Congratulations!
Thank you for purchasing the MX-490 remote control. This unit can irectly control
every IR evice in your home. You can also control evices locate in ifferent rooms
by integrating an MRF base station. Controlling your home is simple with the
MX-490 remote.
Brilliant LCD color display with hard button interface
The color LCD (Liqui Crystal Display) screen, as well as the remote buttons, light up.
Once the screen is lit, each of the three buttons on either si e of the screen are labele .
These button labels are base on the evices you want to watch or listen to.
User interface customization for any activity
Each Main Menu button can be customize for activities, such as watching TV or
listening to the ra io. These activities can contain multiple comman s (macros) which
enable a single button press to turn the nee e evices ON or OFF.
Ultra-reliable narrow band RF - compatible with URC 418 MHz RF Base tations
The MX-490 can communicate irectly to RF base stations. This gives the
MX-490 the ability to control your system without being in irect line-of-sight.
Fast setup of complex systems via Complete Control PC editor

control in a timely an efcient manner.
Replacing the Batteries
Remove the cover by lightly pressing own on the grooves along the top an sli ing the
cover away from the remote. Observe the + an – polarity in icators insi e the battery
compartment an the batteries. Place the four AA batteries into their positions in the
battery compartment. Now, replace the battery cover an sli e it into place.

Using the MX-490
The MX-490 isplays the title (Main or
name of the evice being use ) at the top of
the screen. Below the title, the LCD isplays
the evice’s comman names. All of the
har buttons of the MX-490 are change to
control the functions of the selecte evice.
The Number keypad enters numbers for the evices you’ve
selecte . When watching Cable TV, use the number keypa to
enter channel numbers. When listening to a CD, the number
keypa enters track numbers.
The 4-way cursor buttons enable you to navigate
on screen gui es an menus with ease.

The Transport buttons
(Play, top, kip-,
kip+, Rec, Fwd,

Accessing the etup Menu
You can a just settings for the MX-490 whenever you like by pressing an hol ing the
Main button for three (3) secon s. When you o, the screen changes to the Tip screen.
Press the Main button to leave the Tip screen an reach the Setup Menu. To exist the
Setup Menu, press the LCD button under Exit.
If Tips are disabled uring initial setup, hol ing the Main button for three (3) secon s
will take the user directly to the Setup Menu.
If no button is pressed for thirty (30) secon s, the MX-490 returns to the Main Menu.

Basic etup
The Basic etup section allows for basic programming of the MX-490. This inclu es
adding devices from the built-in atabase, learning IR from other remotes, removing
devices from the remote UI, an the ability to review the code sets use by a evice.

earch the Database
To a a new device to the remote, perform the following:
1. Highlight earch the Database an select Next.
2. Select a location on the UI for the new evice. Use the Page+ option to
a another six evice locations to the menu.
3. Select the type of device to be a e an select Next.ATV is use in
this example.
4. If esire , use the left an right navigation buttons to select a new icon
an select Next.1

5. Enter a label for the new evice using the number pa an select Next.
6. Before continuing the setup process, manually turn on the evice. Highlight
the brand of the evice. Point the MX-490 at the evice an select Next.
7. If the evice turne off, select Test to continue. If the evice is still on, press
the Down navigation button to select the next co e set. Repeat this step until
the evice turns off an then select Test.

8. Conrm the co e set works for the evice. For a TV, test the Power,
Volume,Channel, an other buttons to test them. Select Pass if the
buttons are functioning properly.

Learn
The MX-490 is capable of learning IR comman s from another remote. The IR
win ow on the MX-490 is narrower than most of URC’s remotes. Ensure the
MX-490 an the other remote are on a level surface with the IR win ows
closely facing each other.

Delete a Device
To remove a evice from the remote, perform the following:
1. Highlight Delete a Device an select Next.
2. Select the device to be elete . Use Page+ to move between pages.
3. Highlight Yes an select Next.
4. The evice list is isplaye to conrm the removal of the evice. Repeat this
process for each device to be remove . Select Back to return to the menu. 1

The MX-490 is capable of copying and pasting several groups of comman s across
evices. When pasting, there are a few options available to the programmer to make
customization easier.
• Volume Group: Inclu es Vol+,Vol-, an Mute comman s.
• Channel Group: Inclu es Ch+,Ch-, an Prev Ch comman s.
• Play Group: Inclu es Play,Pause,top,Rew,Fwd,kip+,
kip-, an Rec comman s.
• Menu Group: Inclu es Menu,Info,Guide,Navigation,
elect, an Exit comman s.
• Power On Only: Inclu es only the Power On comman .
• Power Off Only: Inclu es only the Power Off comman .
The Volume Group is use for all examples in this section.
