startingandoperatingtheequipment.
•Disengagethedrivetoattachmentswhentransportingor
whennotmachineisnotinuse.
•Shutofftheengineanddisengagethedrivetoattachments
beforethefollowing:
–Refueling
–Makingaheightadjustment,unlessyoucanmakethe
adjustmentfromtheoperator'sposition
•Reducethethrottlesettingbeforeshuttingofftheengine
and,iftheenginecomeswithafuel-shutoffvalve,turn
thefueloffattheconclusionofmowing.
•Keephandsandfeetawayfromthecuttingunits.
•Lookbehindanddownbeforebackinguptobesureof
aclearpath.
•Slowdownandusecautionwhenmakingturnsand
crossingroadsandsidewalks.
•Donotoperatethemachinewhiletired,ill,orunderthe
inuenceofalcoholordrugs.
•Lightningcancausesevereinjuryordeath.Ifyousee
lightningorhearthunderinthearea,donotoperatethe
machine;seekshelter.
•Turnonashingwarninglights,ifprovided,whenever
travelingonapublicroad,exceptwheresuchuseis
prohibitedbylaw .
RolloverProtectionSystem
(ROPS)—UseandMaintenance
•TheROPSisanintegralandeffectivesafetydevice.Use
theseatbeltwhenoperatingthemachine.
•Becertainthattheseatbeltcanbereleasedquicklyin
theeventofanemergency.
•Checktheareatobemowed.
•Checkcarefullyforoverheadclearances(i.e.,branches,
doorways,electricalwires)beforedrivingunderany
objectsanddonotcontactthem.
•KeeptheROPSinsafeoperatingconditionby
periodicallythoroughlyinspectingfordamageand
keepingallmountingfastenerstight.
•ReplaceadamagedROPS.Donotrepairorrevise.
•DonotremovetheROPS.
•AnyalterationstoaROPSmustbeapprovedbythe
manufacturer.
SafeHandlingofFuels
•Toavoidpersonalinjuryorpropertydamage,use
extremecareinhandlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremely
ammableandthevaporsareexplosive.
•Extinguishallcigarettes,cigars,pipes,andothersources
ofignition.
•Useonlyanapprovedfuelcontainer.
•Neverremovethefuelcaporaddfuelwiththeengine
running.
•Allowenginetocoolbeforerefueling.
•Neverrefuelthemachineindoors.
•Neverstorethemachineorfuelcontainerwherethereis
anopename,spark,orpilotlight,suchasonawater
heateroronotherappliances.
•Neverllcontainersinsideavehicleoronatruckor
trailerbedwithaplasticliner.Alwaysplacecontainerson
theground,awayfromyourvehicle,beforelling.
•Removeequipmentfromthetruckortrailerandrefuelit
ontheground.Ifthisisnotpossible,thenrefuelsuch
equipmentwithaportablecontainerratherthanfroma
fueldispensernozzle.
•Keepthenozzleincontactwiththerimofthefueltank
orcontaineropeningatalltimesuntilfuelingiscomplete.
•Donotuseanozzlelock-opendevice.
•Iffuelisspilledonclothing,changeclothingimmediately.
•Neveroverllthefueltank.Installthefuelcapand
tightenitsecurely.
MaintenanceandStorage
•Keepallnuts,boltsandscrewstighttobesurethe
equipmentisinsafeworkingcondition.
•Neverstoretheequipment,withfuelinthetank,insidea
buildingwherefumesmayreachanopenameorspark.
•Allowtheenginetocoolbeforestoringinanyenclosure.
•Toreducetherehazard,keeptheengine,
silencer/mufer,batterycompartmentfuelstoragearea,
cuttingunitsanddrivesfreeofgrass,leaves,orexcessive
grease.Cleanupoilorfuelspillage.
•Replacewornordamagedpartsforsafety.
•Ifthefueltankhastobedrained,dothisoutdoors.
•Wheneveryoupark,store,orleavethemachine,lowerthe
cuttingunitsunlessapositivemechanicallockisprovided.
•Disengagethedrives,lowerthecuttingunits,setthe
parkingbrake,shutofftheengine,andremovethekey.
Waitforallmovementtostopbeforeadjusting,cleaning,
orrepairingthemachine.
