1. UNPACKING
1.1 Procedure
1) Open the carton.
2) Unpack the accessories from the carton.
3) Unpack the printer.
NOTE: Keep the carton and pad for future transportation of the printer.
1.2 Checks
1) Check for damage or scratches on the machine.
2) Confirm that none of the accessories are missing.

2.1 Removing the Function Unit

2. MAJOR UNIT REPLACEMENT
WARNING!
1. Disconnect the power cord before installing the main parts.
2. Be careful not to injure your fingers when replacing the main parts.
CAUTION!
1. Since a lot of small moulded parts are used in this printer, care must be taken not to damage or lose
them.
2. Be careful not to damage the print head while removing and reassembling.
3. In the United States, used lithium ion batteries should be returned to the store where you bought the
machine. (USA only)
4. LITHIUM ION BATTERY MUST BE DISPOSED OF PROPERLY.
Caution: Do not handle damaged or leaking lithium ion battery.
5. Before handling the main parts, be sure to discharge static electricity in human body through other
metals. Failure to do this may damage the CPU PC board, print head, etc..
NOTES:
1. Before replacing the main parts, print out the maintenance counter values and the parameter values and keep
the printout. (Refer to Section 4.2 Diagnostics Test in the System Mode Manual.)
After replacing, restore the setting according to the printout.
2. Use precision screwdrivers for replacing the precision components which are installed into the printer.
2.1 Removing the Function Unit
1) Turn off the printer.
2) Press down the battery lever to release the battery cover, and then remove Battery Pack from the printer.
3) Remove the 2-rubber covers located on the front side of the printer. Remove the 2 screws after.

4) Push the open button to open the printer.
5) Remove the screws inside the printer.
6) Remove the fanfold cover and remove the two screws after.
7) Lift the Top cover as shown below. The Function Unit can be removed now.

1) Open the Printer Cover.
2) Remove the screw inside the printer and lift the Paper Guide Assembly.
3) Replace the Paper guide Assembly with a new one, then perform reassembly in the reverse order of
removal.

2.3 Replacing the Platen Assembly
1) Continue after Section 2.1 Removing the Function Unit.
2) Loosen or remove the two screws as shown blow.
2) Slowly put down the Lower sensor assembly and lift the Platen Assembly. Careful not to damage the flex.
3) Replace the Platen Assembly with a new one, then perform reassembly in the reverse order of removal

NOTES:
1. After replacing the Platen, refer to the Setting Operation Manual or System Mode Manual and perform
the following operations.
Perform a RAM clear.
2. Perform a test print and make sure printing is even. (Refer to Section 4.6 in the System Mode Manual.)
If the printing is uneven, make sure the platen ass’y is surely fixed with the hooks.

2.4 Replacing the Lower Sensor Assembly
1) Refer to item no. 1 in Section 2.2 Replacing the Platen Assembly.
2) Detached the Lower Sensor PCB from the hooks.
3) Push the metal shaft using a pointed tool like a screw driver to remove it together with the two screws.
4) Detach the plastic roller, slowly pull the FFC cable and lift up the Open Cover.

Note: If you want the Lower Sensor PCB only,
you can detach the connector directly.

5) Remove the black tape on the other side and the bottom side.
6) Slightly pull the Lower Sensor Assembly to detach and access the connector to detach.
7) Replace the Lower Sensor Assembly with a new one, then perform reassembly in the reverse order of removal

NOTES:
1. After replacing the Media Sensor, refer to the Setting Operation Manual or System Mode Manual and
perform the following operations.
1. Perform a RAM clear.
2. Perform the sensor adjustment.
2. After replacing the Media Sensor, perform an operation check for the cover open switch as follows.
When the top cover is fully opened, make sure “Cover Open” is displayed on the LCD.
When either side of the top cover is opened, make sure “Cover Open” is displayed on the LCD.
When the top cover is fully closed, make sure the print operation is performed correctly.
If the cover open switch does not operate correctly, this may result from the wrong connection of the sensor
connector, poor contact of the cable, etc. Make sure the sensor connector is surely connected to CN402 on
the CPU PC board and the cable is not broken.

NOTE:
1. For this type of connector, you must first open the lock in order for the flex to be removed.
2.5 Replacing the Logic Card
1) Refer to item no. 6 in Section 2.4 Replacing the Lower Sensor Assembly
2) Totally pull the Assembly and detach the connectors. Remove the screw also.
3) Detach the Logic card from the plastic hook. Detach the two connectors.

2.6 Replacing the LCD Panel and the Panel Key

NOTE: Proper care should be observed when replacing the LCD Panel and Panel key.
1. Peel-off the LCD cover, and then fold the panel cable as shown in the picture below.
2.6 Replacing the LCD Panel and the Panel Key
1) Refer to item no. 3 in Section 2.5 Replacing the Logic Card
2) Detach the LCD Panel from the frame. In addition, peel off the Panel Key to remove also.
3) After replacing the LCD unit, perform an LCD check in the system mode and make sure none of dots are
missing. Regarding the procedures for the LCD check, refer to Section 7.2.5 in the System Mode Manual.
If the LCD does not display clearly, refer to Section 7.2.5 in the System Mode Manual and perform an LCD
density setting.
When the LCD dots are missing, make sure the LCD cable is surely connected to the CPU PC board. If the
connection of the cable is correct, the dot missing may result from the initial failure of the LCD and replace
the LCD unit with a correct one.

1) Refer to item no. 7 in Section 2.1 Removing the Function Unit.
2) Press the plastic lever to the side and lift the Peel Off Unit Assembly up. Detach the connector.
3) Push up the Peel Off Sensor to detach it from the Peel Off Unit.
4) Replace the Peel Off Unit with a new one, then perform reassembly in the reverse order of removal

1) Refer to item no. 7 in Section 2.1 Removing the Function Unit.
2) Remove the four screws holding the Module Cover.
3) Detach the connector.
4) Replace the WLAN Board Assembly with a new one, then perform reassembly in the reverse order of
removal

1) Refer to item no. 2 in Section 2.8 Removing the WLAN Board Assembly
2) Detach the switch with the harness from where it is located. Take note of the Harness Routing.
3) On the other side, remove the two screws in order to remove the cover holding the other switch.
4) Detach the connector.
5) Replace the Cover Switch Assembly with a new one, then perform reassembly in the reverse order of
removal.

1) Refer to item no. 3 in Section 2.9 Removing the Cover Switch Assembly
2) Remove the plastic cover.
3) Pull the Upper Sensor from the hooks.
4) Turn the printer upside down and remove the black tape holding the cable.
Note: If you want the Upper Sensor PCB only,
you can detach the connector directly. Connector

5) Remove the cable from the connector.
6) Replace the Upper Sensor Assembly with a new one, then perform reassembly in the reverse order of
removal
NOTE:
1. For this type of connector, you must first open the lock in order for the flex to be removed.

1) After removing the Upper Sensor Assembly, remove the gear as shown in the photo.
2) Push the platen on either side to remove it.
3) Totally pull the platen to remove it.

4) Push the Open Button and lift to remove it. Pull up the two springs.
5) Gently pull the connector of the thermal head to remove the assembly.

NOTE:
1. For this type of connector, you must first push the side locks downward to unlock in order for the flex to
be removed.
2.12 Replacing the Driver card
1) Continue from Section 2.11 Removing the Thermal Head Assembly.
2) Remove the White FFC Cable from the Driver Card. To do this, get a tweezer or a similar tool to unlock the
connector from both sides.
3) Remove the two screws holding the Driver card and detach the two connectors one by one.
4) Replace the Driver Card with a new one, then perform reassembly in the reverse order of removal.
