Dmodule.

2..GENERAL PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Overview
The SE868SY-D Evaluation Kit (EVK) allows the customer to test the functionalities of the
SE868SY-D module.
Note: Please note that this document is provided for marketing
purposes only. Since the SE868SY-D is under development at the
time of this writing, some of the features listed herein might be
subject to change in the final product.

3..EVALUATION KIT DESCRIPTION
Content of the Evaluation Kit
The SE868SY-D Evaluation Kit is provided in the following package:
•An SE868SY-D EVK board
•A USB-A/Mini-USB cable
•A dual-band, L1+L5 active antenna
The kit is complemented by TelitView, a GNSS evaluation software tool, available through
Telit technical support or on the Download Zone portal on the Telit website. For more
information on this software, please refer to 1.5.
EVK Versions
Two different versions of the Evaluation Kit have been released. Unless otherwise
specified, this guide refers to the new EVK, labeled as cs1669e, which includes some
additional features to improve the module testability.
If the user owns an old Evaluation Kit version (cs1669d), the description of the legacy
board can be found in Section 6.
Board Appearance
The EVK is provided with the default jumper configuration, as shown in Figure 1:

5..GETTING STARTED
Supplying the EVK
The EVK is powered by the USB cable: the input 5V is then regulated in four different
stable voltages:
•1.8V to supply the SE868SY-D module.
•1.8V to supply the EVK auxiliary circuitry.
•3.3V to power an external active antenna.
•0.8V-1V selectable to supply the SE868SY-D low power part numbers.
The auxiliary circuitry 1.8V and the 3.3V voltage domains are powered directly by USB,
and can be disabled separately, if necessary, by removing the jumpers on PL108 and
PL109, respectively.
The 1.8V supplying the module and the 0.8V-1V for low power part numbers voltage
domains are enabled only when the switch SW100 is turned ON.
For the standard functioning mode, the jumper on PL119 should be placed on the left
side in 1v8 position (default mode), while for the low power part numbers, the jumper
should be placed on the right side in DC_DC_out position. The two different low voltages
levels (0.8V and 1V), available to support low power product part numbers, can be
selected by using PL117: to select 1V place the jumper on PL117; with no jumper, as per
default configuration, the voltage level is set to 0.8V.
PL102 can be used to insert an ammeter in series with the SE868SY-D supply rail, to
measure the on-board module current consumption (auxiliary circuitry on the EVK is
excluded).
Selecting the Host Interface
The Host Interface (HIF) for the SE868SY-D is selected by checking the status of pins
HIF_SEL_0 and HIF_SEL_1 at power ON. Both signals feature internal pull-down
resistors, therefore the default HIF is a UART. Other HIFs can be selected by pulling up
one of the two signals by placing a jumper on either PL112 or PL116, as detailed in Table
3.

Note: Current consumption will slightly increase when one of the
external pull ups on HIF_SEL_x is enabled.
Jumpers on PL107 and PL115 are not required, as they would just add a second pull-
down resistor in parallel to the internal one.
Reset
The SE868SY-D module can be reset using the switch SW102.
Note: please reset the board when required by flashing procedure,
as indicated in Section 7..
Testing the Receiver
To test the RF performances of the SE868SY-D, a dual band L1+L5 antenna shall be
connected to SO100. The evaluation kit provides an active antenna, which can be directly
supplied by the board itself, but the customer can use a different one.
Warning: In case a passive antenna is used, the jumper on PL111
shall be removed.
The antenna shall be placed facing upwards, in a place with an unimpeded view of the
sky.
TelitView software tool (see paragraph 3.1) can then be used to evaluate the module by
issuing commands and analyzing NMEA output data.

Getting Started –Legacy Board
6.4.1. Supplying the Legacy EVK
The EVK is powered from the USB cable: the input 5V is then regulated into three stable
voltages:
•1.8V to supply the SE868SY-D module.
•1.8V to supply the EVK auxiliary circuitry.
•3.3V to power an external active antenna.
Each of the three voltages can be separately disabled, if necessary, by removing the
jumpers on PL110, PL108, and PL109, respectively.
Since the module features an auto-power-ON mode, it starts booting as soon as a valid
1.8V voltage is present at its VDD18 pin: therefore, connecting the USB cable is sufficient
if the jumper on PL102 is mounted. The same PL102 can also be used to insert an
ammeter in series to the SE868SY-D supply trace, to measure the current consumption
of the module alone, excluding the auxiliary circuitry on the EVK.
6.4.2. Legacy Board - Selecting the Host Interface
The Host Interface (HIF) for the SE868SY-D is selected by checking the status of pins
HIF_SEL_0 and HIF_SEL_1 at power ON. Both signals feature internal pull-down
resistors, therefore the default HIF is a UART. Other HIFs can be selected by pulling up

Jumpers on PL107 and PL115 are not required as they would just add a second pull-down
resistor in parallel to the internal one.
6.4.3. Legacy Board - Testing the Receiver
To test the RF performances of the SE868SY-D, a dual band L1+L5 antenna shall be
connected to SO100. The evaluation kit provides an active antenna, which can be supplied
directly by the board itself, but the customer can use a different one.
Warning: In case a passive antenna is used, the jumper on PL111
shall be removed.
The antenna shall be placed facing upwards, in a place with an unimpeded view of the
sky.
The provided evaluation software allows to analyze the output of the module and send
commands to it.
Warning: In case of concurrent use with cellular technologies, the
customer should take care of filtering the OOB interferences
Differences between Legacy and New Release
The differences with respect to the legacy EVK are indicated and described below.
The main improvements concern the following features:
•On/Off switch;
•Reset Button;
•Coexistence Filter;
•0.8 V/1V DC-DC regulator for low power performances.
