Safety Precautions
The product and the instruction manual describe important information to prevent possible
harm to users and damage to the property and to use the product safely.
Understand the following description (signs and symbols), read the text and observe
descriptions.
Description of signs

DANGER
This indicates an immediate danger that may result in death or
serious injury if not avoided.
WARNING
This indicates a danger that may result in death or serious injury*1 if
not avoided.
CAUTION
This indicates a danger that may result in minor or moderate
injury*2 or only a physical damage if not avoided.
*1: A serious injury indicates loss of sight, injury, burns (high/low temperature), electric shock,
broken bones, or intoxication that will have aftereffects and require hospitalization or long -term
hospital visits for healing.
*2: An injury indicates an injury, burn, or electric shock that does not need hospitalization or long-term
hospital visits for healing.
*3: A property damage indicates consequential damage in terms of breakage of properties or
materials.

1. Safety Precautions in Installation
WARNING
Ground
Ground the device.
Operation without grounding may cause
an electric shock or fire.
CAUTION
Prohibited
Do not install, store, or use it in the
following environments.
・A place with a lot of dust
・A place with corrosive gases (SO2,
H2S) or flammable gases
・A place with vibrations and impulses
exceeding the tolerance
・A place with condensations due to
abrupt temperature changes
・A place with low or high temperature
outside of the installation condition
・A place with high humidity outside of
the installation condition
・A place exposed to direct sunlight
・A place near equipment generating
strong radio waves or magnetic fields
Otherwise, It may cause accidents.
Instruction
Install the device in a place where
maintenance and inspection can be
done easily.
Otherwise, it may cause accidents.
Prohibited
Do not block the ventilation hole or
air inlet/outlet.
It may cause fire or failure due to
overheat.
Prohibited
Avoid foreign debris like wire scraps
into the modules or units.
It may cause fire, failure, or malfunction.
Instruction
Mount the power supply module,
CPU module, extension interface
module, onto the Vm series base
unit which is Vm series dedicated.
Mount the TC-net I/O module onto
the TC-net I/O dedicated base unit.
Otherwise, it may cause an electric
shock, injury, or failure.
Do not use it independently or for any
other purposes.
Instruction
Turn off the power before installing
and uninstalling the modules, the
base unit and the terminal block.
Otherwise, it may cause an electric
shock, malfunction, or failure.
Instruction
When connecting the connectors
and cables or installing the module
to the base unit, press them fully
until they click, and secure them with
screws tightly.
Insufficient screwing may cause failure
or malfunction due to vibrations.

Mandatory
For installation and wiring of the
system, observe the installation
conditions and methods described in
this document.
Otherwise, it may cause a fall, fire,
failure, or malfunction.
Prohibited
Do not install or store the relay
output module in the following
places:
・Silicon gases are present.
・Silicon products are used.
It may cause contact failure.
No touch
Do not touch the card parts,
contacts, connectors, or soldered
surface in the module.
Ends of the lead wire of the parts may
cause an injury, or electrostatic
breakdown of the ICs or LSIs may occur,
resulting in failure.
2. Safety Precautions on Wiring
WARNING
Instruction
Turn off the power before wiring the
cables.
Otherwise, it may cause an electric shock
or failure.
Instruction
When wiring the modules, use crimp
contacts with sheath, or cover it with
tape.
Otherwise, exposed conductors may
cause an electric shock.
Instruction
After wiring, please install the terminal
block cover securely to the terminal
block.
Exposed conducting parts may cause an
electric shock.
CAUTION
Instruction
Connect an external power
supply that matches the rating.
Otherwise, it may cause an
explosion or fire.
Instruction
Wiring works must be done by
qualified experts.
Improper wiring may cause fire,
electric shock, or failure.
Instruction
Install a fuse that matches the
current capacity to the external
circuit for overload protection of
the relay output module.
Otherwise, a load short-circuit may
cause an accident or damage to the
machine.

Instruction
Construct the emergency stop circuit
and interlock circuit outside the Vm
series.
Otherwise, it may cause human injury or
machine damage if failure or malfunction
occurs in the Vm series.
3. Safety Precautions on Daily Use
WARNING
No touch
Do not touch the terminals of the
module and unit during energization.
It may cause an electric shock.
Prohibited
Do not modify, repair, disassemble, or
adjust the device, module, or board.
It may cause an electric shock, fire, injury,
or failure.
Upon malfunction or failure, contact our
company's branch office or service offices.
Instruction
Before using, check that the power
capacity, frequency, voltage, and
regulation comply with the device
specifications.
If not, it may cause not only insufficient
performance, but also devices damage or
fire due to overheat..
Prohibited
Do not use in case of an abnormal
temperature increase around or inside
the device or a failure on the device.
Using with such a status may cause fire
due to overheat. Turn off the device power
and contact our company's service
representatives.
CAUTION
Instruction
When performing program changes
forced output, RUN/HALT control
operations, etc. during operation, fully
ensure safety.
Incorrect operations or neglecting ensure
safety may cause accident or machine
damage
Instruction
Turn off the power if there is any
smoke or strange odor.
Otherwise, it may cause a fire or electric
shock.
Contact our company’s branch offices or
service representatives.
Prohibited
Do not forcibly bend, pull, or twist the
power cord and cables.
It may cause breaks or heating.

