1.Removeanyattachmentfromtherearofthe
machine.
2.Lowerthetractionunitadapterandback
thetractionunitintopositioninfrontofthe
attachmentadapter.
Note:Makesurethelockingleverispivotedto
theleft(unlockedposition)asviewedfromthe
rearofthemachine.
3.Slidetheattachmentadapterontothetraction
adapter.
Important:Thelongarmoftheliftarm
assemblymustbeunderthetractionunit
rearframeassembly(Figure7).
CAUTION
Youcouldpinchyourngersbetweenthe
attachmentandtractionunitadapters.
Alwaysliftandmovetheattachment
usingthehandleonthebackofthe
attachmentadapter(Figure7).
4.Pivotthelockinglevertotherighttolockthe
adapterstogether.
5.Securethetoplinkofeachchaintotheoutside
oftheliftarm(Figure7)usingabolt(3/8x2-1/2
inches),2washers(3/8x7/8inch),aspacer,
andalocknut(3/8inch).

•Stiffbristledbrooms
Important:Wheninstallingnewbrooms,ensure
thatyouinstallthemwiththeshorterbristles
towardsthefrontoftheattachment.

OperatingTips
Readthissectionbeforerakingatrap.Many
conditionsaffectthewhichadjustmentsare
necessary;thetextureanddepthofthesand,moisture
content,weeds,theamountofcompactioncanall
varyfromcoursetocourseandtraptotrap.Make
theadjustmentsonthebroomforoptimumresultsin
yourparticulararea.
RakingSpeed
Practicerakinginalargeandleveltrap.Practice
startingandstopping,turning,raisingandlowering
thebroom,andenteringandleavingthetrap.Practice
operatingatamoderateenginespeedandaslow
groundspeed.Ifyourgroundspeedistooslow,a
ridgemayforminthesandfromthegapbetweenthe
brushes.Ifyourgroundspeedistoofast,thebrushes
maybounceleavinganundesirableappearance.
RakingInformation
Ifthesandisdeepenough,youcanrakeuptothe
edgeofthetrapinlevelareas.Ifthesandfeathers
outtotheturf,stayfarenoughawayfromtheedgeto
avoiddisturbingtheunderlyingsoil.Donotraketoo
closetoashortsteepbank;thiscausesthesandto
owdownintothebottomofthetrap.Sometouch
upwithahandrakemaybenecessaryonsteep
banks,smallpockets,etc.Whenoperatingthebroom
inwet,heavysandandthedesiredappearanceis
notobtained,optionalstifferbristlebrushesmaybe
obtained.Onsteepergrades,whenadditionalground
contactisrequired,anoptionalwingweightkitis
available.
RakingPattern
Therecommendedpatternforrakingatrapisshown
inFigure16.Thispatternavoidsunnecessaryoverlap,
holdscompactiontoaminimumandleavesaneat,
attractivepatternonthesand.Enterthetrapstraight
intothelongdimension,wherethebankistheleast
severe.Drivethroughthecenterofthetrapalmostto
theend,turntoeitherdirectionassharpasyoucan,
andrakebacknexttotherstpass.Spiraloutwardas
showninthedrawing,andleavethetrapataright
angleinalevelarea.Leavesteep,shortbanksand
smallpocketsfortouch-upwithahandrake.

EnteringandLeavingtheTrap
Whenenteringthetrap,donotlowerthebroom
untilthebroomisactuallyoverthesand.Thiswill
avoidcuttingtheturfordragginggrassclippingsor
otherdebrisintothetrap.Lowerthebroomwhile
themachineismoving.Whenleavingthetrap,start
raisingthebroomwhenthefrontwheelleavesthe
trap.Asthemachinemovesout,thebroomwill
beliftingandwillnotdragsandoutontothegrass.
Practicethistogetthecorrecttiming.

Unit
ServiceInterval:Aftereachuse
Cleanthemachinethoroughlyafteruse.Because
sandisextremelyabrasive,thesandshouldbe
ushedoffaftereachuse.Ifthemachineiscleaned
frequently,(beforethesandhasachancetocake),it
canbecleanedwithastreamofwaterfromahose
withthenozzleremoved.Ahighpressurestream
coulddrivethesandintowearareaswhereitcould
actasagrindingcompound.
Important:Afterusingthebroomdonotallow
ittorestonthebristles.Theweightofthe
attachmentwillpermanentlydistorttheshape
ofthebristlesandruinthebrooms.Alwaystip
thebroomupontotheattachmentadapterafter
detachingtherearbroomfromthetractionunit.
GreasingtheAttachment
Adapter
Ifthelockingleverontheattachmentadapterdoes
notpivotfreelyandeasily,applyalightcoatofgrease
totheareashowninFigure17.
