Wall mounting:
Your tiptel 330/331 is prepare for easy wall mounting. Fix two roun hea screws 3.5 x 40 with
a owel S6 horizontally on the wall. The screw hea s must have a istance of about 7 mm from
the wall. Now hook your tiptel 330/331 into the two screw holes at the bottom of the housing.
Connection:
The telephone answering machine is elivere with a telephone cor an an AC a apter.
Plug the small plug of the AC a apter into the 16V AC jack on the rear of the evice.
Plug the AC a apter into a 230V AC power outlet.
Plug the small plug of the telephone cor in the "LINE" jack. The bigger plug is to be
plugge in the telephone wall socket.
If you o not have a telephone wall socket, please contact your local telephone company.
This evice is inten e for connection to analogue telephone lines connecte to the public tele-
phone network. tiptel 330/331 allows a configuration with subsequent peripherals.

Your answering machine tiptel 330/331 provi es a pre-recor e OGM. By this, telephone calls
can be answere right after installation (see above). Just press the ANSWER mo e button.
To ay, the use of telephone answering machines is a aily routine for a vance people. The
procurement of an answering machine results in the a vantage of a permanent telephone ser-
vice. You will always be present for the caller an you will always know who trie to contact you
uring your absence. By the remote control functionality, your answering machine becomes a
flexible tool. Even if you are not at home or in your office you can control the functions of the
evice, play back incoming messages or a apt your outgoing message to your current nee s –
remotely. This service can be use worl -wi e, from any telephone.
Ho to optimise the use of your ans ering machine
- If you only wish to inform the caller an if you o not nee the name, telephone number, the
reason for the call etc, just recor an outgoing message „without" incoming recor ing (only
announcement) an switch on the answering mo e. Only callers who know the message
co e will be able to leave an incoming message.
- If you request information such as name, telephone number, reason for the call etc by the
caller, recor an outgoing message "with" incoming recor ing + final announcement. Then
switch on the answering mo e an replay the recor e messages later.
- If you o not want to be isturbe by incoming calls, recor an outgoing message with inco-
ming recor ing an final announcement. Then switch on the answering mo e. If you a just
the volume you can hear the incoming message while it is recor e . Shoul you wish to
answer the call, just pick up the han set an take over the call personally. Shoul there be
an incoming call using the VIP co e, your tiptel 330/331 informs you by a beep.

Helpful hints
- You have the option to recor several in ivi ual outgoing messages. As an example you
coul use outgoing message number 1 as a stan ar announcement an outgoing messa-
ge number 2 to refer to current events. Your stan ar outgoing message will be retaine an
there will be no nee to recor it again. The time available for the recor ing per announce-
ment is 2 minutes.
- By using the time control you can welcome the caller either with a "goo morning" in the mor-
ning or "goo evening" in the evening.
- If you want to retain the content of important telephone conversations, select the "conversa-
tion recor ing" function. The conversation is recor e an can be playe back at any time.
The above examples just give you a rough i ea about the wi e range of applications. They
shoul help you to use as many of the a vantageous functions as possible provi e by your
tiptel 330/331.
Besi es, if you are intereste in the exact time a message was left for you, this is no problem for
your tiptel 330/331. A voice ay an time stamp provi es precise ata for each incoming mes-
sage.
Are you familiar ith the advantages of remote control?
- If you wish to know whether a message was left uring your absence, use the next phone to
call your answering machine an activate the remote interrogation function. If you i not
un erstan the message or if you wish to take notes, choose the function repeat or stop of
your remote beeper (or a tone ialling telephone).
- If you inten to inform people where to contact you while you are away, use the next phone
to change your outgoing message in icating your current location or telephone number by
the remote change function.
- If you want to know what is happening in the area aroun your answering machine, just call
your answering machine an activate the room monitoring function. The answering machine
then activates the microphone an through the telephone han set you can hear what is hap-
pening aroun the evice. This practical feature can be use as a telephone babysitter or as
an acoustic monitoring of the surroun ings.
Are you familiar ith the function of a remote pre-interrogation free of charge?
You can program your tiptel 330/331 in a way that if you call your answering machine it picks up
after the first ringing tone in the case that new incoming messages have been recor e . In the
case that no new incoming messages have been recor e , there will be 4-6 ringing tones until
the answering machine picks up. This in icates that a remote interrogation is not necessary as
no incoming messages have been recor e .
Are you familiar ith the advantages of message transfer (only tiptel 331)?
Enter your pager number or the telephone number where you can be reache . Tiptel 331 will
automatically call you informing you that an incoming message has been recor e . You can then
use the remote interrogation function to play this message back.

Examples of outgoing messages
General information
For most callers it is iscouraging when they hear a message from a telephone answering
machine instea of speaking to somebo y personally. In ee , this is often only a question of the
recor e outgoing message. If you are creative an sensitive regar ing this announcement,

People successfully using telephone ans ering machines recommend:

Factory pre-set (ans er mode off)/outgoing message
In the factory pre-set the evice isplays the time. The LED in icator is off or blinks at short inter-
vals (when the LED in icator blinks at short intervals in the factory pre-set this means that new
or not yet playe back incoming messages exist). No calls are answere in the factory pre-set
mo e.
Remark:
If the complete isplay blinks in the factory pre-set mo e, the time has to be set.
Recording the outgoing message

The final announcement is playe back if the caller excee s the programme recor ing time for
incoming messages, makes pauses that are longer than 8 secon s of if the recor ing capacity
is excee e .