Do not insert or drop any metal into
the gaps of the device main unit.
It may cause fire.
Instruction
In case the contact relay used for
relay output, check the contact
lifespan of the relay before using.
If the contact life of the relay is exceeded,
an output error may occur due to defective
contact, causing accident or machine
damage.
Contact relays have a lifespan due to
contact abrasion. Replace it if it exceeds
the lifespan.
Instruction
Turn off the power after the shutdown
capacitor is charged.
If the power is turned off while the
shutdown capacitor has not been charged,
the memory data and programs will be lost
at the next startup, which may cause an
accident or damage to the machine due to
malfunction.
Instruction
Turn on the power in the following
order:
Turn on the power of the Vm series, then
the I/O module supply external power and
external load power.
If this order is not followed, it may cause
an accident or damage to the machine due
to malfunction.
Instruction
For system safety, turn off the load
power before the Vm series power
supply.
If this order is not followed, it may cause
an accident or damage to the machine.
Share the external power supply for the I/O
module with the load power supply
whenever possible. If this is not possible,
construct the system so that the external
power supply and load power supply are
turned off simultaneously.
4. Safety Precautions in Maintenance and Inspection
WARNING
Instruction
Make sure that the external power
supply is turned off before installing
and uninstalling modules, units,
terminal blocks and wiring cables.
Otherwise, there will be live electric poles
on the back of the external terminal block
of the module, which may cause electric
shock.
Prohibited
Do not connect the battery in reverse,
charge, disassemble, overheat it,
throw it into fire, or short-circuit it.
It may cause explosion or fire.

Instruction
Turn off the device power before
replacing the power fuse or alarm fuse
of the device.
Otherwise, it may cause an electric shock
or a fire.

Replace fuses or batteries with
specified items.
Using anything other than specified may
cause a fire or failure.

Be extremely careful when measuring
the power supply voltage at the power
terminal part of the module during an
inspection.
Otherwise, it may cause an electric shock.
CAUTION
5. Safety Precautions in Disposal
WARNING
Prohibited
Do not throw the lithium battery into
fire.
The battery may explode.
CAUTION
Instruction
Dispose of the lithium battery or Ni-Cd
battery in accordance with local
ordinances or regulations.
Otherwise, it may cause environmental
damage.
Instruction
Dispose of the unit and module of the
Vm series as industrial waste.
Otherwise, it may cause environmental
damage.
Instruction
Replace the power supply module,
power fan module every 8 years.
If the capacitor in power supply unit used
for shutdown is worn out, data and
program might not correctly have saved
in CPU module, which may cause
accident or machine damage due to
malfunction at the next startup.

6. Checking the Warning Label on the Main Body
[Warning symbols on the Vm series main body]
This is warning symbol for dangerous parts. It is attached on places where
there is a risk of electric shock or a risk of damage to the main body due to
incorrect wiring.
Note the following where this symbol is present.

●It is very dangerous to touch the power input terminal of the power supply module
while the power is on which can causes an electric shock.
Do not touch the power input terminal.
●For safety, be sure to turn off the power before wiring or performing maintenance and
inspection. After finish, securely reinstall the terminal cover.
●Wire the power input terminal correctly, and avoid applying any voltage exceeding the
specified voltage range. It may cause failure or damage.
[Safety Label]
The Vm series power supply module comes with the safety
label as shown in the left figure. (except for power supplies
below 24V).
Peel the label off from backing paper, attach it on the Vm
series main unit, or on a clearly visible place nearby.
Use the Japanese or English version of the label as needed.
When wiring, remove the label paper.
If the label is damaged, please contact our customer service
department.

Restrictions on Application
■This product is not developed and manufactured for use in systems involving devices that
directly affect human life (Note 1). Do not use them for such applications.
■If you intend to use this product for systems that involve devices that significantly affect
human safety or maintenance of public functions (Note 2), special considerations (Note
3) are required in system operation, maintenance, and management. In this case, contact
one of our company's sales representatives.
(Note 1) Devices that directly affect human life include the following:
Medical devices such as life-supporting devices and devices for surgical
units.
(Note 2) Systems including devices that significantly affect human safety or
maintenance of public functions include the following:
Main control systems of nuclear power plants, safety protection systems of
nuclear facilities, and other systems that are critical for safety
Operation control systems of mass transportation systems and air traffic
control systems
(Note 3) Special considerations indicate sufficient discussions with our company's
engineers to construct a safe system (e.g. employing fool-proof design, fail-
safe design, or redundant design).
