Tools-Model assemblycan be much easierif theproper

used to assemble our prototype models. As you will
notice, many household tools can be utilized during
construction.
Engine The Thunder TigerPRO-46 and F-54S are the
ideal engines for this airplane. These quiet running
engines are easy tostart, require no special break in
periods, are very easy tomaintain and will lastfor years.
Flight Equipment There are several “support” items
that youwill need to purchasein orderto getyour engine
running andyour plane in theair.These arelisted atthe

minute and 30-minute epoxy to cutdown onassembly

PARTS CHECK LIST WING
1. Remove aileronfrom thewing, CAthree hingeson the
aileron.
2. Next attach theaileron on tothe wing andapply CAto
the hingearea. Makesure theaileron isfirmly secured
in place.
3. With the wing panel upside down, locate the servo well
and cut an X from corner to corner by using an hobby knife.
4. Use a sealing iron to tackdown thecovering inside
the servowell.
5. Secure the aileron servo in place, the hatchcover
shown isfor leftwing.
Connect servo to RX and turn on radio tomake sure
servo isin neutralposition thensecure thecontrol horn.
6.Attach the12" aileronextension leadto the servo and
tape theconnector toprevent fromloosening. Locatea
string which is in the servo well, tie the stringon the
connector anduse masktape totape theconnector so it
is easierto passthrough theribs.

WING WING
7. Locate the servowire exithole andremove covering
on the top wing nearwing root. UseNeedlenose Pliers
or Tweezers totake thestring outof thehole.
8. Drill four 1/16"(1.5mm) holes atfour corners. Secure
the servo case in place with 2x8mm washer wood
screws.
9. Install the control horn in place withtwo 2x 15mm
screws.
10. Threadthe clevis onthe aileron pushrodthen insert
the Z-bend end to servo horn and snapthe clevison
control horn. Adjustthe aileronwhen inneutral position,
finally install a piece of silicone tube tohold clevisin
place firmly.
11.Locate the three Dihedral WingJoiners and epoxy
the threeDihedral Joinerstogether.
12. Trial fit the joiners in each wing panel. If needed,
sand theedges lightlyso thatthe joinerfits in each wing
half smoothly.
13. Mixup anample amount of30-min. Epoxy andapply
to the wing root ribs oneach wing panel andDihedral
Joiner and make sure you haveplenty insidethe wing
joiner slot. Slide thewings together, tape around the
joint, andwipe offany excessepoxy.Set asidefor 1hour.
14. Trial fit and center the wing in fuselage,make the
drill mark where is1"(25mm) to the trailing edge and
center line.
15.Drill 1/8"(3mm)pilot holefirst. Removethe wingthen
enlarge holeup to1/4"(6.5mm) onthe wing.
16. Enlargewing mountholes to5/16"(8mm) theninstall
the blindnut fromthe bottom.
17. Trail securing the wingin placewith twonylon wing
bolts.
18. Gluethe radiatorin placeas wellas the scoop.

TAIL TAIL
19. Trim thefairing andCA the fairingin place.
20. Place the verticalfin inplace thendraw lines along
with thefin rooton fuselagetail.
21. Cut the covering inside the line you drew about
1/32" (1mm)then peelaway thecovering.
22. Epoxy the vertical fin in place. Nextcut awaythe
covering atthe rearfuselage where stablocated aswell
as thecovering ofjoiner slot.
23. Insert and centerthe horizontaltail inplace. Draw
lines alongthe fuselageon thehorizontal tail.
24. Removethe tailthen carefullycut theline inside the
lines you draw about 1/32" (1mm). Peel away the
covering.
25. Epoxy the horizontal tail in place with the joiner
attached.
26.CAthree hingeson eachelevator.
27. Next attach the elevator on horizontal tail and
secure the elevatorwith CAglue. Make sureelevators
move freely.
28. Locate two holesat thebottom tail,install tailgear
then secure the tail gear with3x15mm and 3x 12mm
wood screws.
29. CAthree hingeson therudder.
30. Trial fitthe rudderon verticalfin andtail geartorque
rod.Apply CAglue whensatisfied. Makesure therudder
moves freeafter cured.

