FOREWORD
This section describes the objectives, audience and conventions of the Top Global
MB5000 User Guide.
Objectives
This document explains the steps for initial setup and basic configuration of the MB5000.
This document also provides troubleshooting information and detailed specifications.
Audience
This document is for the person installing and configuring the MB5000 for the first time.
The installer should be familiar with network structures, terms and concepts.
Conventions
This document uses the following conventions to convey instructions and information:

Means reader take note. Notes contain helpful suggestions or references to
materials not contained in this manual.
Warning
The warning symbol means danger. You are in a situation that could

1 Introduction
MB5000 is the most cost effective 3rd generation (3G) cellular solution for SMB, Small
Office and Home Office (SOHO) Internet access and for Enterprise WAN back up. The
products are simple to use and easily scalable. MB5000 is a 3G router based on our
MobileBridge™ platform technology.
This guide will help you to know how to connect MB5000, set it up, and configure it to
work.
The MB5000 comes with three different models:
1) The Red-Box (MB5000R), the only MB5000 model comes with built-in Wi-Fi capability
2) Kiosk Router (MB5000K), default DHCP/NAT enabled for always-on wireless Internet
connection
3) Cellular Bridge (MB5000C), default in Bridge Mode, require a router or CPE to initiate
PPPoE in order to establish the Internet connection.

2 Installing the MB5000
Installing the MB5000 is easy. Follow the quick steps below to power up your wireless
network:
Verify kit content;
Write down product SN and MAC from back label;
Power up the MB5000;
Monitoring LED Indicators;
Initialize the MB5000 unit
2.1 Verify Kit Contents
The MB5000 comes with three different models, only the RedBox MB5000R has built-in
Wi-Fi and it is enabled by default. Wi-Fi is not available in both the Kiosk Router MB5000K
and Cellular Bridge MB5000C.
1) The RedBox (MB5000R), this model comes with built-in Wi-Fi capability
2) Kiosk Router (MB5000K), DHCP/NAT is enabled by default for always-on wireless
internet
3) CellBridge (MB5000C), Bridge Mode is enabled by default, which requires a router or
CPE to initiate PPPoE in order to establish internet connectivity.

MB5000R kit includes the following components, similar to those depicted in Figure 2-1.

The MB5000K and MB5000C are available for OEM/ODM customers and are only
intended for vertical and enterprise market. Thus they are available in bulk shipment only.

2.2 Write Down Product Identification
Before you proceed with your MB5000 installation, please write down and keep the
following MB5000 information on the MB5000 label:

zMAC address

The MB5000 power supply accepts any input AC voltage in the range of 100-240 VAC.
2.4 LED Indicators
MB5000 has four two-color LEDs to indicate the working status. The following table shows
the status when the MB5000 is configured successfully and running properly.

2.5 Initialize the MB5000 Unit
1. Connect MB5000 with your computer, there are two ways to connect MB5000 with
your computer:
I. Connect your computer to MB5000 using an Ethernet cable or a hub and
your computer is set with “Automatic IP” configuration.
II. Alternatively, you can connect your computer to MB5000 with wireless LAN
(available for MB5000R only).

a) Enable the Wi-Fi interface in your laptop or PC. Make sure it is ready to
work.
b) Set your computer to “Automatic IP” configuration.
c) Scan WLAN networks, and connect to the network named as the SN of
MB5000,
2. Validate that your computer has got IP address from the MB5000, then open the web
browser and enter http://172.16.0.1. Press Enter then the MB5000 login screen appears
(Figure 2-4 login window). Enter the username/password (default is public/public), and
click OK, the home web page appears (Figure 2-5home page).

If you want to do a quick installation, you can continue to read the content in this chapter.
Otherwise, if you want to make a custom installation, please go to Chapter 3 directly.
3. Click “Wizard” on the home page. And click “Enter”. The “Step 1” page appears
(Figure 2-6 Wizard - Basic Information).

You can change the IP of MB5000 or use the default values. Then click “Next”. Go to “Step
2” page (Figure 2-7Wizard – Wireless LAN).

You can set the “Network name”, “Association Security” and related “Network Key” with
the values you prefer. Then click “Next”, go to “Step 3” page (Figure 2-8 Wizard - Internet
Access).

Change “Card Status” to “Enable”, type correct “Phone Number”, “User Name” and
“Password” (If you are using a GPRS/UMTS/EDGE network, you will need to input “CID”,
“APN”), then click button “Next”, the following configuration page appears (Figure
2-9Wizard - Finish).

Check the settings and click “Submit”, MB5000 will reboot automatically.

3 Management
3.1 Overview
MB5000 embeds a WEB server for WEB-based management. It is so-called webGUI in
MB5000, as well as in this document. This section will illustrate how to visit MB5000’s
webGUI.
1. Open your browser and enter the MB5000’s IP address in the address bar.
2. Press the ENTER key. The MB5000 Login dialog box appears.

Note:
Default user name: public
Default password: public
3. After you input the right username and password, the home page of MB5000 web
site will appear (Figure 3-2).

The whole page consists of 3 main spaces:
¾Upper title and shortcut space: display the most common used function page
shortcuts;
¾Left menu space: display main 8 categories of the function menu for MB5000;
¾Right working space: display the detailed configuration pages for the function menu.

The Reboot operation here will save all of the changed settings (if any) to the device
before restarting the MB5000. Click the “Yes” button, the device will then reboot. During
the reboot process, the power LEDs will blink with amber color for a while, and then turn
green.

Note:
After configured all the parameters you need, reboot the MB5000. Then the
new configurations will become effective.

3.3 Page Operation
9All of the MB5000 functions can be configured and become effective by going through
the following 3 steps: page content editing Æsubmit Æreboot;
9Once every page is submitted, the system will confirm the page content, then notify
the user to reboot the MB5000 to make the configuration effective;
