This heating oven must be operated in accordance with the instruction manual and may
only be used for its intended application to ensure the safety of personnel, the
environment and the processed items and material.
The correct setup and installation of the unit, together with the correct realization and
operation of the on-site ventilation system, are crucial to the explosion protection and
increased safety of the system.
Read the instruction manual carefully before using the equipment and comply with the
instructions that it contains to avoid making mistakes and to prevent any personel injury
or damage to property.

General information
The unit complies with the safety requirements of EN 61 010-1:2001.
EN 61326/A2:2001; EN 61326/A3:2003 implemented with respect to radio interference suppression.
In addition to this for the
the German guidelines for the prevention of the hazards of a potentially explosive atmosphere -
explosion protection guidelines (EX-RL), issued by the EN 60079-10:2003 and
EN 60079-14:2003.
Always quote the data on the rating plate when requesting information or ordering spare parts.
This instruction manual contains information about optional items of equipment which
are available but not necessary included in the selected model.
Operating instructions
The operator must provide anybody working on or with this equipment with written instructions for
any operations to be performed. Such instructions must be easy to understand and must be

Field of application
The FT 6060 fresh-air laboratory heating oven has been designed as an item of laboratory
equipment to be used for heating items and materials in the laboratory.
The items or materials to be heated in batches may bear traces of combustible liquid solvents.
These combustible solvents may belong to danger classes II A and II B, temperature classes T 1,
T 2, T 3 and T 4.
Heat treatment of samples or materials with operating temperatures of
5° above the temperature of the fresh air up to 70 °C (T 4) 1) or
5° above the temperature of the fresh air up to 105 °C (T 1, T 2, T 3) 1)
e.g. for drying, ageing, gelling, concentration, analysis, fusing, oxidizing, reducing,
preheating, etc.
The quantity of combustible solvent introduced into the inner chamber is only restricted by the
maximum loading volume of the processed items or material and the loaded weight.
When loading the items or material to be processed, make sure that sufficient clearance is
maintained between the inside walls of the inner chamber and the loaded articles and between
the individual items in order to maintain an adequate free cross section of flow for the current of
air passing through the chamber.
This prevents any local concentration and ensures an even heat rise and penetration of the
loaded articles.
All items must be placed in open containers before being loaded into the chamber.
Refer to the chapter on OPERATION for an example of loading.
The unit has been designed for installation and operation in the following fields:
Laboratories, e.g. in the commercial or industrial sector, schools, universities, hospitals and
biology.
Operating areas subject to fire risk as defined by DIN VDE 0100 Part 720.
Refer to the chapter on TECHNICAL DATA for information about the protection class.
The heating oven has been designed for continuous use.
Protective gloves, goggles, etc. must be made available to the operator.
Zone 1 explosion protection measures have been implemented inside the internal
chamber. The unit must not, however, be used in intrinsically hazardous areas.
The unit has also not been designed to dry hazardous dust or explosive substances.

temperature will not be reached if the temperature of the fresh air is lower than this and/or a
lower voltage is used.

Safety Instructions
Comply with the instructions in this manual and keep it in the vicinity of the unit.
This heating oven must be operated in accordance with the instruction manual and may only be
used for its intended applications to ensure the safety of personnel, the environment and the
processed items and materials.
Before using this equipment, read the instruction manual carefully and comply with the
instructions that it contains to avoid making mistakes and to prevent any personal injury or
damage to property.
The operator must provide anybody working on or with this equipment written instructions for any
operations to be performed. Such instructions must be easy to understand and must be available
in the language of the respective personnel.
The unit may only be used by suitably qualified, trained personnel.
Check that the setting of the temperature class selector switch is suitable for the combustible
solvent used on the articles to be heated before starting the heat treatment process.
The key for the temperature class selector switch must be kept by a responsible member of staff
to prevent unauthorized operation.
Children must be kept away from the equipment at all times.
If the unit is damaged in any way (e.g. defective seals), this may jeopardize the explosion
protection of the equipment. In this case, the unit may only be started up when the damaged
safety facilities have been repaired by qualified personnel, when the explosion protection
measures have been checked and when the unit has resumed its safe state.
Apart from the instructions in this manual, the respective national regulations must also be
The applicable national environmental regulations must be observed for the extraction of exhaust
gases that are produced during heat treatment. Suitable measures must be implemented to
ensure that such gases are safely led outside without endangering individuals.
Check the mains lead and connector for damage before plugging into the socket-outlet. If there
are any signs of damage, do not connect the unit up to mains.
The voltage quoted on the rating plate (rated voltage) must agree with the mains supply voltage.
Protective gloves, goggles etc. must be made available to the operator.
- RISK OF BURNING - The surfaces around the opening of the inner chamber become hot at
high operating temperatures. Avoid contact with these surfaces.
Any work to be conducted on the electrical equipment of the unit may only be performed by a
qualified electrician. The unit must be disconnected from the mains supply before commencing
service or repair work.
Only use approved accessories and approved genuine spare parts. The use of any other parts
may result in unforeseen problemsn and should be avoided under all circumstances.
The serviceability and safety of the unit can only be guaranteed if the necessary tests,
maintenance, servicing and repair work is carried out by the Thermo service personnel or other
agencies who are authorized to act on our behalf.
Thermo Electron LED GmbH cannot accept any liability for any damage that occurs as a
result of improper use or repair work, which has not been performed by Thermo service centers,
or if parts other than the approved genuine spare parts/accessories are used.

Unpacking the unit
Unpack the unit, remove the transport safety fixtures from the inner chamber and remove any
dirt or dust which may have accumulated in transit.
Transport
If the unit is damaged in any way (e.g. defective seals), this may jeopardize the explosion
protection of the equipment. In this case, the unit may only be started up when the damaged
safety facilities have been repaired by qualified personnel, when the explosion protection
measures have been checked and when the unit has resumed its safe state.
Handle the unit with care. Avoid jarring and protect against damage.
Do not lift by the door handle, the door itself, the control unit, the ventilation/inert gas connectors
or the power lead.

Installation
Installation location requirements:
Dry, the ambient air humidity should be within the normal range of 60 to 70 %
relative humidity. Condensation should be avoided if possible. If condensation has formed
on the unit following a change of location or during transportation, for example, wait until the
unit has dried out completely before putting into operation.
The ambient air should not contain excessive amounts of dust (comply with the
instructions in the chapter on MAINTENANCE).
The ambient temperature and the temperature of the fresh air should not exceed 40 °C.
The room in which the unit is installed must be equipped with an adequate monitored
ventilation system in order to reduce the risk of explosion of the vapours / air
mixtures released when the processed articles are loaded and unloaded to a
minimum.
The unit may not be installed in enclosed spaces without ventilation facilities.
If several units are to be installed in the same room, it may be necessary to provide
additional ventilation facilities in addition to the adequate ventilation system
