RakingSpeed
Practicerakinginalargeandleveltrap.Practice
startingandstopping,turning,raisingandlowering
thebroom,andenteringandleavingthetrap.Practice
operatingatamoderateenginespeedandaslow
groundspeed.Ifyourgroundspeedistooslow,a
ridgemayforminthesandfromthegapbetweenthe
brushes.Ifyourgroundspeedistoofast,thebrushes
maybounceleavinganundesirableappearance.
RakingInformation
Ifthesandisdeepenough,youcanrakeuptothe
edgeofthetrapinlevelareas.Ifthesandfeathers
outtotheturf,stayfarenoughawayfromtheedgeto
avoiddisturbingtheunderlyingsoil.Donotraketoo
closetoashortsteepbank;thiscausesthesandto
owdownintothebottomofthetrap.Sometouch
upwithahandrakemaybenecessaryonsteep
banks,smallpockets,etc.Whenoperatingthebroom
inwet,heavysandandthedesiredappearanceis
notobtained,optionalstifferbristlebrushesmaybe
obtained.Onsteepergrades,whenadditionalground
contactisrequired,anoptionalwingweightkitis
available.
RakingPattern
Therecommendedpatternforrakingatrapisshown
inFigure16.Thispatternavoidsunnecessaryoverlap,
holdscompactiontoaminimumandleavesaneat,
attractivepatternonthesand.Enterthetrapstraight
intothelongdimension,wherethebankistheleast
severe.Drivethroughthecenterofthetrapalmostto
theend,turntoeitherdirectionassharpasyoucan,
andrakebacknexttotherstpass.Spiraloutwardas
showninthedrawing,andleavethetrapataright
angleinalevelarea.Leavesteep,shortbanksand
smallpocketsfortouch-upwithahandrake.

EnteringandLeavingtheTrap
Whenenteringthetrap,donotlowerthebroom
untilthebroomisactuallyoverthesand.Thiswill
avoidcuttingtheturfordragginggrassclippingsor
otherdebrisintothetrap.Lowerthebroomwhile
themachineismoving.Whenleavingthetrap,start
raisingthebroomwhenthefrontwheelleavesthe
trap.Asthemachinemovesout,thebroomwill
beliftingandwillnotdragsandoutontothegrass.
