintenance. Floor boards must be mounted up to and under the unit. Lights should be installed. Make
sure that the inspection doors are available for maintenance and service. General maintenance includes
replacing the filters and removing fan motors and exchanger blocks inside the unit for cleaning.
NOTE! Even if great effort has been made to prevent noise (vibration) from the unit, it will never be
completely silent. This should be considered when choosing installation position.
Recommended installation position for the outdoor air intake is away from openings for discharge of stale
ventilation air, kitchen ventilator, central vacuum system, waste water drainage and other pollution
sources like exhaust from traffic etc.

Duct system
Air to and from the Combini EC is via duct system. This duct system is recommended in either galvanized
steel or semi-rigid aluminium. Short connections (max. 1 m) of flexible aluminium ducting can be used
between the duct system and the unit terminations. These must, however, be accessible for changing.
Note! Do not connect tumble dryer directly to the ventilation system.
Note! Grillsfor discharge/roof unit must be mounted according to building regulations in force
Connections
Use ducting and duct connectors, tee-pieces, reducers, bends etc. Secure all joints by means of special
tape or 3 pieces of self-drilling screws per joint.

Condensation/heat insulation
Insulation thickness for condensation insulation should be 25 mm, with plastic diffusion barrier. Insulation
thickness for heat insulation may be 50 mm, with plastic diffusion barrier.

Note! Remember to cover all joints well with insulation and tape.

Diffusers/Louvers
Inlet diffusers
Mount inlet diffusers in bedrooms and living rooms. Use frames to ease the removing of diffusers for
cleaning. Diffusers can be supplied for ceiling or wall installation.

Note! For basic setting of diffusers, open core of the diffuser 5 revolutions from closed position.
Lock by means of centre nut.
Extract louvers
Mount extract louvers in WC, bathroom, utility room etc. and kitchen when separate kitchen ventilator (not
connected to the heat recovery system) is installed. Use frames to ease the removing of diffusers for
cleaning. See fig. 7.
Note! Mount louvers in the ceiling or on the wall as far as possible from door openings.
Note! For basic setting of louvers, open the core 10 revolutions from closed position.
Lock by means of centre nut.
Air circulation
To obtain a satisfactory air circulation in the building, vents or slots must be installed/allowed in or below
doors between rooms.

Fireplace
If a Fireplace is fitted separate provision for fresh air is required in addition to the ventilation System
installed. Speak to the Manufacturer for exact requirements.

Plumbing
Condensation drain
Installation of condensation drain must be made by authorized plumber. Combini EC is supplied with a 10
mm 90 degree connector for condensate. Drain pipe to be lead via frost proof water lock to drain. (Under
kitchen sink to or SVP if unit in loft).

Electrical Connections
Note! All electrical installations must be made by authorized installer and in accordance with
regulations in force.
The Combini EC (pos 1, fig. 11) is controlled from a wall mounted 3 step speed regulator (pos 2, fig.11
below). A separate 3-step speed regulator is used and a 3-wire cable needs to be connected to the speed
regulator (fig.12 below). At the end of that cable a 4 pole male plug, type Ensto NAC41SH.W can be
applied in order to fit the corresponding connector (Ensto NAC42SH.W) on the Combini EC. Make sure
that the cable colours correspond to each other when the two connectors are joined.

Connection to cooker hood
Combini EC is designed for connection to, and for operation from, special cooker hood. The cooker hood
is provided with special plugs for direct connection if the cooker hood is installed under the unit (fig.13).
For remote installation of the cooker hood, use fixed wiring for the mains supply by means of PFXPplastic
cable 3x1,5 mm2 + earth. Use the existing 3-pole Ensto plugs (Ensto NAC32SH.W unit side & Ensto
NAC31SH.W on the side of the cooker hood) as connectors between the unit and the prolonged
cable from the cooker hood. The 4-pole plugs (Ensto NAC42SH.W unit side & Ensto NAC41SH.W on the
side of the cooker hood) are used for the control signal connection. (As an alternative to Ensto plugs,
standard junction box can be applied).

Commissioning
The speed of the supply air fan of Combini EC can be adjusted by turning a knob situated inside the
electrical connection box ( fig.14). The knob, a step-less potentiometer, makes it possible to lower the
supply air fan speed down to 75% of the speed of the extract air fan, thereby ensuring the proper balance
in the unit and building.

Checklist
When the ventilation system is installed, check that:
• The unit is installed with frost proof condensation drain via water lock when condensate tray on
cooker hood is not installed.
• Duct runs to and from the unit are correctly connected.
• The fans are running on min./norm./max. fan speeds and with increasing airflow.
• There is no excessivenoise in the unit or in diffusers/louvers in the living areas.
In addition to the above items every diffuser/louver should be set to the correct airflow.