LANDING GEAR OBL POWER UNIT
31. Cutthe coveringat thelanding geararea as shown.
32. Locate the fixedgear mountand landinggear wire.
Insert thewire inplace.
33. Trail fitthe landinggear mountin place.Remove the
mount thenapply epoxy and gluethe gearmount firmly
in place. Ironthe covering onthe landing gearmount.
34. Use mounting strap as drilling guide then drill
5/64"(2mm) holes. Next secure the landinggear with
3x12mm wood screws.
35. Securethe wheelon landinggear with3x5mm screw
and collar.
36. Trim thevacuum formedwheel doorand retaineras
shown.
37. Securethe wheeldoor in place withthe retainerby
using theCA glue.
38. Installthe Outrunner(Thunder Tiger OBL36/07-46A
recommemended) on the OBL motor mount with four
sink head screws.
39. Installthe OBLmotor assembly on firewallwith four
6/32 x18mmWasher Screw.
41.Install the propellerthe spinner asshown then leave
2~3mm clearancebetween cowland spinnerbackplate.
Next drill 1/16"(1.5mm) holes then securethe cowl with
six 2x8mm washerwood screws.
42. Trim theexhaust ventand CAit onthe cowl.
Please skip topage 16 ifNitro Power Unitis used.
40. Trim thecool airinlet forbest performance.

RADIO CANOPY
44. Inline with thepushrod outer tube,use control horn
as template to drill two 2mm holes then secure the
control hornwith two2x 20mmscrews andbackplate.
45. Locate the straight threaded end, Z bend threaded
end, inner tube and clevis then make sure one of inner
tube is 20-3/4" (527mm). Thread the Z-bend threaded
end first then insert the inner tube to the outer tube,
next thread the straight threaded end and the clevis.
Snap theclevis onthe controlhorn.
46. Dothe same procedure onelevator make sure the
inner tubeis 17.5"(445mm) in length.
47. Installthe servoin placeas shown. The topservo in
the photo is elevator servo. Thebottom one is rudder
servo. Adjust the pushrod when servos arein neutral
position.
48. Remove the Quick-Access Cover then secure the
Battery (14.8V 4000mAh recommended) with two
nylon ties. Refer the manual of Speed Control and
properly connect the Speed Controller, Receiver and
Battery. Protect the receiver with foam and secure the
receiver in fuselage. Insert a piece of foam after the
firewall, this is to prevent the battery from damage if
battery hitthe screwswhen heavylanding orcrash.
49. Cut away the covering on therear radiator. Ifuser
installs theengine instead of theelectric motorthen you
may skillthis step.
50. Locate and trimthe RadiatorVentthen CAthe vent
in place.
51. Route the antenna through the fuselage andexit
from the radiator vent. Tape the antennato the tailas
shown.
52. Firstlyapply instrument paneldecal in place. Next
trim the cockpit along the molded lines thenglue itin
the fuselage.Finally glue on theCap'n Eddy.
53. Trim thecanopy andapply canopydecal as shown.
54. Securethe canopyon fuselagewith thedecal.
43. Cut away the covering of elevator and rudder
pushrod exit holes on two side of rear fuselage.
Pull the outertube out alittle bit then CA theouter tube
in place.

