This
unit
includes
an
FM-IF
selector
switch
which
makes
it
possible
to
choose
between
either
the
usual
wide
band
of
the
FM
intermediate
frequency
(“NORMAL”
position),
or
the
“NARROW”
position,
at
which
the
audio
frequency
characteristics
are
not
changed
and
the
band
is
narrow
in
order
to
increase
selectivity.
If,
at
the
“NORMAL”
position,
the
difference
between
the
desired
reception
frequency
and
the
adjacent
frequency
is
300
kHz
and
the
selectivity
is
75
dB,
selectivity
can
be
improved
to
90dB
by
setting
the
selector
to
the
“NARROW”
position.
-
This
circuitry
is
shown
in
figure
2.
When
the
selector
is
set
to
the
“NORMAL”
position,
the
FM-IF
passes
through
CF3,
and
then
from
TR65,
through
C19,
to
TR7.
From
TR8
through
C26,
it
is
then
applied
to
the
IF
amplifier
of
the
next
stage.
When
the
selector
is
set
to
the
“NARROW”
position,
however,
the
transistor
TR/
does
not
operate,
because
no
bias
is
applied
to
its
base.
Conversely
TR6
becomes
operational
when
bias
is
applied.
When
a
narrow-band
FM-IF
signal
is
applied,
from
TR4
and
through
the
muting
IFT,
to
TR6,
TR6
becomes
operational,
the
signal
flows
as
pO
described
in
the
diagram
by
the
symbol
