This symbol is used to call attention to instructions concerning personal safety.
Read the messages that follow this symbol and be alert to the possibility of
personal injury or death resulting from misuse. Your safety and the safety of
others is involved.
SIGNAL WORDS DEFINITIONS
A signal word - DANGER, WARNING, or CAUTION - is generally used with the safety alert symbol.
Indicates a high probability that death, severe bodily injury, and/or major
property damage could result.
Is serious but less inevitable. There is some probability that death, severe
bodily injury, and/or property damage could result.
Is less serious but still demands attention. Indicates a hazard which may
result in minor or moderate injury and/or property damage. May also be
used to alert against unsafe practices.

SAFETY Section 2
General Safety
• Do not use your hand to check for leaks. Use a piece of cardboard or wood to search for leaks.
Escaping diesel and hydraulic fluid under pressure can have sufficient force to penetrate the skin and
cause serious injury. If fluid is injected into the skin it must be surgically removed within a few hours by
a doctor familiar with this form of injury or gangrene may result.
• Use caution when servicing the cooling system. Release of fluids from a pressurized cooling system
can cause serious burns. Only remove filler cap with engine off and when cool enough to touch with
bare hands. Slowly loosen cap to relieve pressure before removing entirely.
• Caution must be used when re-inflating or bringing a low tire up to recommended pressure. Check
air pressure with gauge before connecting an air hose to a partially inflated tire. Overinflation could
result in a violent explosion.
If servicing or replacing a battery, the following precautions must be taken.
• Always remove the grounded battery clamp first and replace it last.
• Lead acid batteries contain sulphuric acid which can cause severe burns and/or blindness. Always
handle with care.
• A lead acid battery under charge gives off the flammable gas hydrogen. Keep away from flame or
source of ignition and always observe the no smoking rule.
• When charging, always switch off the battery charger before connecting or disconnecting any bat-
tery. Always ensure adequate ventilation around the battery.
• When mixing electrolyte: Protective clothing must be worn. Care should always be taken that elec-
trolyte does not come into contact with the body, particularly the eyes. Personal protective equipment
must be worn. When mixing electrolyte, acid must always be added to water, never water to acid.
• FIRST AID: Immediately flood the affected area with water under low pressure for at least 15 min-
utes. With potential eye injury even seconds can make the difference in minimising serious injury.
Seek medical attention immediately.

Section 3 OPERATION
Pre-Operation
The operator is responsible for the following:
• Check the engine as described in the engine manual.
• Check that all decals, guards, and shields are in good condition and correctly and securely in place.
• Check that all controls are undamaged, clean, and ready for use.
• Make a thorough visual check that all hardware, fittings, nuts, bolts, clamps, hoses, and all types of connec-
tions are secured correctly.
• Check tire pressure (refer to page 4-2) and check for tire damage. Never exceed the maximum pressure
indicated on the tire.
CAUTION MUST BE USED WHEN RE-INFLATING OR BRINGING A LOW TIRE
UP TO RECOMMENDED PRESSURE. CHECK AIR PRESSURE WITH GAUGE
BEFORE CONNECTING AN AIR HOSE TO A PARTIALLY INFLATED TIRE.
OVERINFLATION COULD RESULT IN A VIOLENT EXPLOSION.
• Check hydraulic lines, hoses, and connections for leaks.
IF A LEAK IS SUSPECTED, USE A PIECE OF CARDBOARD OR WOOD, NOT
YOUR HANDS, TO CHECK FOR LEAKS. ESCAPING DIESEL AND HYDRAU-
LIC FLUID UNDER PRESSURE CAN HAVE SUFFICIENT FORCE TO PEN-
ETRATE SKIN AND CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY. IF FOREIGN FLUID IS IN-
JECTED INTO THE SKIN IT MUST BE SURGICALLY REMOVED WITHIN A FEW
HOURS BY A DOCTOR FAMILIAR WITH THIS FORM OF INJURY OR GAN-
GRENE MAY RESULT.

Section 3 OPERATION
Loading onto a Trailer
If traction is lost from a drive tire while loading the QuadLift onto a trailer, traction can be regained by temporarily
removing air from the air suspension (see Suregrip Hand Control Functions).
TO AVOID UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO MACHINE,
AUTO LEVEL MUST BE ENABLED DURING GENERAL OPERATION.
THIS HARVESTER IS NOT DESIGNED OR INTENDED FOR USE ON PUBLIC
ROADS. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OWNER AND/OR USER OF THE
HARVESTER TO ENSURE THAT IT IS LEGAL TO USE THE HARVESTER ON
PUBLIC ROADS IN THE COUNTRY, STATE OR JURISDICTION IN WHICH THE
HARVESTER IS TO BE USED.
Operating Procedure
Start engine. Note: Engine will not start if park brake is not engaged.
Raise all four sets of forks high enough to avoid any raised or uneven surfaces.
Remove parking brake and put machine in motion by slowly moving joystick to front or rear. The machine must
come to a complete stop before changing direction. Operate at low speeds until completely familiar with opera-
tion of the QuadLift under all conditions. Always slow ground speed before shifting down to “crawl” gear.
If loading a pallet or roll, keep forks raised until near the load, stop forward motion, lower forks nearly to the
ground, then slowly move forward until forks are completely inserted into or beneath load. Every attempt should
be made not to drag forks across the ground. Doing so places unnecessary pressure on the fork rollers and
can lead to equipment failure. Next, raise forks with load high enough to avoid any raised or uneven surfaces,
then proceed to next pallet or roll.
TO AVOID DAMAGE TO HYDRAULIC COMPONENTS, THE MACHINE MUST
BE BROUGHT TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE CHANGING DIRECTION.
DO NOT RAISE OR LOWER THE FORKS WHILE THE MACHINE IS MOVING.
DOING SO NOT ONLY CAUSES A DISTRACTION (UNSAFE DRIVING CONDI-
TION), IT COULD ALSO LEAD TO THE FORKS BEING LOWERED INTO THE
GROUND WHILE MOVING.
BEFORE LEAVING THE OPERATOR’S SEAT, PLACE THE MACHINE IN
NEUTRAL ON A LEVEL SURFACE, STOP THE ENGINE, AND APPLY THE
PARKING BRAKE.