Remark:
Your telephone answering machine has a scanning function which allows you to increase the
playback spee without changing the pitch of the caller’s voice. In this way you can play back
many incoming messages in a short time.

tiptel 330/331 has a "speaking" ay an time stamp informing you about the exact time an ate
an incoming message was recor e . If you want to check whether the ate an the time settings
are correct you can play back information. Shoul the ay an time not be correct you can pro-
gram those (see programming parameters).
Even in the case of a power failure or if the evice is isconnecte from the power supply the
clock works on for one ay without loss of ata. If your answering machine is isconnecte from
the power supply for a longer perio , ate an time have to be programme again (the time
shown in the isplay is 00:00 an the LED in icator blinks).

You can determine the follo ing programmable parameters:
Maximum recor ing time: Here you can program the maximum recor ing time

ming message: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 minutes or en less.
Number of ringing tones: In icates after how many ringing tones the answering
machine will pick up: 1 – 8 ringing tones as well as 1 –
4 an 1 – 6 ringing tones. Only when 1 – 4 or 1 – 6 rin
ging tones are programme , a remote incoming mes
sage interrogation is possible. This means that the
answering machine picks up only after 4 or 6 ringing
tones if no new incoming messages have been recor-
e . If new messages exist the evice picks up after
just one ringing tone.
Remote control co e: The remote control co e is a 4- igit number between
0001 an 9999.
The remote control operation is switche off if co e
number 0000 is programme .
Remote erase: Yes/no (see remote operation)
Room monitoring: Yes/no (see remote operation)

The L D indicator lights up and
the recording time is informed by
a synthesised voice. The coun-
ter for the number of incoming
recordings and calls is displayed
when outgoing message "with"
incoming recording was selec-
ted, e. g. 02:03. This means that
there have been 2 incoming
messages and 3 calls during
your absence. You may screen
incoming calls. By picking up the
handset you can take over the
call personally. The L D indica-
tor blinks if incoming messages
have been recorded. "AO"
(announcement only) is display-
ed if you selected outgoing mes-
sage "without" incoming recor-
ding. The number of calls can
be taken from the two digits on
the right. If there are incoming
recordings not played back or
information was recorded,
the display shows the num-
ber of calls not yet played
back instead of "AO"!
Further calls will not be answe-
red up by the answering machi-
ne. The display shows the time
again. The L D indicator will
blink as long as the recorded
messages have not been play-
ed back.
In the telephone answering mo e, your tiptel 330/331 answers incoming calls. It picks up after
the programme number of ringing tones. When the answering mo e is on, the LED in icator
lights up or blinks at short intervals (if the LED in icator blinks at short intervals you have new
an not yet playe back messages).
The number of calls can be taken from the two igits on the right. The number of recor e inco-
ming messages can be taken from the two igits on the left.
Ans ering mode on/off
Be sure that there is sufficient recor ing capacity available.
If necessary, you can erase in ivi ual or all ol er incoming messages.
Be sure that your outgoing message is complete. The pre-recor e OGM is automatically sel-
ecte for the initial operation as this is the factory pre-set. Thus, it can be use imme iately.

answering machine becomes an "electronic mailbox".

Playback of incoming messages
You can start the playback of incoming messages as well as the abbreviate playback if the
answering mo e is on. After the playback, the evice switches to the factory pre-set, i. e. the
answering mo e is not resume automatically.
Message function
By the message co e, it is possible to leave a message also if the outgoing message of your tip-
tel 330/331 is an "announcement only" message. To o so, call your answering machine an wait
until the announcement starts. Sen your 4- igit message co e (from 0001 – 9999) by the remo-
te beeper or a tone ialling telephone. A signal tone is hear when the answering machine i en-
tifie your message co e an you can now recor your message. If there is no reaction after
entering the message co e, please repeat the entry (press keys for about 1 secon , pause of
about 1 secon after the in ivi ual numbers). The function is eactivate when the co e is 0000.
VIP function
When you o not want to be isturbe by the telephone, the answering machine will answer your
calls an still leaves it up to you whether you want to be reache by privilege callers. By the
VIP co e your tiptel 330/331 can inform you if a privilege person wants to talk to you personal-
ly. Let the privilege callers have your 4- igit VIP co e (0001 – 9999). The caller must enter this
co e from the remote beeper or a tone ialling telephone uring the OGM or a following mes-
sage. If the VIP co e was i entifie successfully, the microphone of your tiptel 330/331 emits a
60 secon s attention signal. During this time you can pick up the han set an answer the call
personally. This function is switche off when the co e is 0000. Even after the 60 secon s, the
caller still has the possibility to leave a message. By pressing the key "8", the caller can stop the
attention signal early.
Programming the message and VIP codes
The message an VIP co es must be entere consecutively. The remote control co e, the mes-
sage co e an the VIP co e must iffer in or er to be able to istinguish between the functions.
