INSTALLING THE KEYPAD LIGHT
T2 Systems has developed a new LED light fixture to illuminate the keypad of your Luke®II multi-space
pay station. The light is designed to help the consumer make an easier keypad selection, especially at
night if the unit is installed in a dimly lit location.
This document will guide you through the steps to install the light above your keypad. There will be some
drilling involved on the cabinet cast and door to affix the lighting assembly.
Drill Mounting Holes
Tools and Materials Required
Drill
Drill bits: 9/64in, 3/8in, 1/2in
Round file (for removing burrs)
Felt pen (for marking drill location)
Cardboard sheet, approximately 9x10in (to prevent scuffing the decal and keypad)
Cloth rag or paper towels to catch drill filings
Masking tape
Mask template (see Appendix A)
Zinc-rich paint:
□Contains more than 65 percent zinc powder, for restoring the zinc undercoat protection
after drilling the door:
Brite Zinc –aerosol spray
Rust-oleum –professional galvanizing compound spray
Rust-oleum –automotive galvanizing compound spray
Marine grease (we recommend Ultra Lube®marine grease or Lucas Oil®marine grease):
□For protecting the aluminum alloy cast after drilling
Q-tips (for applying grease)
Protective gloves
Safety goggles

Drill templates:

Steps to Take:
1. Turn off power to the pay station.
2. On the outside of the door, place the Front Cast drill template around the keypad and mark the
three hole locations to be drilled in the cast above the keypad. Remove the template before
drilling the holes so that it can be re-used for multiple pay stations.
Note: If you have a 12-key keypad, center the template around
the keypad.
3. Place a piece of cardboard against the keypad and hold it in place with masking tape. This will
prevent the keypad and decal from getting scuffed during drilling.
4. Drill two holes into the cast using the drill with the 9/64in bit.
5. Drill one hole into the cast using the drill with the 3/8in bit.

6. On the inside of the door, use the cloth rag (or paper towels) to cover the keypad, coin inlet
chute, and coin sensor to prevent metal filings from dropping into the electronic components.
a. If the RFID option is present, temporarily disconnect the data cable if it’s in your way.
7. Use the Door Inside drill template to mark the hole location to be drilled into the door.
8. Using the 1/2in bit, drill one hole into the door. You may want to drill a small pilot hole first to
guide the larger drill bit.

a. Carefully clean away any remaining metal filings.
9. Use the file to remove any burrs from the drilled holes on the cast and door panel (inside and
outside edges).
10. To prevent rust, the hole in the door must be protected with a zinc-rich paint. If using a spray,
use a mask so as to prevent over-spray onto electronic components and cables. Allow 30
minutes for the paint to dry.
A mask template is provided at the end of this document.

11. Since the cast is an aluminum-alloy, it does not need the zinc-rich paint. However, a thin
coating of marine grease is recommended. Carefully apply the marine grease to the three
holes in the front cast using a Q-tip.

2x Screws 8-18 x 3/4in FH Phil SS Drilling Tip
1x Grommet, Rubber for 1/2in Hole
2x Small cable ties
Steps to Take:
1. Install the grommet into the hole on the door panel.
2. Carefully insert the tail end of the flex PCB lighting assembly into the 3/8in hole in the cast, and
feed it through the grommet.
a. It might be easier to feed the mating cable connector through the grommet and out of the
hole in the cast, attach the lighting assembly, and then carefully guide the PCB tail into the
hole and through the grommet.
b. Be sure not to twist or crease the flex PCB as it is being guided through the holes.

5. If not already connected in step 2, connect the small connector to the keypad lighting tail
connector.
6. If the RFID cable was previously detached for access, re-attach it and install a new cable tie to
the anchor.
7. The keypad light cable can also be anchored to the LCD backlight cable with a cable tie.
8. Complete the lighting installation by installing the diffuser on top of the mounting screws and
lighting array.
9. Restore power to your pay station. The keypad light will activate once the pay station starts up.
The light will turn off when the pay station goes into sleep mode and will turn on again when a
key on the keypad is pressed.
