2. Removethebatterycover.
3. Insert3AAAALKALINEbatteriesaccording
tothepolaritysymbolsinsidethebattery
compartment.
4. Replacethebatterycover.

Getting Started
Belt Clip
To attach the belt clip:
Slidethebeltclipuntilitsnapsintoplace.
To remove the belt clip:
Toremovethebeltclip.Pinchand
holdbeltclipandlatch(seearrows
indicated)andslidethebeltclipin
thedirectionshown.
Low Battery Alert
IftheBatterylevelbecomeslow,the
batteryindicatoriconwillappearon
theLCDandbeginashing.
TheunitwillgointoaBatteryLowMode.
TheTransmitModeisdisabled.Replace
thebatteriesimmediatelytocontinue
usingtheradio.

Thechannelnumberwillappearonthedisplay.
Pressandhold toturntheRadioOFF.
Volume
Pressvolume or toincreaseordecrease
thevolumelevel.TheChannelindicatorwillash
whenthevolumeisbeingadjusted.
Adjusting the Key Beeps
Yourradioemitsabeepeachtimeoneofthekeys(exceptfor
thePTTbutton)ispressed.
To turn OFF the beep:Pressandholdthe KeywhileturningONtheRadio.
To turn ON the beep:TurntheradioOFFandthenONagain.

channelusage.(Channels22and23arefortelemetryandtelecommand
applications.Transmitisinhibitedonthesechannels).
1. Thetransmitpowerofthe
UH405SX-2NBis500mWwhichwill
providearangeofupto3+Km.
2. Beforeyoutransmit,listenfor
activityontheselectedchannel.
3. Whenthechannelisclear,pressandholdthe
totransmit.TXappearsontheLCD.
Holdtheradiowithmicrophoneapproximately5cmin
frontofyourmouthwiththeantennaatapproximately45°
angleawayfromyourhead.Speakinaclear,normal
conversationalvoice.
4. Whenyouhavenishedspeaking,
releasethe .TXthendisappearson
theLCD.Listenforaresponse.

mutestheaudiointhepresenceofweaktransmissionsandunwantednoise.
Monitor
Thisfeatureenablesuserstolisteninforweaksignals
onthecurrentchannelatthepressofabutton.
To use monitor
• PressandholdVolumeorfor2seconds.WhenMonitorisonyou
willhearnoiseifthereisnosignal.
• Forcontinuouslistening,thereceivercircuitwillstayopen,lettinginboth
thenoiseandweaksignals.
• ToreturntonormalreceivemodepressandholdVolumeorfor2
secondsorpress keyonce.

Operation
To Operate in Duplex Mode (Repeaters)
TheDuplexfunctionenablesyoutoaccesslocalrepeaterstations.Youcan
onlyactivateDuplexfromCH01-CH08andCH41-CH48.UHFCBRepeaters
areusedtoretransmitorrelayyoursignal.Repeaterswillextendtherangeof
yourradioandovercometheshieldingeffectcausedbysolidobstructions.

Operation With the Aid of a Repeater
Eg.CH1isbeingusedinyourareaforrepeateruse.
Press momentarily. appearsforCH01-CH08and
appearsforCH41-CH48whenduplexisselected.
Press againtodeactivatetheduplexoperation.
UH405SX-2NBwillreturntonormaloperation.
Power Save
YourUH405SX-2NBhasauniquecircuitdesignedtodramaticallyextendthe
lifeofthebatteries.Ifthereisnotransmissionnoranincomingcallwithin3
seconds,yourRadioswitchestothePowerSavemode.TheRadioisstill
abletoreceivetransmissionsinthismode.

Operation
Key Lock
Pressandhold / tolockorunlockthekeypad. and keys
remainfunctionalwhenkeylockison.Whenkeylocksettingisturnedon,
appearsmomentarilyandwillappearwhenaninactivekeyispressed.
Scanning
Thescanfunctionscansallchannelsandstopsatanactivechannel.When
thesignalstops,theUH405SX-2NBwaits2seconds(Drop-OutDelay)before
scanningresumes.

1. AssumingtheunitisonCH1whenswitchedon.
2. PressandholdChannelor
for3secondsandscanningstarts
3. Press or tocancelscanning.
Drop Out Delay
Whilescanning,theUH405SX-2NBstopsatabusychannelandreceivesa
transmission.Whenthereceivedsignalisover,theunitwillwaitfor2seconds
forthereturnofthesignal,otherwise,theradioresumesscanning.

IfChannelorispressed
whiletheunitispausedon
achannel,scanningwillbe
resumed.

Band.TheACMAwillchangethemajorityofthecurrentwideband40
channelusetonarrowbandchanneluse.Thisallowsforadditional
channelstobeadded,upto80Channels.
Thissimplymeansthatthenewnarrowbandradioyouhavepurchased
willhavemorechannelsthanolderradios.Pleaserefertotheguidelines
aboveandthechannelchartforfurtherchannelinformation.
Alistofcurrentlyauthorisedchannelscanalsobeobtainedfromthe
ACMAwebsiteinAustraliaandtheMEDwebsiteinNewZealand.
Interference / Poor Audio
Whenanewnarrowbandradioreceivesasignalfromanolder
widebandradiothespeechmaysoundloud.
NarrowbandradiosoperatingonCH41-CH80mayencounter
interferencefromanearbywidebandradiostransmittingonhigh
poweronanadjacentchannel(frequency).
Whenanolderwidebandradioreceivesasignalfromanew
narrowbandradiothespeechmaysoundquiet-thewidebandradio
usersimplyadjuststheirradiovolumeforbestperformance.
Theabovesituationsarenotafaultoftheradiobutasymptomofmixed
widebandandnarrowbandradiosincurrentuse.Itisexpectedthatas
olderwidebandradiosarephasedoutthisissuewillbeeliminated.