Engine Installation
NITRO POWER UNIT
57. Locatethe enginemount hardware, then installthe
engine mount onfirewall with four6/32 x 24mmscrews.
58. Measure from the firewall to the front of thrust
washer at117mm(4-9/16"). Mark the enginemounting
hole position onthe engine mounts.
59. Secure theengine with four3x 18mm woodscrews.
60. Installthe guidetube inthe fuselage.Epoxy the tube
in place.
61. Installthe throttlepushrod. You mightneed to screw
off thethrottle lever first then attach toZ-bend throttle
pushrod end. Bendthe pushrod forsmooth movement.
62. Locatethe fueltank accessoriesthen assemblethe
fuel tank.
63. Installthe fueltank inplace thensecure it with nylon
tie band. Noteorientation of thetank.
64. Secure theEZ connector onthe servo hornwith M2
washer and M2nut. Make surethe connector isrotate
freely. ApplyCA onM2 nutfrom loosening.
65. Secure the throttle servo inservo tray theninstall
the servo hornas shown.Adjust the throttle and secure
the pushrodwith 3x3mmsetscrew.
66. Use a piece of paper and draw the exhaust port
position onthe paper.
Youmay need toenlarge drawing alittle bit.
55. Refer to page 21and apply alldecal in place.Next
glue on themachine guns.

68. Trim awaythe drewarea andtrial fitthe muffler.
69. Trial fitthe muffler, nexttrim thecowl wheremight
contact carburetor.
70. DrillGlow Plugignition hole,needle valvehole and

71. Install the propeller and spinner then secure the
cowl with six2x8mm wood screws.
74. Locatea plywoodtemplate, place iton the landing
gear areathen drawlines alongthe edgeof the template
on thewing.

75. Slightly cut away the coveringof theline youdrew.

76. Use hobby knifeand removethe plankingalong the
laser cut lines.
77. Use hobby knife cutthe wing root planking as shown.

78. Locate four pieces plywood then CA two pieces
together,next gluethis servomount inplace.
67. Next attach the cowl in place, make sure drive
washer is exposedabout 2~3mm fromthe cowl. Make
marks onthe cowlbase onthe drawingon the paper.

72. Installthe switch on fuselage, properly connectall
wires. Next wrapthe receiver andbattery with foamand
secure them infuselage.

RETRACT DECAL
81.ThreadM2 nutand retract linkto pushrod, nextattach
to theservo horn. Itmight need timeto adjustthe length
and tension of the wire so retract gear could work
smoothly. Finally attached the E Clip and secure the
servo horn onthe servo.
82.Trim andglue the wheelwell in place
83. CA the wheel door retainer on the landing gear.
Make sure the wheel door accommodateto thewheel
well andretract workssmoothly.
80. Connect the retract gear pushrod then threadthe
pushrod tothe retractservo thensecure theretract gear
in placewith four3x16 sinkscrews.
Your P-51D isnow ready to fly, carefully set up the
control throws and balance your planewell beforethe
flight; nevertake chancesor rushfly yourP-51D.

A Note On Batteries
Congratulations
Set the control throws as followings for a starting point. After you
familiar with its flying characteristics then these control throw can
be tailored to fit your flying style.
IMPORTANT - Do not attempt to fly your model before
completing this very important section. Amodel that is not
properly balanced will be unstableand could cause serious
damage and/or injury. Adjust the battery location or add
weight as neededto achieve level balance.
Center of Gravity
The batteries arethe heartof your radio system. Make sure
you have fully charged batteries! With recharge-able
batteries, follow the manufacturers instructions to make
sure the batteries are fully charged, especial the first time
the radio is used. We would recommend you use larger
capacity(1000mAh NiMH battery for Nitro version,4000mAh
Lipo battery for Electric version) ifyou use high performance
servos as theywill drawmore currentthan ordinary servos.
If there is not a chartered club field in your community,
you will need tofind a large area freeof obstructions, and
has a smooth grass or asphalt surface to be used as a
runway. Forsafetysake, itshould be located wellaway from
houses, buildings, schools, power linesand airports.If you
will be flying within 6 miles of anairport, you should check
with the airportmanager beforeflying yourmodel.
Generally, the best place to fly your modelis atanAMA
(Academy of ModelAeronautics) charteredclub field. Your
local hobby dealer cantell youif thereis sucha clubin your
area orwrite theAMAfor information. It isalso agood idea
to jointhis organization before flying your model sincethey
offer liability insurance that can protect youif yourmodel
causes damage or injury toothers.
